    Question No Floorwork?

I have been dancing for almost 6 years and never have I been so lost in my stage performance. I just went to a new club which I really like and the GM has a new rule of no floor work, what-so-ever on stage. I rely on my floor/pole work on main stage. However, there is not even a pole at this club. Any ideas on what I can do on main stage other than sway my hips?

I don't know what I'd do either. There's a club here that has the same rule, & I won't work there because of it. Maybe you could sway your hips , strut & pose?

Yeah, that means you'll have to get pretty creative. I'd suggest slowing down your movements even further, undressing more slowly, with a lot of posing and touching your body. I'd also watch the other girls for ideas.

I've become relatively prissy over the years & prefer clubs that don't allow floorwork. I find that they tend to attract a better clientele too. Back in the days when burlesque was in full swing floorwork was still new, & very much looked down on because everyone knew that it was leading to major changes in the industry that weren't for the better.

You do need to slow down a lot at there clubs. You'll become a lot more dependent on small flirtatious moves & looks to get by in these clubs. First, start getting outfits that take longer to get out of & consider layering your outfits. Second, slow down the moves & do lots of poses. Practice footwork & arm movements. Look into burlesque & practice hip bumps & grinds.

I'd also really recommend watching movies of well known starlets from the 40's & 50's to see all the small movements they used on screen as symbols that they were flirting. Marilyn Monoe did an unbeliveable job of innocent & subtle flirting on screen. Jane Mansfield & Rita Hayworth were also great examples.

Also watch any movies involving showgirls for great moves.

Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

Btw, you might want to consider belly dance classes too. A lot of men LOVE belly dancing & its almost all done standing up.

I already dance fairly slow and seductive. I'm afraid if I move any slower, I won't be moving at all. I will definatly check out the flicks you mentioned Kylea, thank you! And as for the belly dancing, a friend of mine took classes for a year and used the moves at her club. I don't know why I never thought about that.

Do you get tipped on stage much, or is it just for show?

A lot of clubs in NY are like this. I was lost too. Then I watched the other girls and realized they don't do anything either, they just pose. I just got used to being bored on stage.

The first club I worked at had those rules in addition we would get fined if we touched the mirrors . But I have an idea for you what if you wrote sexy messages on the mirror with a foam window cleaner and make cleaning the mirror part of your show maybe in a cute french maid outfit. Also a fire show would be good. Think cute gimmicks you can do standing up skits like sexy teacher etc. Francinista

lilblondie: A good portion of my earnings do come from stage time. We have six stages around the club that we work on average of two to three times a night.

francinista: I love the idea of the french maid cleaning the mirrors; it's very cute.

I was actually thinking of something along the lines of putting whipped cream on my chest, stomach and legs and wiping it up with strawberries then selling them for a dollar or two to the guys that come to main stage. What do you ladies think?

Yep, time to take it back to the old school - youtube some burlesque routines or if youwant to be more modern and upbeat take some dance classes, watch routines by Pussycat Dolls etc

A word of warning about the cream - the smell of sour milk will stay with you so unless have showers and want to take time out after your set to go shower i wouldn't. You could maybe store a stash of cherries down your cleavage and sell those though (no mess, no smell).

Also, some clubs may have rules against bringing creams/ foams on stage because they pose a safety risk. It's the same reason many clubs have a no-body oil/ -lotions rule. Slick stage= potential injury.

Also, speaking from personal experience, even after wiping up after whip cream with wet wipes you'll still feel sticky. You really will want a shower if you plan to involve stuff like whip cream all night long.
