    Default new to dancing

    Hello Ladies,

Thank you for having me on the forums. I'm pretty new to dancing and i also started dancing with a friend of mine.

Our knees are completely and totally fucked up. Do any of you ladies have tips on how to preserve the health of your knees ?

At our club we do both pole and floor work, but the floor work appears to be killing us both.
Especially my friend, she bruises easily and she has the most massive bruises on her knees and legs right now.
I'm black so you can barely tell.

does anyone have any tips ?

In my experience as a dancer the bruises are going to come, and they will kill, but as time goes on they arent as bad. Mine dont seem to be as painful as they once were. I remember when I first started dancing my knees hurt so bad I felt like I could barely walk at the end of the night, but it does get better. Now I make twice the money, give twice the amount of dances, and can walk up the stairs just fine at the end of the night.

When my knees are really bruised though, I use this roll on stuff called max freeze. you can get it at like CVS by icy hot or the arthritis stuff. It was kind of cold in the winter but I certainly didnt feel the pain anymore. That and aleve when they really hurt. I always went with aleve for joint pain because its an anti inflammatory aswell.

1.) Take a pain killer before you go to work
2.) Stay off the floor as much as possible
3.) Take arnica pills & another pain killer when you come home
4.) Relax in an epsom salt bath
5.) Apply a topical arnica gel (cream isn't as good)
6.) Drink pineapple juice once in awhile.

Arnica is the age old cure for strippers. Pineapple juice also is great for bruises. Everything else pretty much just helps to numb or prevent the pain.

Fluid can build up under the knees, & many dancers who stay in this profession end up going to the doctor to get the fluid drained out. Some end up needing knee surgery.

Do some research on burlesque, learn to pose, & really try to stay off the knees. If you insist on doing floor work you can also use a blanket (faux sheepskin rugs look good) on stage to help pad your knees & allow you to slide around more. Just ask your manager if he/she will allow you to use a nice blanket.
    Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.
