    Exclamation Matching tattoos too soon?

I suggested we get matching tattoos for our birthdays (which are on Monday and Tuesday)
He balked and said he wants to wait. He's told me that he loves me more than any other girl he has ever been with and that he wants to marry me.
I'm sitting here sulking and he's on the other computer. Is it too soon. asking for opinions so I won't knock anyone for honesty.

You've been with him less than a year; yes. Just my opinion.

Too soon tempest. Wait and do it for an official engagment gift or wedding gift to eachother in a few years.

I personally dont think matching tattoos is a big deal. Names... now that is a bit of a problem. If you would be cool with breaking up and still knowing you have a tattoo that reminds you of him, then go for it. If you can't imagine that, then don't.

Both of your deathbeds would be too soon for matching tattoos. I'm sorry but a girl even suggesting something like that would send me running for the hills.

The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

5 months is way too early. Personally, if I was going to get a tattoo I'd wait until marriage. What if you break up? I don't have plans to get tattoos (and don't date guys that have tattoos) but this is what I would do if I wanted to do this.

It pretty much depends on what it is!! I would never tattoo a partner's name on someone - its known as a bit of a curse! If its an image - its a sweet idea, but I would definitely leave it until you are engaged or married! Just because it IS a pretty big commitment...
Personally, I'm not a huge fan of matching tattoos - but you could always get something that reminds you of him and vice versa that isn't identical, and that you would both like to have individually, even if the worst happened and it didn't work out...I'm adding a pink fluffy bunny to my leg and tattooing my bf with a little blue bunny somewhere - its an inside joke, and because I already have the girliest leg work in the world planned, and we're adding his in to some other stuff as well, its not that big a deal..
I take cash, debit or credit. I just don't take shit.

why rush things? and certainly dont sulk if he doesnt want a permanent mark. it is his body and you shouldnt feel offended by what he does or does not want to put on it.... IMO it seems like its too soon for you guys to even be talking about marriage at all...

also, permanence aside, has it ever occurred to you that he might think matching tattoos are lame? i dont like the whole matching people in general. i remember when i was a kid my mom used to make my sister and i wear matching dresses on holidays and i absolutely HATED it. i think i would feel the same way about matching tattoos regardless about how i felt about the other person who would get one. i would just feel like it was a lame idea.

    just my 2 cents.

Dammit...there goes my idea of us getting matching dragons..

Anything less than 5 yrs or so is WAAAAY to soon. I am a commitment-phobe tho, so keep that in mind. lol Srsly tho, matching tats are lame. You are way to original to go that route. Do complimentary tats or something. I'm not cool enough to give ideas, but even I'm cooler than matching tats. hehe

Why not get tattoos that remind your of each other. So they're not matching, but they still have meaning to the relationship?

How can you find anyone without a tattoo these days? Not in the clubs, not for a long time, with very rare exceptions.

I am one of the very few people in the business I've seen without one. I was thinking of getting one for years, but now I think not, I'd feel like a conformist.

That's kinda the same thing though. I don't see how tattoos are even in the equation short of a 25th wedding anniversary or something equally big like that.

It really is more rare for guys to not have tattoos these days.

It's crazy that I'm covered, and everyone is really surprised to find out that my husband doesn't have a single tattoo.

I think though, he's going to finally break down and get one after this baby is born. Get one with both kid's names. He's talking about it, but I dunno if he'll actually go through with it.
