Travel PORTLAND, : Worth it or not?

I'm planning a trip by myself to Portland in December for a few weeks. It's a little over a days drive there from where I live. How is it winter time over there? Is it similar to Vegas? Which clubs are good that are 18+ (I'm on the edge of 21 which pisses me off ) Other than that, I reaaally need a break from SoCal

If you ate underage, you will not be allowed to work the floor. You will only be allowed on stage. It's not worth working for a minor; I'd wait until you're 21; you'll have better luck.

I had a friend dance in Portland that was under 21 and she said the same thing. She was only allowed to dance on stage because she was underage. Good luck!

It's not worth it even if you're over 21 especially if you have to go far out of your way to travel there. You won't be able to work the floor in 21+ clubs meaning at best you'll probably pull in about $100-200 bucks depending on your stage sets. Even working the floor and you average less than $600. I've worked at about six different clubs in Portland and they are all consistently the same year around. If you're really serious about going there then I'd suggest either Spyce or Dolphin II. Dolphin II is set up a bit like Vegas clubs with their VIP options but the couch dancing rules are just too awkward for me. On the plus side you gain regulars very easily but this doesn't really matter for two shits if you're traveling and have no intentions of going back. Overall its really relaxed and most girls don't hustle or even know how to hustle which is a drawback because customers expect you to hang out with them and drink for free.

Jiggles is 18+. I worked there for a weekend and it was usually a younger crowd so the money wasn't that great. Plus the dancers were extremely bitchy for no damn reason.

So will Spyce or Dolphins let me work the floor? My friend is 19 and she works at Lucky Devil Lounge NOT just on stage so what's up with that? lol

No one will let you work the floor. not even one club. Your friend isn't being totally honest with you. I have friends that work that club, I'll ask them about that. I'm pretty sure its not true though.

Club rouge and Spyce have kind of taken over the downtown area. They have a lot of underage girls working. Sometimes four or more girls on stage at a time during the night shifts. There is a lot of traffic though, lots of clubs in that area so it would be a good start.

Hustle is good to bring to Portland because not a lot of girls bother.

If you work in some neighborhood bars you'll get a lot of local regulars who walk in, get beers, cheap food and tip the bare minimum. They also don't like to be hustled so it's a touch rough to find a place where you'll make some good money where you're not stuck on a schedule rotation that consists of having to work a million day shifts just to get some nights.

There's a lot of seniority in some spots too, which means you wont even be on a night shift unless someone calls in and management asks you to stay. Which means you'll be working a double. Hell, i've worked MANY doubles just to get on nights in some places.

Dolphin I hear is a decent sized place, I personally never worked there but I hear good things.
If you're a minor i'd stick with the larger sized clubs, hope for some night shifts and hopefully the d.j plays up your minor status!

I know the Dolphin clubs won't let you for sure.. Spyce I don't think did when I use to work there.

Club Rogue (another decent club downtown) will allow underage girls to work the floor (at least they did when they first opened up). I haven't been there in a while so I'm not sure how they are doing but the club is beautiful and in a good location.

Thumbs up Re: PORTLAND, : Worth it or not?

good advice so far...if it is out of your way I agree don't head out here, the money is not that great- average $100-200/shift. November/December are normally my best months of the year, but that has a lot to do with having regulars that spend more money around the holidays.

If you want to pick up a little cash on your trip and are just sick of SoCal it might be worth it for you, Portland girls have no idea how to hustle so you could make ok money.

A lot of clubs won't hire minors at all, many others force you to stay in the dressing room between sets. For minors the Dolphin I and II are good, like all clubs you can't work the floor but the DJs will push dances for you if you are underage and you are in a special minor area that I hear attracts guys- you're not in the dressing room and it's like having a "barely legal" sign attached to you LOL

I would recommend Jiggles despite what someone else said- the girls there warm up to you even though they can be mean at first, just stay out of the drama and you will be fine, friday/sat nights are ALWAYS busy and they have a 3 songs for $100 VIP room which is an easy sell. You have to hustle but I normally made $200-600 on weekend nights.

    good luck!

I dance in Portland and have for a few years... not sure what "worth it"means to everyone but for me it was a big pay cut from working in NYC. I would have regular nights over a grand in New York, which doesn't really happen here. Still, I make decent reliable cash.
Spyce and Club Rouge are TOTALLY teen clubs. I worked at Rouge and a lot of the girls were under 21. Some aren't, though- I'm 34 and I always made money there. Those clubs have VIPS too so the money potential is there... whereas a lot of PDX clubs are really just dive bars with a stage and a punk rock jukebox.
I work at Mary's Club too but you'll never get a shift there- there's no turnover and we've all been there for years. Good temporary/traveler clubs are Rouge, Spyce, Dolphin, Stars, 205- any of the big ones and the two downtown clubs cuz they all have lots of dancers on shift every day.
At Rouge dances are easy to sell and VIPS actually are to, but you gotta hustle. Most nights you can leave with $300-600 but sometimes you can hit it big with VIP, I made $1500 after tip out my first night but that NEVER happened again... and it also never happened in Portland for me, period.
PDX is not a big money town, but it is a really fun town for seeing bands, hanging out, cool cafes and stuff to do. Also, stripping is soooooo chill here and easy, and customers are really respectful in general. Management at places is generally much more chill and pleasant here too. There's no mafioso bullshit, and people don't rip off dancers. House fees are LOW. There's tons of amazing tiny punky clubs where girls play the music they want to hear, do crazy pole tricks and burlesque, dress in their own style, ride their bikes to work, and are covered head to toe in tattoos. And everyone hangs out at strip clubs here- you'll see women, men, touring bands, people of all ages and backgrounds because the clubs are more like regular bars and they usually don't charge cover. I think Portland is a great place to strip, because money is great but it isn't everything!
    Good luck

I have to chime in. Yeh I worked at marys for three years and just left, and I also worked at various other clubs in pdx for the last four years. Worth is depends on what you like, but I think most places that are worth it money wize you have to be there a long time to get the good shifts. I made very reliable money in PDX and I loved working at marys. Very laid back and not alot of the gold digging ho stuff going on that you may see in other states. Hustle is a good thing to bring, everyone Ive seen hustle over the years really makes money.
Check out spyce for sure, and jiggles is the only place that lets you on the floor being under twenty one. Some places have a minors table but I havent seen one in a while.
Fortunatly there are very low house fees and usually low maitnence managment.
If youre going to travel to pdx just to make money I would think twice, but it is a fun place to work. I miss it...

I work at LDL from time to time. If you're a minor you're supposed to stay downstairs in the dressing room. The dressing room is down in the basement, on the other side of the bar from the stage. So you have to walk across the entire bar, past the DJ booth, to get to the stage, do your set, and walk all the way back. So that might be what your friend means by being able to 'work the floor' - you have the opportunity to talk to people as your walking to and from the stage. The private dance rooms are just to the side of the stage. So you can sell dances off your rack at the end of the set. Mostly girls jump into the lapdance room to get dressed after they leave the stage.

I'd say your best bet as a minor and traveling is to work at Jiggles for a couple of nights. My roommate worked there, the money is good and you can really schedule yourself. She told me that you can kind of just show up in the daytime and work until the night, they close at like 4am. I also knew a gal who would come down from Olympia and work at Jiggles all weekend and make a ton of $$ and drive back up.
