Default Why do my kidneys hurt after drinking?

Maybe this has always been a problem but I am just now recently noticing it. I googled it and found nothing. Is it the dehydration? Is it a sign of a larger problem? Anyone else have experience with this?

Obviously I should cut back on the partying or stop altogether. I have started drinking more water and my friend pointed out my diet coke addiction is not helping, so I am trying to kick that too.

I'm scared. It just seems very unnatural for internal organs to hurt.

Drink more water, get the coke and sodas out of your system, or even slow down your drinking.

Could be the stomach lining, "TUMS" help for that, could be an ucler.. if worse could get to kidney stones. If the pain lasts a long time, I would suggest seeing a doctor. Stop drinking for a week or two and see whether the pain persists.

I'm like this. It happens after a night of heavy drinking, any time I'm super dehydrated, or if I've been drinking way too much pop. Worst after alcohol though. For me, I was born with slight kidney problems and am very prone to kidney and bladder infections. Try to stay super hydrated (drink lots of water before crashing after a night out) and cranberry juice or cranberry pills can help.

If it doesn't get better I would suggest a doctor visit. They'll basically do an MRI (or something) of your kidneys filling and emptying to make sure there aren't blockages and that everything is running smoothly.

Kidney problems often come with pcos . I found put earlier this summer there was protein coming thru my kidneys... I am waiting to be insured again before I investigate further, but I googled it and kidney issues are a common problem with pcos.

I have found avoiding beer and sugary beverage cuts back on kidney pain.
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

Kidney pain can be a symptom of a few things...some mild...some deadly serious like diabetes and kidney disease. It could be a kidney stone (I'm suffering from one right now) - but you're young and it's unlikely.

I'm NOT saying that you have these at all, but if the pain happens in DIRECT relation to your drinking - and it persists - then you certainly need to see a Doctor and have some tests done.

Meantime, stop drinking and flush out your system with mild fluids like water and squashes. Coca Cola, Dr. Pepper and things like Red Bull all have MASSIVE amounts of caffiene in them which is not good for the system on a regular basis.

But get your pee tested for sure...and blood if necessary too.

FYI, I can help you get health insurance, I sell it. Text or call me and we'll talk.

I asked a doctor about this once, but I was experiencing lower back pain after heavy drinking, and he told me it's displaced pain, sometimes you feel lower back pain, but it may or may not be from your kidneys, and usually it's actually not your kidneys. Who knows though.....

Definitely see a doctor if you are having kidney pain... I learnt about kidneys last semester and they are truly amazing. Did you know you really only need 20% functionality in one kidney to survive? However, pain is not normal. Even after drinking. In the meantime, try to drink 3 litres of water a day to flush them for a week or so.

Yes, jessie, I heard kidneys can function on 20%. Pretty scary.

So I am pretty sure it's the alcohol and the dehydration. I probably still have the kidney infection I was recovering from. I know it's not back pain, it only happens when I drink alcohol. I am a massage therapist, so I understand about referring pain. And I don't have any symptoms of stones or anything. So I guess I am not dying of anything terminal or crazy. Thank God. I was scared.

So Athena, I looked up kidneys and PCOS, and FML, one more thing we have to worry about. They are saying Vitamin D deficiency is a big part. I am gonna start taking more Vitamin D.

I am giving up alcohol. It's going to be hard because everyone drinks around me and pushes me to drink even when I don't want to. I took two bottles of sprite on a boat trip a while back cause I didn't want to drink. Everyone laughed at me and made fun of me and tried to make me drink. They pulled that "just have one". Next thing you know, I am sloshed. Sooo, I am just gonna start telling people I really do have a kidney disease so they will leave me alone. I dunno why people are so bent on getting other people drunk. I don't even like drinking that much. It makes me feel shitty.

Which brings me to the info I found on drinking and all the shitty things it does to your body. I was not aware of the insulin response drinking has. I am insulin resistant and my mother, father and most everyone else has diabetes in my family. My father went into a coma this Thanksgiving and his heart stopped.

So apparently drinking doesn't just screw your kidneys, it screws your liver, pancreas, blood sugar, brain, etc. I am not sure why alcohol is the last legal drug. It's just nasty.

Im gonna get to a doctor when I can. I don't have insurance, so it's hard to see a doctor. I might need to contact you about that insurance JD.

Oh I gave up sodas too, but the research I did said sodas are not that big of a deal. That caffiene is not that strong of a diuretic if your body is used to it.

I am focusing on giving them up anyway, since they have no real value anyway.

So true Lilmiss. Alcohol is really really bad for you. It is sad that people fell the need to pressure others. When I did my detox I told people I had diabetes and couldnt drink and everyone was cool about it. Good luck.

I suffered with various UTI's most of my life. Bladder and kidney infections were a fact of life and I had one every month it seemed. My mom suffered the same fate before me. Mom and I are kinda health freaks, she's into natural greens, juicing etc, a very low carber, and me a dirty carnivore (grin). She started taking a natural supplement a couple years ago, and I just followed her progress and took note.

My bladder and kidney issues were getting so bad that the antibiotics that usually knocked it out, were barely working for me anymore. I would have lingering effects that showed up when I drank booze, smoked too much, whatever. Mostly when I drank. Lower back pain, pelvic cramps etc.

I'm thrilled that mom has been UTI free for 2 years, and I have started taking this supplement. Its a simple sugar that comes from birch. The sugar thing didn't make me happy as I'm sugar free, but a test from my doctor showed no blood sugar spike. Its called D-Mannose, you can find lots of great info on it online.

The bottle says take 3 to 4 a day 3 times a day. (Holy Shiz) But my mom takes one in the morning and one at night as a preventative measure. Its working for her, and so far so good for me.

I've also been taking pure apple cider vinegar 3 times a day to lose the last stubborn 20 lbs, (lost 3 this week), and I didn't work out at all haha...sweet! I actually started taking it initially to ease bad fibroid symptoms and to hopefully shrink them. They are a major pain in the ass. Was thrilled to note zero breast tenderness during period, and virtually no PMS. Nice bonuses.

I study natural remedies and really enjoy meeting and talking to people who have used nutrition and natural methods to cure themselves. Most of what I have learned comes from other peoples experiences. There's hope for us all yet eh?

Yes drinking affects your kidney and your liver. After years of drinking your kidneys will get to the point where they can't take anymore. You will start to notice swelling of the feet as well. Water is a good start, but a much more important regiment to start is cranberry juice and a liver cleanse. Take some milk whistle along with a good detox like an ionic foot bath. It is very important to preserve your beauty in this business.

I had the worst kidney infection in college due to drinking to many sodas.

If I drink hard alcohol my kidneys hurt.

Now, I drink plenty of water. Sometimes I add a bit of cranberry juice to my water. I NEVER drink sodas or hard alcohol. If I do drink it is beer or wine. Now, I can't even stand the taste of hard alcohol drinks.

Soda is way worse for the body than people realize. And the carbonation oxidizes the bones if I remember correctly.
