I don't know if this can be done in all states but I assume it can be. I have a group insurance plan with two other people who have a small business with me. It started out with just one person who was my partner.

The business really doesn't matter it just has to have a license. Our business has negligible income. Then you need to find a cooperative insurance agent. Our group plan is much much cheaper and more comprehensive then buying an individual plan.

I had private insurance in the states. Aetna. I'm not sure of their rates anymore but I remember them being awesome to work with. They were really good about paying for several VERY expensive surgeries of mine even though I had a pre-existing and had great customer service. They never denied me anything - they were really great and easy and.....honestly, when I hear about the shitty service people get from other insurance companies I am SO glad I had Aetna.

Just be careful of what health insurance you select if you are self-employed. A more expensive plan usually does cover a lot more... I learned this the hard way once when I had an allergic reaction to food, and they claimed to be an 80/20 health care plan. They covered about 200 dollars of a visit that cost well over 8 grand. They even charged me for watching the superbowl on a beautiful 8 inch tv screen...

Rockette, that is exactly what I don't want to happen when I get insurance! They only covered 200 out of 8k? That sucks I'm glad you started this thread HustletteDiva. I really need health insurance, and was trying to compare what companies would be the best.

I'm still not exactly sure why they covered so little. I remember it being called "Beech Street" and it was a relatively inexpensive plan under Cigna, costing me about 250 dollars a month at the time. Still not sure to this day why they covered so little... so just do ALL of your research before getting your own health insurance.
