I've never modeled nude for art classes but i have painted/drawn nude models at my university. From what I've seen they don't really have a preference-I've done old, young, plump, skinny, muscular etccc.

I can tell you from the art classes that I take at uni that there have been every body type of girls (and guys) model for us. From really skinny to pretty curvy. Students can always alter things (and they will) to suit their artistic style, unless you're modelling for portraiture. Basically the body just needs to be there to make sure the pose you draw is anatomically correct

Damn, why didn't they have a model like you back when I took figure drawing in college?!

Actually one of the models wasn't bad looking, though not in your league. But being attractive isn't the primary criteria for hiring the models. Some instructors deliberately choose the very 'curvy' overweight types, because it presents a different visual challenge, capturing the rolls of fat, etc. in the drawings.

One thing I will warn you about--if you do it you will have to maintain certain poses for a long time, and that is hard work!

I did this longer than I did dancing. They look for all different types and even ages. For instance they liked that I had curves but muscular too. The pay varies. I started at $14 hour I believe and strangely the pay has gone down (probably because more did it). Many artists prefer people who can hold various poses.

Okay, so I finally got a hold of someone..

It's $15hr for 3 hrs, one day a week... So that's $45wk/$180mo.. You do a total of 5 poses in 3 hours.. It's like 40mins away from my house... Definitely more than a little interested in this! Just to do something different. I'm gonna look up some poses..

I've done this and it's not bad work. I would get into a pose and sort of check out mentally for awhile. If you can meditate, you can art model.

Be prepared for the fact that most artist studios are not heated well. Bring a robe to slip into and don't be afraid to ask for a space heater if you need one.

I am bored with what I'm doing, and would love to try something different, what a great idea! How do you go about finding the job kaiarose? Did you just call around to different art schools and inquire that way?

Thank you, I may just do that! I like trying different things, also it never hurts to get out there and network, meet new people. I don't mind too much what I do now, but I certainly would be doing something else if I could. I was hard up for cash, and I just kind of fell back on it for emergency money...again thanks for the idea

I used to be an art model -it's how I started feeling more comfortable moving on to stripping. I was an art student & whenever models had gigs they couldn't make they would just pass them on to me.

Keep in mind, though, being an art model is painful (as in joints, muscle spasms, muscle cramps, limbs falling asleep, etc..) at times depending on what type of class your in. If you have no experience in modeling -you might wanna start of posing for quick gesture classes & what not before you move on to life drawing or oil classes. Also the pay is very minimal in regards to what people in our industry are used to. Most models make only about $12 -$20 an hour (even for nude) -scaling more at the lower end of the scale. I did get a higher number sometimes in private sittings for artist sometimes, but I was holding more complicated poses for longer sittings (2 -3 weeks).

But it is a very rewarding experience. Especially, when you get to see your naked ass hanging in a gallery at a opening one night or in a random exhibition

Btw, photographers will usually pay more than painters, etc. Obviously.

I am an art model for college- Earlier in the week, I went to the front desk at the art college, asked for the life drawing teacher and told them I wanted to be a model for the class. Then I had to call the art dept. supervisor., and she got me all set up with some classes. I can't actually afford to even go to the school, but it's professional and classy. I am going to bring a book on tape, drink some tea and have a lil food first.
I was told a lot of old wrinkled men model for the class .. ew:/p so they were glad to have me model. I dont have the perfect body but I'm looking forward to drawings, paintings, and my ass hangin in the art gallery too.
