I'm trying to decide between P90x and joining a Crossfit gym. I hear Crossfit is great but don't know anyone that's done it. It looks really expensive though. Has anyone here tried it?

Do Crossfit. It will kick your ass, and you will see phenomenal functional strength gains, along with insane physical composition changes. There is no substitute for having a trainer working with you, keeping you from injuring yourself, yet pushing you to your limits in a way that no dvd ever could.

I also vote for crossfit. Besides the fitness gains, you become part of a pretty great community that motivates each other. Haven't you ever wanted to try olympic lifts?![]()

I tried crossfit but I didn't like how rough the bars made my hands. Callouses are not sexy
^^^
Did you try gloves?

Callouses build character...well that's what my coach tells me
Gloves sometimes get in the way of certain movements though...say kiping pull-ups. You risk serious injury by not having a solid grip on the bar. Only way to do it is to chalk up.

Probably right about gloves, I wouldn't know because I've never used them. I can tell you however that I've always used chalk and I have tons of callouses still. Guess callouses are just part of the game....
I f**** love Crossfit-the results are great and quick. It's hard, but since the workouts are so short it's over before you really have time to think about it. And having a trainer right there with you is worth so much-as already mentioned he/she will make sure you don't injure yourself and provide some extra motivation you may not have on your own. I can only recommend it.
I was really nervous after all I read online about how tough it is etc., but the people that do this are usually very supportive and will push you to do only what you can.
Most crossfit gyms have a "free Saturday" thing. Check it out.

Ok, I'm going to do it. I heard it does amazing things for your butt and abs.

It does amazing things to EVERYTHING!
So did you try the free class yet Sammie? At my gym, the ladies outnumber the gents...not that I'm complaining.![]()
Crossfit can be really productive, but there's not enough emphasis on good instruction and the ever-present danger of high-impact joint injuries that are quite common to this specific training regimen.
Just be aware.
