If you host on wordpress - on their servers for a free starter site , You risk being closed down - I know, because I was.

I now have my own server set up . If anyone wants 100% adult hosting they're quite willing to take a re-seller package from me for a cut price . Pm me for information on that !

WHOIS will show your personal details if you don't have privacy protection on your domain -
If you want to keep your home address and real name ( or at least those on the car used to purchase the domain ) then it's advisable .

Chanel, I'd advise against .info... you want a .com since those are the only things folks can remember, especially in conjunction with a name.

Actually I would recommend that you purchase the .com .net .org .biz and .info just in case your site becomes popular. You wont need to try and wrestle it any from someone that stole it out from under you.

    Interesting!

Is that just to prevent someone else from being popular with your domain name?

I know it's good for seo, but ... now I'm scared! tee-hee. *off to google*

.com, .info, & the rest are simply "Top Level Domain" extensions, which are overseen by Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). There used to be a number of laws on who could have what type of extensions, but now that is pretty much non-existent with the exception of sponsored top level domains (sTLDs) such as .gov (official US government websites) & 12 others. Basically in that instance the sponsor is paying to have the domain extensions maintained by the Internet Names & Numbers Authority (IANA). A few countries restrict their domains extensions to citizens or businesses of thier country such as Sweden & France. Certain places among the world such as the island of Tuvalu (.tv), have been able to profit by selling to non-citizens looking for a vanity extension, which in the case of Tuvalu is the television industry which prefers the .tv extension.

PornLaw is correct about registering all the extensions for your domain name that you can. People & companies often buy up domains with various extensions to post either knock-off products/services, post slander, or sometimes for fan websites. Other buyers will purchase the other domain extensions to "squat" on, meaning they don't do anything with it, but the minute someone wants to buy it that insist of being paid thousands of dollars. If you don't want people looking for you to get confused then it is better to buy all of the domain extensions & then automatically forward them to your active domain, so for example when someone types YourName.net the site takes them to YourName.com.

EVERY website has WhoIs information attached to it, which includes the registrar, domain host, ip address, & webmaster/website owner. For privacy reasons you can purchase a "hidden WhoIs", "private whois", "private domain registration" which means that your webmaster/website owner details are not included when people look-up the details of a website. Often if you purchase a "hidden WhoIs" then your details will be replaced with the details of your website registrar. Here's an example:

WhoIs information for a personal domain:
    http://compexplorer.com/wp-content/u.../11/public.jpg

WhoIs information for a personal domain with HIDDEN WHOIS
    http://compexplorer.com/wp-content/u...11/private.jpg

(Note: the owner of these images has a blog entry about privacy at: http://www.compexplorer.com/hosting/...r-own-privacy/)

There are a few things to keep in mind before purchasing a domain with a "hidden whois" service. First, your "hidden whois" registration can be different than your domain registration. If you register your domain for 3 years, but your "hidden whois" for only 1 or 2 years, then you risk your personal details being disclosed to the public via a whois search. Second, many web registrars become the domain owners when you purchase the "hidden whois". Basically, you give the money to the registrar to buy the domain, & then you pay the another registrar a second fee basically to lease the domain name back from them... so if you ever want to switch registrars they could hold your domain "hostage". Not all registrars lease back, for example I have owned my domain for years & my registrar specifically states in the FAQ section that domain owners who purchase the "hidden whois" remain the official website owner. Third, if someone wants to purchase the domain or needs to contact you, but you have a "hidden whois", then you are depending on your web registrar to be trust worthy enough to forward any e-mails & snail mail. With all of that being said, if you can find a registrar where you remain the owner of your domain, I think it's EXTREMELY important that performers use the "hidden whois" option to avoid potential stalkers, predators, & overly zealous fans.

Just talked to my partner and tech guy... Looks like we will be able to offer the $9.99 pricing special for solo/independent girl websites ! He is working on the back end of it now.

We will just have to do a quick site review before approval.

I will PM you with our hosting site - We don't have an editor attached - for the simple reason it wasn't worth paying a commercial license when I can make my own sites on dreamweaver and wordpress ---- But if there's interest in people wanting to use a system where the hosting and editing is done through us , I can look into a license for a site builder .

I've installed wordpress for a couple of girl friends who use my hosting - it's a 5 min job , and wordpress is very user friendly (and free ) .

For girls who are under your hosting... do you charge a fee? or do you "affiliate" yourself to their website?

^^^ Sounds like its a fee since she used the term re-seller package. That's like what I do. I have server space & a hosting account to re-sell packages with. When I login from the main account I go to the Web Host Manager tools where multiple websites are listed. From there I can set-up hosting packages with prices & server space allocation, set primary account users, change passwords, decide how much email space they get, etc. Then the client has access to their own cPanel for managing their own domain settings.

It takes a certain amount of work to get it done so there would have to be enough interest. Quite honestly we think $29.99 is downright is a steal for a website but I can see how for an independent solo girl that might be a bit much.

Let me know if you are interested in signing up and if there's enough interest I will take it to my partners and get it done.
I know this is an old thread, but I just tried to load the 2257safe.com site and it would not open. Is this still available? Thanks.
