    Mind Blowing Men's Room attendants?

I went out to a nearby club last night, and got to wondering about the guys "working" the men's room.

First off, are they actually being paid by the club, or are they working just for tips? And if they *are* just working for tips, WHY? I mean it just seems so ridiculous to me...

Each time I went to the bathroom, the dude "working" it would flip on the faucet and then point me to the paper towels he has been arranging in a pile. I would wash up, dry my hands, take a mint, and toss a dollar in his basket.

The third time in the evening that I did this, he makes some smarmy remark when I gave him a dollar, something like "gee thanks, maybe I will be able to buy more mints now..."

Jesus Christ buddy, I am tipping you because I feel bad for you, no other reason. And more than half the guys aren't tipping you at all. Do you really need to be such a prick?? What do you honestly expect, that I give you 5 bucks each time I need to take a leak???

If you really want to do me a service, open the door for me when I am leaving so I don't have to touch the handle that all the knuckledraggers who didn't wash their hands just spread their germs all over... For *that* I would probably toss you a 10 spot for the night.

Usually the its the high-end clubs do this, if any still do. They do get pay from the management. I think you should avoid the clubs that do this since those attendants do deserve to be tipped each time your enter. At times they CARRY the toilet paper, then what would you do without tipping?

You know, I been to countries where you would have to PAY to enter a public bathroom, and even if you got in for free, then you got to pay for toliet paper.

I've seen these people in Germany, and to a lesser extent the Netherlands. I've always wondered if they were legit, or if they were people who just camped outside the bathrooms and took change... Either way I find it amusing.

I guess I always assumed attendants were just Janitors making an extra buck. I might toss them something once, or if they go above and beyond, but I'm not going real deep. Sounds like the guy should have been happy with what you gave.

For my region Kisca is right, it's normally minimum wage plus tips.

While I like someone to keep the restrooms clean, I despise feeling obligated to tip someone if I don't use any of their products. I think a lot more places need to look at just having someone check into the restrooms more often, not sit around handing you things like paper towels... I can get those on my own. Then again, I tend to be the type that has everything in my bad... I'm sure some people are the opposite & appreciate the attendants a lot more.

This is in Massachusetts, at a decent club, but I really wouldn't consider it high end...

It just boggles my mind that if someone is going to take a job working a men's room, turning a faucet on and off, that they would have the audacity to talk smack when I actually tip him for doing nothing...

The attendants are not janitors, the self-styled upscale clubs put them there so you feel you're in a high class joint, and to make sure no funny business is going on in there. Maybe even to promote the 21st century idea of washing your hands.

But to tip $1 on each of 3 visits and then get attitude for it is un-heard of. You have to figure: a guy working the mens room at a SC doesn't have too many other options, so he should act accordingly. If that ever happened to me, I wouldn't tip anymore, and just figure that guy won't be there by my next visit.

Yes that feeling was accentuated by the bowl of Wint-O-Green life savers, Depp gel and the bottle of Draakar Noir on the counter

Depp gel and Draakar Noir? This was recent? Not back in 1992?

If those were the products he was providing than $1 for three trips was too much, let alone $1 each time.

I think I know which club you are talking about Teddy, and I agree with you. It is very annoying, and I rarely visit that club because of it.

This animal is still fairly common at the so-called 'high-end" clubs in many cities.

Their duties vary from club to club, ranging from more actively maintaining the bathroom and dispensing soap and towels to simply sitting there looking stupid.

They usually annoy me but I had one instance where I was actually grateful for the existence of this function. I often visit South Carolina and like to hit Platinum Plus in Greenville during Happy Hour. This usually happens shortly after dinner and...well...nature does call. During my last trip I used the very clean facilities two nights in a row. I felt bad for the guy, however, as the sinks are right by the stalls and his seat was no more than 10 feet away from me each time. What a shitty job.

Net-net I don't mind tipping them when they keep the bathroom clean and usable, but I hate giving money to the ones that just sit there all night.

I can't even imagine what depraved things a person had to do in a past life to mess his karma up so bad to be a bathroom attendant in this one.

There was one bathroom attendant that I would always tip. Then when there were long lines to use the urinal, he would kick open the door to a stall and point me to use that one to take my leak. I just tipped him to be nice but I was grateful to be able to do my business without waiting. Other than that case, they have been just annoying. I wonder if some guys don't wash their hands so they don't have to deal with it. I'll wash mine but wipe my hands on my pants or sweater to dry them. I tip occasionally but this whole process just causes a backed up line waiting to use the sink. I'm impatient to get back to the hot dancers.

I hate clubs that have bathroom attendants. I think they should just get ride of them and have one of the bouncers check on it and clean if needed. The BA seems more concerned in giving you a towel instead of cleaning anyways. As for the orginal comment what a jerk that guy was to you. If you took a mint without tipping maybe I can see it but after tipping is uncalled for.

I really don't like bathroom attendants either. I feel like I'm capable of doing something as simple peeing and washing my hands myself, I don't need help doing this. It's one thing if it's a "we're here if you need anything" kind of deal, but every time I've had one they're so damn pushy and I feel obligated to tip for no reason.

Ahhh, okay. This makes sense to me. Without that logic, I would be intensely creeped out by a bathroom attendant.

^I think it has more to do with the "high class feeling" than the "no funny business". I'm not sure who told these people that a BA made it "classy" but no matter what you do, if the bathroom doesn't have a door then it's not.

most of the clubs I've known who have bathroom attendants do so to control drug use.

I work at a "Gentleman's Club" that has a bathroom assistant. As far as the clubs concerned he's there to discourage drug use, jacking off in the stalls, and to make the club seem more posh. The only people I've ever heard complain about tipping the bathroom attendant are cheapo's. The high-roller clientele really seem to LIKE the bathroom attendant. Ours has more than just mints BTW - Listerine, Cologne, spay on deodorant (Axe, Old Spice, etc), mints, face wipes and hands you a real towel to dry your hands on (a fresh one for every client). We used to have a shoe shine stall....not sure what happened to that...

He's paid minimum wage by the club, but tips are expected. Men typically hand him $5 or $10 at the beginning of the night and then use the washroom as much as they please. If you don't like the attendant, then maybe you should go to a 'divey-er' club. He shouldn't have been an ass though, that's very crass.

    You are kidding me right?

I generally tip people who provide me with some kind of useful service, and I tip them well. Turning on a faucet for me, is not a useful service. But as I said, tipping him a dollar each time he provided this "service" for me was more than generous.

Also nothing SCREAMS high roller like spray on cologne... (Axe, Old Spice, etc). If that is what you have in your club's bathroom, I hate to break it to you, but it is not a high class establishment...

I tend to agree with the posters who mentioned that he is there to make sure there is no funny business going on, in which case it is the club's obligation to pay him a decent wage, not mine...

^No, I'm not kidding. If you don't like washroom attendants, then don't go to clubs with washroom attendants. Or suck it up. *shrugs*

Also, high roller doesn't always equal great taste. Saw one a few weeks ago that had a suit that looked like something Betelgeuse would wear.

Or option 3, I continue to go the club, tip the bartenders and dancers well, and thank God I am not the loser working in the men's room...

Public toilets are only 20p or so. Is that not normal? I don't mind it, it means they're nicer and cleaner cause we don't get little vandals and skanks messing them up.

I've never seen somwhere you'd have to pay for toilet paper. I've seen plenty of bathrooms that don't get the toilet paper refilled often enough.
