not really something i've been following or particularly care about, but i did like this part
Customers or “johns” face the same penalties as prostitutes, but without the possibility of getting their criminal records expunged.
-love everyone but keep them far from your soul-

no but it's not too far from where I live. many of the dancers I work with now work over here to escape the prostitution. one girl told me that in RI "two consenting adults can do whatever they want behind closed doors" and it was taken to mean legal prosititution. she said that EVERY dancer she worked with in RI took part in some form of prostitution and she couldn't bring herself to do it

I live there but don't patronize the spas and the impact of the law was only temporary afaik. I think there was one spa raid and one craigslist bust in the last year. Word was the spas, escorts, and SC's all scaled back what they offered and business suffered. As time passed, they've seemed to go back to business as usual (at least the SC's have). My understanding is all the extras that were available before are no less available today. Full service is apparently readily available at the clubs known for that. I briefly stopped in a local SC a couple weeks ago and was offered FS within 10 minutes. That had actually never happened before.

No way would I agree with this statement though dancers in RI have to endure much higher contact levels than do the girls in neighboring states. The prostitution aspect might also be the rule at certain clubs rather than the exception but I would not say that applies state-wide.

I have to agree with BEM that, as a blanket statement, this simply isn't true. I can understand how some girls might get frustrated at the competition in RI for shrinking customer dollars but there are many girls down there who work relatively clean. The clubs are full contact so you are not going to make any money if you try to dance two feet in front of a guy but blatant extras and prostitution are not the only way to make a living as a dancer in RI. I can think of about half a dozen ladies who I know well who have all survived 8 to 10 years dancing in RI without relying on prostitution to do it.
That being said, I have noticed very little difference in the clubs since the law change last year. The cleaner clubs are still clean and the dirty clubs are still dirty. Again, because of the accepted contact levels, there is really no such thing as a totally clean club in RI. I have never been a spa customer so I can't really comment on that.

I never went to a RI SC before the law repealed, but it doesn't seem like it slowed anything down

Not really, no. Strip clubs are not a priority for the Providence Police department. Actually, anything that keeps girls off the streets is more of a help from a public relations point of view. A few clubs tightened up at first but it didn't last long. Things are pretty much the way they were in the past. The reality is that the economy has not really gotten any better, or at least any recovery hasn't trickled down to the clubs. Some would say it's actually easier to find all sorts of extras in most of the clubs in Providence.
