    Default Club gender

One would think a strip club would have a very masculine vibe. The decor is boys-night-out macho, sports are showing on the tube, the advertising gracing the walls and bar would be at home in a garage.
But as I've became a regular at a club the past year and gotten to know the dancers, I now think of that club as probably the most feminine space I inhabit. Not surprising really. Guys come in, spend at most a couple of hours and hit the road. For the dancers, it's their day-to-day work environment. Ultimately, it has to be somewhere the dancers are comfortable. They set the mood and in a large part establish the rules and routines.
I find myself at ease with that, but it certainly is at odds with my former perception.
That's my observation of this smallish club, anyway. I don't know about large, upscale gentlemen's clubs, which seem impersonal to me.

This reversal in perspective is common in people who frequent the clubs and/or pay any attention to what actually goes on in them!

For example: guys view getting dances with the mentality that they are "getting" something, whereas the strippers see it as an indication of a sale having successfully been made.

My SO has undergone a complete mental transformation about the sex industry after having dated me for a few years!

Maybe the club has a eunuch vibe as you can look, but you can't go any further....

An interesting club in this respect is The Lodge, in Dallas. The couple that opened this club also owned Caligula XII, just an ordinary ugly dive strip club. The husband (a small-time Greek entrepeneur) bought Caligula XII without the wife's consent and the wife resented this, almost to the point of divorcing him. However, Caligula XII was thriving, while the couple's other 2 businesses were on the verge of bankruptcy.

The wife, finally, decided to embrace the stripclub business, but on her terms. Thinking they were going to lose Caligula XII, because of zoning disputes with the city, they opened up another SC. This time, the wife took to modeling and decorating it (with money borrowed from her mom). She turn it into a very classy club with expensive leather and oak furniture and an upscale hunting lodge theme. It went on to receive many national awards and recognitions, and set very high standards for "Gentleman's Clubs". As it turned out, the city did not close Caligula XII, so the husband continued to operate it. The Lodge then, became the wife's club, and she's operated it ever since.

Mmm, I love looking at photos of strip clubs! Though IMHO I think the Lodge looks a little weird--I don't really 'get' the whole outdoorsy theme. I prefer a more modern look.

^ Hunting is big in Texas. Deer and rhino heads decorate the dark, wooden walls; in the Library, there are glass cases filled with shotguns. In the back room -- the Wine Cellar, a room for members only -- there's a humidor filled with expensive cigars."

Its decorated for men, but by a woman - with a woman's eye for style and elegance.

^ Cool. I bet it looks much prettier without the flash they had to use to take the photos.

Beautiful clubs are nice. I would feel weird dancing in a club that looked like a man cave to be honest lol.

I'm not kidding--in my free time, I sometimes stalk other clubs on stripclublist.com. I like looking at the photos on clubs' websites. Perfect procrastinating material.

I've never been hit with an overwhelming sense of either feminine or masculine vibes when I enter a club. But if I had to pin it one way or the other, I'd say there was a more female ambience simply due to the main focus on the dancers themselves. That's why we're all there, right? Every other aspect of the club fades into the background in comparison.

I'd also give the slight nod to a feminine vibe.

I'm there to check out the "scenery" but it's of the female persuasion.

Me too. I like seeing what is different that what I have worked with and where certain looks are more popular than others.

In Robert Greene's, Art of Seduction, he talks about seductresses luring masculine men into the feminine world:

"These women—among them Bathsheba, from the Old Testament; Helen of Troy; the Chinese siren Hsi Shi; and the greatest of them all, Cleopatra—invented seduction. First they would draw a man in with an alluring appearance, designing their makeup and adornment to fashion the image of a goddess come to life. By showing only glimpses of flesh, they would tease a man's imagination, stimulating the desire not just for sex but for something greater: the chance to possess a fantasy figure. Once they had their victims' interest, these women would lure them away from the masculine world of war and politics and get them to spend time in the feminine world—a world of luxury, spectacle, and pleasure."

I think the concept of the modern-day upscale gentleman's club with the glamorous dancers is an example of this. It appeals to the business/professional men who want be seduced by a "fantasy figure" and escape from the "masculine world of war and politics".

I prefer an abstract industrial look with comfort and conveniences.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.
