I had to crack up at the comment that low income people will buy pot instead of food, though. What a dumbass. Pot=munchies means more food! Fucking bureaucrats!

If this passes and a few years go by and people see California hasn't gone up in flames or gotten overrun with crack dealers you will see a few more states follow suit. Kinda like whats happening with gay marriage, as soon as other states saw it didn't lead to teenagers sodomizing goats they slowly started to follow.

I hope it passes, but probably won't. As liberal overall as our larger urban areas are, Cali still has large pockets of conservatives that will effectively kill Prop 19 (even OC!). They were a large reason why Prop H8 narrowly passed 2 years ago.
At least Arny just signed a bill downgrading pot possession to an infraction. I suspect that they're throwing us a bone.....but we'll take it!![]()

Actually I can visualize the major drug cartels mobilizing their billions to prevent this. If it is legalized then profits go down.
Their are huge segments of the population that NEED drugs to be illegal. Whether it is DEA agents, or the thousands of suppliers that produce billions of dollars in equipment to counter illegal drugs, to major corporations that provide services to convicted drug felons, to major private firms that run privatized prisons.
Drugs are a multi billion dollar business for those that make to distribute and those that try to prevent importation.
No way either side will stand for legalization.

The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

^^^ speaking of which, there are some extremely 'telling' developments in regard to Prop 19 and various California city proposals along similar lines ...
- The teamsters have already organized the hundreds of 'legal' medicinal pot growing company workers, getting them a pay increase from $18 to $25 an hour ( which will be fully documented, fully taxed, and of course generate union dues )
- One large California city has taken the approach of requiring very expensive annual licensing for 'legal' pot producers who intend to sell pot in that city ... on the order of $300,000 per year per producer. Between the high license fee and a local 'health dep't' inspection requirement this is expected to cut small independent pot growers out of the 'market' in favor of four very large 'corporate' pot growers ( which will be fully documented, fully taxed, and fully unionized )
California politicians and union leaders both see the legalized production and sale of pot as a huge 'money maker'. Obviously, some of this money will come at the expense of 'importers' ! However, a big chunk of this money will also come at the expense of small independent domestic pot growers ... who will essentially be legislated out of the 'legalized' pot business.
It then remains to be seen what action California LE will take in regard to cutting off untaxed and 'uninspected' pot sources ( both domestic and imported ) in favor of taxed and 'inspected' pot from the legal corporate growers. If previous history with alcohol is any example, LE will be very aggressive in shutting down unlicensed / untaxed supplies that will be competing with licensed / fully taxed supplies.

Sooo glad it didn't pass![]()

I was hoping this would pass...
Partly because I support legalization and partly for the turmoil it would cause Obama.
Oh well..

it would have been nice to see the murderous drug cartels undercut, but without across the board drug legalisation, they'd likely have moved on to a harder drug anyway.
