    Default Braided babes; dreaded divas...help!!!

Long story short, I have waist length long wavy hair and I have been considering a drastic new style...either micro braids or micro dreads (not sure if this is the correct term for thin dreads, but tis all I could come up with.

The braids will not be permenant of course because unlike dreads, you can unbraid them and go back to your natural style. The dreads would be permenant, and I do not want dread extensions.

I am very nervous about DREADIN for two reasons 1) dreads actually seem very high maintenance and take alot of care and time and 2) I don't want to lose alot of length because I have been growing my hair out for nearly 6 years, so I have decided braids first!

I just want a change, so I am thinking of having micro braids done on my natural hair but with a professional for the time being. It would give me the look and feel of dreads without the commitment. I can see how much length I would lose, and I can always remove them if I do not like them.
I have always loved the look of dreads and braids, but have never gotten them done.

Has anyone with white girl hair had micro braids done? How much length did you use? How long could you keep the braids in? Did this style do damage to your hair? I have so many questions and I am sure there will be many more where this came from, but this is a good start!

Id love to hear from all of my braided babes and dreaded divas! TY in advance for ur replies

The thin dreads are sister locks.

I'm a pro with getting micros, but my hair is not the same as yours, I can't see much difference but I don't want to give misinformation.

Will you be braiding your own hair or adding extensions?

PM Questella. She's "white" & had had dreads with blonde hair for a long time. She's not on here much though, but a PM will probably notify her e-mail that she has a message.

Never had braids but I have dreads. I'm white and have (dyed) blonde hair.
My dreads are not as thin as the sister locks. Sister locks look f'ing awesome, but I've never seen them on "white" hair and not sure if you could get them. I believe they are quite expensive as well.
Dreads are fun. Once they are "locked" they are very little maintenance. Being somewhat messy is part of the look though...with roots and some loose hair, this is unavoidable. I started out wanting very thin dreads, but over the past year or two have combined most of them; I've converted to LOVING the look of chunkier dreads. Mine are pretty well maintained (most of the "hippies" with dreads would say mine are overmaintaned) but still have crazy looking days. From my experience, very long thin dreads can become brittle with time.
I absolutely love mine though, and if you have the patience to commit to the time (it takes at LEAST a few months to look "normal" dready), then I say go for it! I make good money with my dreads.

I think in the end, whatever you decide, as long as you rock the look and exude confidence and sexiness, dudes are gonna be helpless :-D Whether you keep your hair straight, go for the braids or the dreads, rock that ish! <3

Just came in to say that dreads aren't permanent. You can take them down. It just takes a lot of patience........ and conditioner.

I havent committed to braids or dreads yet, but I have looked up TONS of info on sisterlocks! They do look absolutely gorgeous, just the look I am going for, but I am not sure if it will work out on my hair.

Although I am white, I shouldnt have called my hair white-girl hair necessairily. I have a Jewish heritage and our hair is coarse, thick and often wavy or curly. My hair is very THICK and WAVY naturally with S curls. I must care for it like african american hair, as the waves and kinks make my hair get very dry naturally. I use a sulfate free shampoo once a week to cleanse my scalp, but I conditioner-wash the rest of the time, about 3 times a week. This method is not the best for all hair types, but my waves really need the extra moisture. My scalp does not get oily anymore due to co-washing and using a sulfate free shampoo. Regarding locking, I dont think this will be a problem, becasue my hair is not fine and straight, but it looks like it will take hours to get those thin sisterlocks. I will let u ladies know if I go for it and will post before and after pics if I do!

I think braids look really nice. I had a (white) art teacher with long braided hair like that:
