    Default Cover up tattoo...

ok so im an idiot and had my ex's initials tattooed on me, (i was still a bit drunk from the night before and was in the throes of showing him how much i loved him! HA!)

WELL....now we have split up (haha even more) and i need a cover up tattoo, something un-offensive but that means something to me, if i was to have something that signified our relationship then id have to have a thousand girls tatttooed all over me and cheater cheater cheater skribbled on my tummy (i am still quite sore from the split!) But i want something that is positive, like a looking forward signal...only things i can think of is like a phoenix?? (and im not keen on birds!) i have a pink butterfly (about inch and a half long) next to it. Anyone have any ideas?

I dont really want to have it covered cause it sorta feels like he's close to me still but i know i need it gone to aid the healing, dont want to get something ill regret tho..

im rambling! I havent been to sleep for a while so my brain is going mushy

    xx

if you dont WANT to cover it and it doesnt both you, dont!

i have my husbands name below my belly button and frankly even if we did ever split i would never cover it.

The thing about cover ups is they need to be DARK, usually. So whatever you end up picking keep in mind it does need to be dark/solid enough to cover whats there now.
Its hard to say without seeing a pic of your tattoo...
The big purple rose on my arm is a cover up and you would NEVER know. Just gotta find someone who is good at cover ups. Be picky with your artist.

A cover up always involves compromise. Just because you like a design does not mean that it will work for a cover up. There is also a specific color hierarchy used in designing tattoo cover ups, with blue being at the top (best) and red/yellow at the bottom (worst). You need to plan around this hierarchy.

There are two components to a successful cover up. First is technical, which is the actual application of the inks in a way that will degrade the intensity of the tattoo that is to be covered. Second component is visual, ie the new tattoo has to be so interesting to look at that even if some of the old tattoo shows through the viewer's eye will want to ignore it in favor of the new work. You have to make sure your artist can handle both aspects.

Designs that work especially well for coverups are things that are based on organic shapes and patterns, that have a high visual recognition factor, like flowers that have complex structure, anything that has eyes in it (ie. masks, animals, etc), or anything with a fractal repetition in it.

Also consider laser as an option to get rid of the old tattoo.

I second flowers. They're very easy to alter so the dark lines and parts effectively cover the old tattoo. That would also make sense to have next to a butterfly!
