When I was new I went out with 1 customer... worst mistake EVER. Don't do this. He proposed to me years later (5yrs after an off/on relationship) & when I ran his background check he had battery charges from his ex-wife & ex-girlfriends. He was also one of the biggest coke dealers in the city. He used to take me into different clubs just to say "hi" to people, managers, owners etc. I was too naive to know what he was doing back then. We'd literally go in, he'd shake their hands, they'd chat for seconds & then we'd leave. He was TOTALLY dealing drugs in front of me & I had no clue. He was older than I, ALWAYS dressed in really nice suites, & spoke perfectly. You just can't trust people... especially in clubs. Always run background checks on people though - that is probably the best possible preventive step but still doesn't mean that the person is 100% trust worthy.

For him I used the local city/state court search.

You'll need to know where the person has lived but generally to run such types of background checks locally will be between $5-$25 per search in each city.

Just think about it this way i guess...No amount of money is worth the possibility of ending up in a dumpster. Please be careful

In terms of my personal boundaries, dinners are fine with me as long as I have a ride or a cab, and I'm getting paid . I've never met with a guy outside the club in any other way, but I would treat it like a private party--bring a bodyguard, do a background check as Kylea said, etc.

I started dancing before the internet was big and I didn't have the background checks available like now. Because of this I was super nervous, especially since a dancer I worked with did end up dead by a customer. Most of the situations were as such where the guy wanted to book me for a social event and I met him there. In the situations where a guy wanted me to come to his house (whether private dance or bachelor party) I brought a bouncer. As it turns out I never needed a bouncer at any of these parties and I was lucky. In fact the one time where I had problems at a party was the one time I asked a friend to come with instead of a bouncer. Only once have I ever met a customer privately without anyone else around and this was a situation where I knew him several months in the club. This is the guy I often talk about. He's never tried anything with me except when I've allowed him to.

I will say though I am a big fan of background checks. In the event I was to ever do one on one events (wouldn't) I would do a background check. If I ever did online dating again I would definitely run a background check. I'm glad there are ways to do checks now because the dancer I worked with might be alive today.

^^^ Check with the local city clerk or sheriff's office because sometimes security guards have to be licensed... so you need to find out what is required by your city.

If they do need to be licensed then look into personal security agencies. Otherwise ask a bouncer from a local club.

I usually hired bouncers from clubs I worked at (bouncers I had good relationships with and trusted) or references. A few times I actually placed an ad and got a few great bouncers from that (very lucky).
