    Default Tips for sleeping

Oh man this sucks. I have never in my entire life had a hard time sleeping. I used to joke that I could sleep standing up and fall asleep in any situation including when I wasnt even tired.

Im in exams now and Im studying about 14-16 hours per day. So my brain is crazy active. Im pretty anxious about these exams and Im also drinking some caffeine. Not much, maybe a coffee in the morning and a redbull after lunch.

Thing is I cant seem to fall asleep until 3am every night even though Ive been in the library all day reading the most boring stuff you could possibly imagine. Im so tired by the time I leave but as soon as I lie down I cant sleep at all.

Help!!! Do I have to resort to seeing a doctor for sleeping pills or is there some other way I can deal with this. Valarien is not an option ... I can take double the amount to sleep and work LOL

has your sleep routine changed? I find the best way to fall asleep is to have a routine. if your brain associates doing certain things like watching your favorite show, taking a shower, or going for a walk before bed then your body will become tired when you do these things. if you don't have a before-bed routine then make one.

if you're stressed out then get one of those relaxation tapes that sound like the ocean, rain, white noise, bamboo flutes and shit lol. I listen to them in the car driving to and from work and school and it makes me feel more calm and focused.

I know you've probably read and heard this a million times but drink plenty of water. being dehydrated can fuck up your body. I always keep a bottle of water on my nightstand so when I wake up first thing in the morning I remember to drink water.

trouble sleeping generally indicates some factor in your life that isn't healthy either mentally or physically so even the dumbest thing can stop you from sleeping like a vitamin deficiency or lack of exercise. be aware throughout the day and make conscious efforts to eat foods from all the food groups, get enough exercise, and try to relax as much as possible.

I know the exams are stressing you out but remember attitude is everything so when you're studying instead of thinking "ughhh how am I going to remember all this crap?" close your eyes and imagine yourself walking into your exam feeling confident because you studied so hard and you don't have to worry about getting a bad grade. picture yourself after the exam feeling happy and accomplished and you knew all the answers and breezed right through it.

around exam times i usually take advil PM to help me sleep... but i only did it around exams time and did not get a dependency and its not like i couldn't wake up if there was an emergency... it worked really well for me

also, working out every day helped... because when i was studying a lot my brain was active but my body wasn't. so wearing out my body in a way created a need for my body to sleep in rest in a way. that helped me a lot.

    get some sleep dear!!

Cut way back on the caffeine. Take a nap if you get sleepy in the afternoon. I've used Melatonin effectively to get to sleep...it's a natural remedy, and takes about twenty minutes. Meditate when you lay down in bed, like, go inside your body and feel all the different parts, focus on them, breath deep and slow and notice your breath. This will drive out other thoughts. Get up if you aren't asleep after a half hour and read something for a bit. Focusing on something will clear your mind of other things. Have way more sex.

^ I've used melatonin as well and it worked for me!

Also, have you tried soaking in a bath before bed? Pour some lavender bath salts in and use an aromatherapy lotion after. Soooo relaxing...I'm out like a light afterward

Third on the melatonin. It allows your body to get true rested sleep.

Go to a doctor & get your blood checked. Everything you are talking about sounds like what I went through for YEARS. Have the doctors look at your ferritin & iron levels specifically. If those levels aren't right you will always be tired, resort to caffeine, sugar or meds to keep you awake... & then never be able to fall asleep easily. I'm still working to get mine leveled out but was relying on unisom tablets to get me to sleep.

If you can order blood labs yourself you can check your ferritin. It should be a minimum of 30 & optimally around 50. Mine is super low, like 14-17, but some people have it get as low as 5.
    Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

I also have a hard time sleeping during stressful school times, between the messed up hours and the coffee it gets pretty bad.

What really works for me is getting in the bed time mindset. I don't drink anything with caffiene after 4pm and most importantly I do not go on the computer, watch TV, play on my phone or sit in brightly lit rooms for an hour before I plan on going to bed. The lights, especially from computer and TV stimulate your brain even after you stop doing these activities.
