    Default I Want a Tattoo

...I just don't know what to get. I have wanted something small on the back of my neck for a while. I really like infinity-related things and I love medieval art so I was thinking of a medieval-looking ouroboros but shaped like this:

Here's a medieval-looking ouroboros in general: I'm not so crazy about this idea anymore.

I like ancient Egyptian stuff(who doesn't!) and all of my mother's tattoos are ancient Egyptian-themed; Ma'at, Isis, a cartouche, lotuses...I think she's getting a seated Anubis soon. So for a while I was sure I wanted the god Heh on the back of my neck, he's a cool-looking little guy who represents my favorite, infinity. I'd want him in this pose and small, way less detailed and in solid black. But now I don't know if it'll look right!!

Now I'm thinking of just getting a simple inverted cross.

I love heraldic lions too but like my ouroboros plan, I'm not sure that it would come out pretty. At least the cross is simple.

Decisions decisions! Now that beach season is over it's time to get my tat though!

I wouldn't get the snake design on the back of the neck. The back of the neck has a lot of movement and geometry, and it is hard to impose a circular structure on the spot without it looking awkward. That little egyptian guy is pretty cool though! You would just have to kill a lot of the detail to make it work in such a tight spot, and you would definitely need to find an artist who truly understands how to do good fineline work to ensure that it would age well.

The symbol is older than the Medieval period.

That's the hardest part of the whole procedure. I can give you a couple of recommendations, otherwise start researching shops and check out portfolios and websites! It will pay off in the end.

I always thought Seshat was a cool goddess too but I don't think I want her on the back of my neck:

Electric Ladyland in New Orleans. Brandon Bond apparently still does guest spots there, wait till he comes through and book a spot with him. Or if you're closer to Atlanta, just book with him there.

I will be in ATL too this fall so yippee!! A medieval crown might be cool too.... I dunno may be too bulky. I really want either Heh or an inverted cross.

If you want to have even a remote chance of getting in with Brandon you should try and book now. His wait list is probably ridiculous. If you are going to get the design in black and grey however, book with Tony Olivas. You won't get more detail rendered by anyone outside of California.

a tattoo that isn't a very simple design like the infinity symbol is going to have to be at least six or seven inches if you want it to age well or want nice detail in it. The little dude won't work on the back of your neck for more than 10 years and since that's an area that gets a lot of sun, it might not even last that long.

For tattoos in general, bigger and bolder is better in terms of longevity.

I always suggest going in and speaking to an artist when you have an idea of the art you want. They will help you work out what you're going to get and work with you on placement and personalization.

The tattoo message board I post on only has these two states surrounding Louisianna (it's not listed). I got ink by Nixxon at Pigment Tattoo in NOLA.

That egyptian god would be doable with design changes by an artist who has good single needle skills, and it would last. I've seen smaller and more intricate designs by Jack Rudy and Mark Mahoney that have aged just fine after 20 years. Look up my friend Ben (www.myspace.com/bengrillo) to see some of the miniatures he's doing. I've seen them after years and they age fine. That being said, if the person isn't specifically qualified for the technique, then you're out of luck.

I agree that she's perfect, but why not improve upon perfection? I would never get a tattoo myself (I'm too flakey), but I see the appeal. I think it would only stand to add dimension to Zin's character.

Zin - I hear the back of the neck is very painful. Oh, and I'm diggin' Isis.

Those miniatures are really beautiful. Part of my tattoo has realllllly fine lines and is small, too. You're right about someone being qualified for technique. I'd say that generally bigger is better... but probably because the apocalypse is allll over my back.

God. I know. My artist is like that, too. I have to book him AT LEAST 4 months out. D:

Your last statement has me curious... Who would you say IS a good artist in CA? I see nothing but shit anywhere I look...

Annnd. I guess what I'm looking for is someone with good traditional and good black and grey.

In SoCal there's a ton of artists who are kickass traditional style artists, but to tell you the truth I would probably take a little drive up to Sacramento to see my buddies at Forever Tattoo. These guys are insanely good. Lucky Bastard in Orange is really good at traditional, but if you want the real deal, straight from the old school vibe from one of the original bad boys, go see Dave Gibson (http://www.myspace.com/abcdavegibson).

Black and grey, go see Jack Rudy, Chuey Quintanar (http://www.myspace.com/chueygtc), Ben Grillo, Jose Lopez, Jun Cha (http://www.arudima.com/wordpress/newgallery/ink/), or Carlos Torres (http://www.myspace.com/carlitoswaytat2).
