Yay! At least someone found it interersting.
I guess only us Northerns get it, eh HB?

Cool presentation of some interesting facts about motivation that hadn't occurred to me.
How did you come across this 4ever?

Interesting.![]()
That was an amazing video. And actually none of it seemed really counter-intuitive to me at all, it totally made sense.

i kept getting distracted by the awesome animation so i turned the laptop over and listened. i havent finished it yet though. we need to come across more stuff like this. it helps me be conscious about my earnings

I am getting ready to go out, and was not ready to watch the whole thing when I saw how long it was, but two things grabbed me. His style of drawing while lecturing, which was very good. And he mentioned the three schools' experts finding that the draw of monetary reward was not effective when cognitive skills were required, one of those schools being my alma mater.
So I had to watch the whole thing! The party can wait a bit longer.
He is very, very good at writing in level lines, and drawing very straight lines freehand. That is tough to do (I was a graphic designer and illustrator for many years before DJing). I used to draw pictures while lecturing, a bit, when I taught perspective drawing and graphics at the Daytona Community College. It is very difficult to keep a coherent, tight verbal argument/course of instruction going, while drawing pictures at the same time! The impulse is to stop talking and get the picture down correctly. But then you lose your audience. This guy has it down to an Art--literally!
Of course as I watched it a little more, I realized he wasn't always talking while drawing, they sped up the drawing process quite a bit so it could not have been done simultaneously the entire time, and the verbal lecture was on a different time track. But still--you can tell that's what he does.
I liked what he was saying, too. I am making so much more money than I was designing shopping centers and office buildings, etc., but I am not as much happier as I ought to be about it.

Thank you for the vey interesting video 4eversolutions.
If you like animated lectures I think you would enjoy "The Story of Stuff."
It is a bit longer than the motivation one, but a very informative video critique on consumer culture. I actually think everyone in the western world should view it.

Awesome link! It totally makes sense. When stripping is my only job I often get depressed. The craving for hustle mastery and money are satisfying, but the lack of purpose is just demoralizing. I always try to have something else going on. If you like this casual/fun/story based science format you might want to check out www.radiolab.org They have really interesting similar shows.

Great video/lecture! So true!
