    Default Question about NOLA Cops?

I was wondering if any of you girls working on Bourbon Street have had a problem with police officers? Usually they are fine but I've had one particular cop that has tried to kick me off the street several times. He likes to imply that I'm a prostitute - I'm not. I try to walk home on Bourbon st. on the week days because it is safer. I live in the French Quarter so it's convenient. I was just curious if anyone else has experienced this.

The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

This cop has harassed me 3 different times. One time a guy and girl were attempting to mug me - the cop threatened to arrest me! When a door guy at one of the clubs I worked at tried to stand up for me he was threatened with arrest too. Two kind gentle man saw what happened and escorted me home that night. Most recently I went to check out the clubs and see if any where busy. In the process of walking from Rick's to De ja vu I had a group of tourist (male and female) stop me. I was talking to the one girl and also giving them advice about places to hangout. The cop pulls up on his golf cart and calls me over.
He demanded that I get off Bourbon st. I live in the quarter and have every right to walk the safest way home. I tried to explain that. He didn't care.
Then I walked across the street and bought my stripper shoes that I really needed. The cop actually waited there for me for a few minutes. I was freaked out. I went to Rick's because I was passing by and I really didn't want the cop to follow me all the way down Bourbon where it gets more deserted. I went inside ready to buy a drink and then go down Royal to get home. No such luck. I guess he saw me since he barged in past everyone and told me I had to leave. I went outside peacefully - I wasn't going to cause a scene. I ended up in jail because of that. It really has made me feel unsafe in this city.
    Thank you for replying!

I can't do anything until I go to court. Yeah it was the same cop. When I was in Orleans Parish Prison after he arrested me so many women knew who he was. He is a menace to strippers. We have to worry about guys but to have to deal with bad cops too thats insane.

Be very very fucking careful. Ive got a story that would make your hair stand on end but I dont want to post it 'cause I worry about retaliation. I go down Bourbon after work as well, 'cause I know people that work in bars up and down the street I can jump into if someones following me. I take great pains to not look like a stripper after work, dressing down and putting my hair in a bun. A cop Im friendly with told me to carry picture ID on me at all times and proof of where I work (I use my house fee receipts that state the club name for that) Put a friends name in your cell phone on speed dial and call it and leave the line open if this cop confronts you. Try not to talk back or give him any attitude, unfortunately that seems to be an arrestable offense around here. There actually are some good guys working in the 8th district, they're not all crazy, I swear.
I know this sounds paranoid, but....

Thanks for responding! I know most cops are really nice in the 8th district. I never had a problem except with this one particular cop. Before I got arrested I listened to him and got off the street. I moved (still in the quarter) and I'm farther from work now so I want to stay safe. I dress down, I don't even wear that much makeup to work. I've heard rumors about this guy - none flattering. I'm going to be doing my own thing on the holidays so I won't even be on Bourbon for a while. I don't know why he would think I was a prostitute. I'm not. I usually keep to myself when I'm going home.
I want my court date to be over. I'm actually afraid of this cop - he was rough and he seems to have some issues. I'm just steering clear. I'm terrified of retaliation. It is scary.

Sorry you are going through this. Very scary situation. I think it would be wise to get in contact with a lawyer, explain your situation, and have him/her with you on your court date. You don't want to have to pay money or have anything on your record for this asshole. You have proof that you are employed on Bourbon St. You are a French Quarter resident. You were obviously going to and from your place of business. It is just absurd that he would even dare to harrass you!

If you choose to file a complaint follow the format that is posted on the website below. Good luck!

    Citizen Complaint Procedure

    Filing a Complaint

    CALL: (504)658-6800

WRITE: Commander, Public Integrity Bureau 118 North Rocheblave St., New Orleans, LA. 70119

VISIT: P.I.B. Office, 118 North Rocheblave St., New Orleans, LA 70119

Office hours are 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. After business hours, weekends and holidays call the Public Integrity Bureau at (504)658-6800. If you have an emergency after hours, call (504)821-2222 and request to speak to a ranking New Orleans Police Officer.

I do have a lawyer. I really appreciate that info. Once my case is dismissed I plan on filing complaints. The same cop kicked two girls off Bourbon the same night I was arrested. They ended getting attacked at a seedy club. The one girl fought them off, her shirt was ripped and everything. They both ended up in jail with me the guys who attacked them got off free. Banishing girls to deserted side streets puts them in danger.

Wow, that is terrible. Most of the cops that work Bourbon St. seem pretty cool to me, but then again, I don't go down there too often... there was one male cop in particular that seemed to stick close to Big Daddy's and just stare--either because he's a weird perv hoping to catch a glimpse, or the dude had some moral-high-ground-Jesus-complex who seemed to have a real problem with the clubs on Bourbon and the girls who work there.

As for what you said about him letting the creep who made the assault, that doesn't surprise me too much--Nola has a lot of corruption and BS in the police force, especially the 8th...

If it's the same cop report him to the station. Get an attorney if you can. All you need is a description.

It's awesome that you're following through with filing a formal complaint. Thank you!

Do you feel comfortable posting a description of this cop? I haven't had this particular problem, but it'd be nice to know who to watch for.

My lawyer said I can't publish his name on any site (I wouldn't do that anyway - I want to do everything right). But I can give you a description. He is a heavy, baldish I think with a large head (when his hat isn't on), He rides around in the golf cart type police mini car thing on Bourbon st. If you want more info or if you know anyone that has had a similar problem let me know.

According to the above article, a cop should not be able to arrest you for a bullshit charge such as disturbing the peace or drunk in public. Unfortunately, I already know they pay this no mind...
