that's bizarre. i'd be worried that somebody was looking to steal it to sell or something.

no I've never had to give a club my birth certificate. I've never given the club more than my driver's license. they don't need your birth certificate, social security number, or anything like that.

true. I've never been on the books as a dancer but that's true
Never. Just ID and social.
Depends. DJV clubs will typically ask for your social, but not all of them send out 1099's (for whatever reason). So there are definately clubs that will ask for your social that DON'T send them out... you'd have to ask management at your particular club to be sure.
Typically... (in my experience) when they do send them out they'll have some part of your contract about how you're responsible for filing your own taxes, ect. So it's mentioned when you're hired.

i've never had anyone ask for my birth certificate for ANY job...and i would be suspicious to give it to employers, especially an sc. so the short answer is no...no clubs i've ever worked for has asked for anything more than an id.

^^^ actually this is part of the 'employer' compliance mandate of the Patriot Act ... which subjects US businesses to stiff penalties if they fail to verify the legal work status of their 'employees'. In the past, a Social Security number was usually considered sufficient evidence that a person was a US citizen.
However, after the Meg Whitman's maid incident during the recent election, a high profile example now exists ( there were many similar incidents earlier but most were low profile ) that the 'employer' must perform greater due diligence than simply accepting a Social Security card that can be stolen or fake plus the 'word' of the prospective 'employee'. Thus the legal work status citizenship test has now stepped up to requiring more 'secure' documents like stamped birth certificates and US passports.
Ive never given anything other than my ID to any of my clubs...

I think they require it in Vegas if you are under 21. I've never been asked and the club would be SOL if they did ask. I don't have a birth certificate. Even if I could produce it, the thing is written in a language and alphabet that no neanderthal club manager is going to know anyway.
I know they asked for a copy of my birth certificate when I started working at my club. They also took a copy of my license and my SSN (but they don't send out 1099s). They never got a copy of my birth certificate though because I said it would take a while to get here (I'm in Rhode Island and was born in California) but no one bothered to ask me again for it.
I know it isn't just me, because I've heard other girls in the locker room bitch about it after their first shifts so I guess that makes it less suspicious. I assume my club asks for it because last year there was some issue about underage girls working at a club in Providence so they're probably just covering their asses.
I've never been asked for my social, never mind birth certificate. I don't even know where mines is... probably in my parents attic or something!

that IS bizarre. wow. weird.

almost all managers assume we're stupid, unreliable whores. so if you show up and they ask for your birth certificate, tell them you forgot, or that you can't find it, or that you have no clue how to get a new copy of it. but i'll bet no one will ask, because it was probably bs.

This is probably the result of someone in the corporate club offices checking to see that the company has proper Patriot Act documentation on file for every 'worker'.Why would they call WEEKS LATER to ask for the birth certificate? That doesn't remotely make sense.
