Question What do you think about UFO's

So what is your opinion of UFO's? Do you believe in them? What do you think they are up to? My theory is that they are from our future and that's why they want to hang around here. There have been a lot of reports of them staying underwater. Here is a link to an interesting story about them disabling nuclear missiles:

i don't know a lot about UFO's but i saw that video on CNN as well and it really sparked my interest. I'm not sure if I believe in them or not but if they didn't exist then why would the government try to hide up or keep the sightings so secret? If it wasn't anything special they wouldn't have tried to hide it so much. It's interesting

This universe is too big for there not to be anything out there. How egotistical of us humans to believe we are the only beings in this whole universe...lol

I totally agree, but remember, that's not the same as saying they have actually come to visit us. The two are totally different issues in truth.

It's statistically unlikely almost to the point of impossibility that there is no other "intelligent life" in the universe. Do I think they exist? Absolutely. Do I think that they've visited and anally probed southerners? No.

Growing up in NM I was drug to Roswell every year for the goddamn alien convention. I have never seen one and if I do I'll put a stiletto up its skinny non existent ass for crashing their stupid ship in NM and making my childhood summers a mass of meaningless lectures. We went every year till I turned 17.

I think UFO's are objects that are in the sky or appear to be in the sky that the observers were not able to identify.

I once saw one. My dad was with me and he saw it too. It was just an intermittent light that moved across the sky much faster than any plane could and that did not look like a satellite.

We couldn't figure out what it was. But it looked like an object that was flying.

i have even read the books about the twelfth planet. my mom believes i could be a star child. i dunno.

just know that i saw one.

People always say that, and it makes a lot of sense because the universe is so damn big. The thing is what are the odds that this other life is out there at the same time as us? we are just a tiny blip in time, the universe is billions of years old. Even if there was other life out there whos to say they didn't disappear hundreds of millions of years ago, that's a whole lot more likely than them existing in the 100 years or so we've been paying attention.

indeed, the 'a whole lot more likely' principle points to a UFO explanation that has its roots right here on earth as opposed to some mysterious planet hundreds of light years distant !

Most people are too busy watching American Idol to realize how important this news is. Amazing!!!!

A new member in a family of planets circling a red dwarf star 20 light-years away has just been found. It's called Gliese 581g, and the 'g' may very well stand for Goldilocks.

Gliese 581g is the first world discovered beyond Earth that's the right size and location for life.

"Personally, given the ubiquity and propensity of life to flourish wherever it can, I would say that the chances for life on this planet are 100 percent. I have almost no doubt about it," Steven Vogt, professor of astronomy and astrophysics at University of California Santa Cruz, told Discovery News.

The Nazi connection is always interesting, but not convincing for me as the source of UFOs.

Been following this for a little while. Apparently we intercepted a laser-like transmission from or around the planet in 2008.

    http://www.vbs.tv/en-ca/blog/ragbir-...e-alien-hunter

    Excerpt:

"Just about a year ago Ragbir Bhathal was scanning the night sky for alien activity, just as he does every night. Except on this December eve Ragbir Bhathal found a strong, regular, repeating signal. Unless the whole thing stemmed from a huge glitch occurring simultaneously in all his million-dollar lab equipment, there stands a strong chance that Ragbir found a message sent by some intelligent, alien race.

Unlike most of the tin-foil hat wearing whackadoos in his field, Dr. Bhathal is a hard scientist working with university money to find extraterrestrials...

Can you tell us the details surrounding your December findings?

Oh OK, whenever there’s a clear night, I go up to the observatory and do a run on some of the celestial objects. Looking at one of these objects, we found this signal. And you know, I got really excited with it. So next I had to analyze it. We have special software to analyse these signals, because when you look at celestial objects through the equipment we have, you also pick up a lot of noise.

    Because they’re very powerful?

Yeah, that’s right. So the signal is inside the noise. What you have to do is use another program to extract that signal out of that noise. Well, after we did that, we found this very sharp signal, sort of a laser lookalike thing which is the sort of thing we’re looking for—a very sharp spike. And that is what we found. So that was the excitement about the whole thing.

    Great! So you discovered E.T.I.

Well, the problem is with physics, to make a claim that you found something you have to then reproduce it again and again. That was the problem that stumped us. We went back to the same position and we still haven’t found it. So what I did then was get all my data and I gave it to another chap who does what we call signal processing. You know, give it to someone else to take a fresh look at the whole thing and tell me whether there is a signal there or not. So he did that, and he came back and said that there is a signal there. It’s confirmed, there is a signal there. But the problem is, what is that signal, you see? And that is the problem we have now. We need to search some more space."

The Nuclear age is 65 years old at best. No matter how close the planet, no matter how fast the space ship, nothing could see Hiroshima and be here in 65 years.

As for 'UFO' sittings at missal silos and their disabling capabilities, this I can see. Except, they aren't alien in origin, but rather DoD aircraft experimenting in nuclear missal disabling possibilities. Of course no one, including the fire control silo operators and officers, would ever know the truth - the ability to neutralize Soviet silos isn't something you want leaked.

To my thinking, IF UFOs were alien in origin, it would only be because the earth was populated by the visitors, and they are checking up on their 'family', or, even more absurd, they are here by accident from alternate dimensions (think string physics and the 11 or so dimensions...).

Humans just haven't existed long enough for intentional visitations from the light year distances ET would have to travel - at least by current understanding of physics. The fact earth is inhabited just hasn't had time to reach far out into the universe, even at light speed.

there you go ! In fact, there is a whole lot of officially documented but sparsely publicized information as to how the DOD came into possession of such technology ...

Heres' a highly boring official account of Operation HighJump ... which shows the hardware and manpower but never discusses the true purpose of the expedition

and here's most of the actual back-story on one page ( translated from Russian ) ...

of course both Admirals Byrd and Forrestal wound up being quickly 'silenced' after they began to 'leak' classified aspects of this mission !

That's a very human-centric prospective. Most believers in UFOs feel they have been here long long time.

    Also a possibility.

The universe is made up mostly of matter we know little about (dark matter), using an energy source we know nothing about (dark energy), and we currently know very little about "simple" forces such as gravity, and we are just starting to look at things on the quantum level, etc, etc.

There are various ways of possible travel that's faster then light, that do not break any of the known laws of physics that are theoretical of course, but possible in terms of their not breaking the laws of physics as we currently understand them.

If that's where we are now, what about a civilization that's say a million years older? 10 million? Arthur C Clarks three "laws" of prediction:
    1. When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is probably wrong.
    2. The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.
    3. Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

None of the above is any proof what so ever that we have ever been visited by aliens, but, it's typical human-centric thinking to decide at this time what's possible for the rest of the universe.

I agree that based on our current level of knowledge, it's difficult to understand how "they" would pull it off, but I also don't have much confidence that we have developed tech that defies physics as we understand it, which the UFOs do regularly. Of course one ongoing theory is most of them are ours, but based on tech gotten from crashed UFOs, which sort of blends the two ideas together, and is also a possibility.

Or, it's just Venus reflecting off swamp gas....

If they crash in Arizona will they be summarily deported? That's probably why we haven't seen any lately.. They all got deported or are languishing in an INS detention center while they try to find an interpreter.
