    Default acryllic nails

so I just got mine done and so far...not liking them. I got pink tips and they look good under the blacklight but that's about the only thing I like about them.

I can't freaking button up shirts, pick up coins, open cans, or do ANYTHING with them on. one of them is already broken from one of my pole tricks that I did last night even AFTER I filed them down! the lady at the salon made them way too long so I spent about an hour shaping them and filing them down to the right length.

    what a waste.

Sounds like a few things have happened here.

1.Obviously she wasn't listening to what you wanted so maybe try a different place next time.
2.If it already broke then she may not have mixed the powder with enough liquid to make it strong enough or used fake nails to thin underneath.
3.Maybe your natural nails are just too healthy to keep on false ones. That's my problem and after a while I stopped asking my Grandmother to do them. She is great and is a licensed manicurist, but they just won't stay on mine past a day while on everyone else she does just gets fillings a week or two later no problem lol.

If you keep them on all of the things you're having difficulty with will go away. You'll definitely get used to it, and if you ever have your fake nails removed you'll feel helpless without them lol!

What type of acrylics did you get?

The only time an acrylic nail broke off my finger, was when it took my own nail bed with it.
You get used to doings things.. I remember typing was a pain in the ass, but you get used to it. Depends how long you get them too.. I never had them too long.

I would find another tech... make sure they listen to you and that they DO NOT use MMA products. Google it.. or you can say bye bye to your nails.

Tell me about it! I am a fake nail wearer for 8 years now and the longest I can live without them is about a week

I love acrylic nails but give it a couple days and you'll be a pro at them. When I first got mine done I couldnt button my pants or remove my contacts from my eyes but I got used to them and mine are super long.

It definately takes a minute, like the rest of the girls said, but you will get used to it in no time. When I first moved to Vegas from Chicago I went to a million different nail salons til I found "my match". Keep trying new places. Nails shouldn't break the day after for sure but now that you have nails, you do have to be sorta aware of them til you get used to them. So they don't break, of coarse. Good luck girlie!!!

BabyGirl You gotta speak up!!!! Nails are expensive, and time consuming. NEVER leave the salon unhappy. Now are these done with UV gel?? If so yes it is a waste if you are not happy. If done correctly You should nat be able to file them, they would be too thick. DO NOT GO BACK THERE PLEASE

Give it a little time and you will get used to them.

I get my nails done a little bit shorter than most but it's a length that I can work with.

the way I used to get mine was pointy oval shape with red polish EVERY TIME. I was going for a 40's pin up look since that's how they wore them back in the day. I basically A. worked a pin up girl look and B. loved that look. It is dated, yea, I'll admit and cop to that....but they looked SO PRETTY on my hands.

I understand not being able to do things...I was there feeling that same feeling every two weeks when I'd get a fill. Here is what I used to do: get them done a bit short and have them done THICK with THREE layers of polish. That way, when they grow out they aren't extremely long and the polish stays longer in addition, it takes more to crack the nail. I am rough on fake nails, but they were so sturdy that I did not break mine for a month. And that's with two fills. It was pure heaven because the other salon made them so thin that within a week after getting them filled I was back at the salon getting like one or two fixed. IT PISSED ME OFF....SO I changed salons! Simple as that!!

I miss mine, but I was having problems with fungus? It seems I always have my hands in water- and I'm not a compulsive washer.
But you will get used to them. Just use your finger pads, not the nails to do stuff.

I love mine but I have the same problem, picking up coins, taking out contacts -- only if they get too long. When I get them filled I get them filed to exactly fingertip length. I got them a little longer last time and now it's been 2 weeks they're beginning to drive me a little crazy. I'm really active with my hands though -- I cook, do housework, etc., and can't stay off the pole -- and I usually don't break nails. The real culprit is stress and chewing on them. THat will pop one off in no time.

I also used to go to a few nail salons that sucked. You really have to hunt around. Ask your friends who have nice nails where they go and who does them. I found a lady I honestly believe does them PERFECT!

I don't get acrylics put on me anymore because 1) it wrecks your nails 2) you could get some nasty diseases if the nail place don't sterilize their tools correctly (saw it on tyra) 3) they get in my way of doing everything!! and it hurts like a bitch to break one off and then i looked stupid walking around with missing nails until i could get them redone. Anyway my solution is cheesy but it's what i do..... I buy the stick on nails (kiss pink brand) i have small hands and super tiny nail beds..the kiss pink brand are made for younger girls and they stay on pretty well and you can just take them off whenever you want! I like them because they dont wreck your nails, and i dont like to wear fake ones at work all the time because they get in the way of my grip. But sometimes i do want longer flashy nails...so yeah i like the press on nails!!

I have them and for awhile. Mine are great and i love them. mine are longer then some but i like them that way and i work well with them and type great with them. Picking up coins, not so good but who cares lol I dont do french manicures, i just dont like them. I get mine painted. I have been going to same guy for awhile and he knows how to do mine nails. When i first started I went through a lot of salons, and yep i complained when they made them to short, rounded them, uneven. My guys knows me well enough,my nails must always look good and he makes sure of that. I wont let his wife do my nails, she makes to round them then he has to fix them lol
If you dont like them, tell them right away!!!
If you have fungus then they left air bubbles in them OR you natural nail started peeling away from the fake nail. You have to take them off or they can, if they start pulling off the fake nail. Put new ones on, they you are good to go again. You have to change them I think every months, get a new set. I find it cheaper to take them off myself,I save $10
If you take care of them, and make them the length you like, they will last. Remember though,if you find they are to long, go back and they can take them down a little at a time for a small fee. Take you cell phone with you to make sure you can text w/o problems with that length. That trick never fails

Yeah I love the way acrylic nails look and especially how cool they glow under the blacklights but they get in my way when I try and do pole tricks and floorwork...I always bust the sides of them off by accident while I dance and its kind of embarassing to have the corner of your fake nail fly off to some where random on the stage and contine to keep glowing under the blacklight while it's just chilling there on the stage! haha! Yeah I gave up on them quick....I'm trying to grow my nails out just alittle and paint them.

I just paint my nails black. I had my talons back in the day when I was doing coke and needed to duck in the bathroom stall . It was a running joke that you could tell of I was dating a boy or girl by the length and type of nails that I had....Of course that wasn't always true...my uberneedy Klingon ex girlfriend brought out my inner sadist with a vengeance!!!!

Ive got a love hate with fake nails. Currently im not wearing them, because when I almost dropped a laundry basket out of my car onto the ground and when i caught it, it ripped my faked nails off, along with my real nails. Lots of blood. So I swore off them for a while..
You will get used to them. It always took me a couple days to manage with them, but then it feels natural. I always kept mine short tho...I dont get how ladies operate with the looooong nails. nyways, good luck

If you broke your nail from pole tricks then your nails were far too long. Next time if you go in ask for "sport length". Keeping the nails squared off also will help keep them from breaking since any pressure applied will have more coverage area rather than a small point.

As for working around your nails, you need to use the sides of your fingers rather than the tip. I know opening soda cans seems like a pain with nails, but again you use the sides not the tip. I should make a video of this. Basically your pointer finer nail needs to face down touching the metal, but running perpendicular from the can's opening tab, you then slide the skin under the tab & pull the tab up. I use my thumb on the side of the tab to help anchor the hand. Usually I am holding the can in my left hand (for this picture I needed my left hand to get the photograph though), & then use the right hand to actually open the can.

Once you start using the sides of your fingers you will find that doing buttons & everything else is not hard at all, just a matter of changing old habits.
