Thread: Birth Control

    Smiley Birth Control

I no longer need birth control because I have gone into menopause. When I did use it I used the diaphram and condoms.

If I did not happen to have my diaphram I would not have sex. Not having it on me kept me from impulsive sex. I did not take it with me unless I was traveling.

I tried to use other forms of birth control before settling on the diaphram. I had all the major side effects from the pill and got pregnant with the womb implant for which I had to be hospitalized.

I feel that using the diaphram was a very positive experience it put me more in contact with my body. I have heard that the gel I used actually protects against HIV because it kills sperm. I am not absolutly sure of this so don't quote me on it.

The diaphram is a round shaped very thin, flexable rubber piece that covers the cervex and the gel kills sperm that approaches the cervex or mouth of the womb.

For me it made having sex easier because the gel lubed me up.

I also started tracking my ovulation cycle and began to actually feel myself ovulate. I knew I had to use my diaphram during these times. I feel like I had a much easier menopause than the women that I graduated from High School with because I did not use the pill and being a dancer of course made me much more in touch with my body.

While I traveled I was not in a relationship I did not have sex very often. I noticed that if I wanted to have sex that I wanted it more during times that I was ovulating.

I saw much pain in the women I worked with who were in relationships. The women I worked with constantly marveled over my lack of relationship. I was very happy about not having a relationship and the freedom I had. They couldn't understand how I could do it. I saw that most of them were not happy in their relationships and many of them were being ripped off by men. I tried back then to talk to them about natural birth control and that I felt that the pill was dangerous back then and actually contributed to their misery with men.

It does not seem to be general knowledge that women have practiced birth control since the begining of time.

The health care system acs like they invented birth control and that abortion is new. Abortion has been practiced since the beginging of time too. Abortion is safer now but it did not start in the last century when they made it a constitutional right to have one in the USA.

Personally I perfer more earthy treatments to my body. To me it seems that the modern day birth control is designed to make women less aware of their body. It is so natural to be aware of the body and it's functions for women. I can't hardly believe that women actually believe that they cannot know or trust their ovulation cycle. Your period tells you much about your health.

The pill makes your body think it is pregnant. This is why it makes many women gain weight to use it. If you are on the pill and are overweight you might want to explore birth control alternatives.

Many ladies here may not have had quality sexual education or done their own research, so I'd like to add some context:

    Diaphragms + Gel

    (1) "Typical use, which is the average way diaphragms are used, has a failure rate of approximately 18 - 20%. This means that 18 to 20 people out of every 100 will become pregnant during the first year of use. "

    (2) Spermicide gel INCREASES the risk of HIV infection.

"Frequent use of Nonoxynol-9 increases a woman's risk of HIV-1 infection by causing lesions in the vaginal wall," says Lut Van Damme, whose research team at the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp, Belgium, carried out the study of African sex workers.

Ladies, please do your research and stay safe.

Quick summary for STDs: use a condom. Prevents HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea. Not great protection from herpes or warts (HPV). Don't ever receive anal sex bareback unless you are monogamous and both test HIV-.

I prefer my IUD. I don't have to worry about it at all, and I'm in a committed, monogamous relationship and I don't sleep around (I seriously don't see the appeal in it, even if I were single) so it's perfect for me!
