I admit to being a cheapass... I paint my nails myself with the same black polish I've been using for the past 15 years, and I dye my hair with the same revlon 2.99 jet black colorsilk that I have used for the same amount of time.
Any DIY'ers here?

I would probably rather spend a year in a third world country than go without my hair stylist for years - she's like my personal beauty hero!
I will sometimes do my own pedicures. For being a girl who never used to get these I have become insanely picky. My ex took me to a place that was nice for my first one, but then I started going to the top salon in Denver - partly because it was close to my work. Pedicures started at $50 & I would easily shell out $75-$100 depending on the type of pedicure I wanted. The lady that did my pedicures there was SPECTACULAR, & I always left with perfectly smooth feet. Now I like a lot further away though. I've been to a good 15-20 nail salons since & they don't even compare. I found the products online that the lady at the old salon used on me, & now if I need to do the whole feet scrubbing I will do that at home because I can't find anybody now who knows how to do it that well. I will sometimes still go in & soak my feet at my regular nail salon, but I don't even bother to ask them to do the whole pedicure, normally I will do it at home & then have the nail salon paint them. If I'm in a big rush though, or don't really "need" to be pretty, I will paint them with a french pedicure myself.
I'm also horrible about refusing to pay for just about anything that I can make myself - particularly if it revolves around sewing or crafts. I'm busy, but not so busy that I can't save myself the money to have things exactly how I want them.

Sewed my own hair extensions... Bought my 2nd pair done though (ended up being same price, since I got a deal)
I use some of my home clothes for my stripper gear (sock, thongs, etc)
I started doing my own facials and making my own mild chemical peels! Which I am sooo happy about. I know I wont get the same results with a mild 11% CP or facial as when a professional nor the comfy bed with smoothing music, but I save a ton and Im still happy. I just need to learn how to extact blackheads!
When Im not working, I do my own nails (if I ever feel like adding color) with the basics soak, scrub etc, and use clear or very nerutal nail polish as I cannot paint them nicely at all!

My last apartment was 80% furnished by stuff I found on the side of the road. It was nice stuff too. Couches, barstools, dressers, shelving units, televisionsz, entertainment stand, bed frame, desk.... For myself and my brother. I make a lot of stuff - sand it, paint it.
I sew. I hate buying things like pillowcases.... I can make them for a dollar - why would I spend 15 for a pack of two? Curtians, aprons, dresses....
I'm good at makng inexpensive homecooked meals, boxed lunches instead of eating out...I can be super frugal if need be.
Although I confess to liking things like penis and men*, gym memberships, and new clothes/makeup. I figure in this industry a little pampering is alright as long ad I save a lot too.
I'm with you.
****that was supposed to say 'pedi's and mani's but my iPhone auto corrected it for me. It's still true the way it is so I've decided to leave it. Lol.
diy'er here too! i dyed my hair blue-black for about two years and i just bleached all that shit out about a month ago myself without damaging my hair (yay!). now it's a really pretty cherry redoh and i also do my nails and facials myself too. thank god for sally's and ulta.

excellent idea. and dont worry about the students not doing a good job, they usually do just as good as anyone else in my experience.
i dont tan...i rock the super fair skinso i guess i save money that way
as for the nails...i buy the glue on kind from the store (just recently started this) - honestly the only reason i put on fake nails is bc I cant paint my real nails for shit![]()

I go get a mani/pedi maybe once a month, every two months, when I work. Just to clean up my cuticles and such. Otherwise I do my nails at home.
I get my eyebrows threaded once a month, and pluck the rest of the time.
I will shell out for my hair though-highlights and cut.
I don't tan, I do my own makeup. Ill cook at home most of the time rather than go out to eat.
My only thing is I wish I could sew and was more artsy-craftsy, but alas, I am not, and so I do pay for all my clothes and linens and crafty things. But, rather than go out and buy something new when say, a shoe breaks (even stripper shoes) or I get a tear in something, I will take it to an alterations person.

I'm the world's BIGGEST cheapskate... whenever I see something I want in at the mall, I look it up on eBay using my phone, and since it's almost always 10X cheaper I just buy it online while I'm actually AT the store.
I do my own mani-pedis- worthwhile skill to learn and saves me $100 per month if not more!
Also dye my own hair with Wal-Mart herbal essences, a nice slutty white-blonde for 3.99 every 3 weeks, and learned to cut my hair on my own- total savings of about $35-$70 a month.
And I tan on my own, thanks to my Wal-Mart shopping. $10 per bottle if I feel like splurging.
I also got an epilator and some home bikini waxing kits, so there's some major cash saved right there. It SUCKED at first, but once I got used to it it became really easy.
The only thing I really spend on is eating out, and that's usually just $15-$30 on Japanese. I'd also consider a gym membership worth the investment and will probably do that soon if I can find one with a non-evil membership contract.
I'm a cheapass too. Funny thing is, I LOOK like I spend money compared to a lot of the girls at my club. The only thing I spend money on is tanning and my nails, I get them done twice a month (but only pay 20 bucks each time). I dye my hair myself, I made my own extensions, I don't do pedis, waxing, or facials. Just paint my toes myself, pluck my brows and wash my face. However, doing your own facials sounds really cool!

I'm definitely a cheap-o too.
I'll dye my own hair. I've bleached my own hair (fucked it up bad..LoL)
I've bought stripper shoes from Savers (a thrift store before.)
When shoes have broke, I've super glued them, tied them with rubber bands. lmao
Used safety pins to fix clothes.
Alter my own clothes.
I've freaking used eyeshadow as blush before lmao
Sewing my own clips to make my own extensions.
the list goes on an on and on..lol

i do my own nails and hair. the funny thing is people still think my nails are fake and i must spend a ton on them (they are long and insanely strong and grow in the perfect shape by themselves)
i love having my hair done at the salon, as the color i want does not come in a bottle, but, $100 for hair coloring is insane.
I don't tan, so no money spent there. Any stripper gear I had was either gifts I got or stuff that was on clearance. I refused to spend a ton of money on it.

I dye my own hair and do my own mani's and pedi's, which saves me a ton of money. I use professional hair dye & hair products, but I get them discounted because I'm in cosmetology school.
Self-tanner is my biggest expense. The one I buy is about $30 and it doesn't last very long... meh. Gotta find something better.
Oh! And I do my own eyebrows with an eyebrow razor. I have to touch them up every other day, but it takes about 5 seconds, and they look perfect.
I'm a DIYer too, but not a cheap ass. I've been bleaching my own hair for 22 years, do all my own mani/pedi, and pretty much the only service I pay for is a haircut. I use really nice products though. Joico on my hair, China glaze or opi on my nails, I use a really expensive glycolic line on my face and alternate it with another expensive organic line. So yeah, I do every thing myself except cut my own hair, but I like nice stuff. You cant be a cheap ass if you bleach your hair. Well, you can, but your hair will look worse than awful.

My best friend and her husband outfitted their whole apartment with things they bought second hand off Craigslist, and they did a beautiful job. So many of the things on CL are in fantastic condition, but the owners bought new stuff so they just want to get rid of the old stuff as fast as possible without having to hire a truck and take it somewhere themselves. I love CL finds! Especially awesome if you or someone you know has a truck and can go pick up furniture yourselves.

When I read that I was wondering how your fondness of 'penis and men' related to expenditure. Male escorts once a month?
I've tried the whole spectrum of hair colouring, including Aveda organic colour at one of Sydney's top salons, and professional semi-permanent at-home kits from Hairhouse Warehouse, but the cheapest is the best. I dye my mousy brown a dark chocolate with Clairol, which is AUD $7, or less on sale. It lasts months and looks perfect. My hair is in great condition, too.
I've neve rhad a professional mani or pedi, was considering getting at least a pedi as my feet were getting gross, but decided to get all the tools I needed from the Chemist. I already had some nice nail polish, so I can do a dozen or so for less than the cost of one professional. And if I take the 30 minutes or so to tidy it all up properly and do a neat polish job, it looks absolutely fine, especially for stripping in a dark club. THough I imagine I'd be spoiled if I ever got a professional job done.
My last Brazillian was super expensive, left ingrowns and general red bumps, and a lot (not just a few strays) grew back after 5 days. I have sensitive skin so I usually avoid shaving, but I was pissed off at my waxing results, so I've been shaving very very carefully and it's not perfect but good enough. I use a layer or Lucas Pawpaw ointment, plus teatree moisturiser to shave, then the teatree moisturiser again after my shower. It looks okay unless I chafe and sweat too much... still working out how to manage sexy time with this.![]()

Me:
-I do my own hair and makeup
-I dance extra hours at home to save money on gas 'cause I don't like to drive to the gym
-I buy cheap hair products
-I buy makeup in bulks
-If one of my outfits breaks, I'd sew it back together
-I use nair on my face, and razors everywhere else
-I cut my own bangs
-I use cheap boot socks
-I take off my makeup with conditioner
-I cut my nails and use clear polish
-I go to the beach to get a tan (is across the street from my place). In winter I stay pale.
I guess I'm very cheap, but I can rock the cheap look with a big smile on my face and prescription emo glasses.

I love the beauty school! I actually go to a beauty "academy", so it's a high end beauty school but still $15 for a great haircut isn't bad. Also, I reference friends as much as possible so I can get $5 off.
Also using baking soda and vinegar to wash my hair (sounds weird, but it's actually really good for your hair) has probably saved me a couple hundred dollars over the years.

No way I drop a couple of hundred a year on regular shampoo AND conditioner. Mind you, I'm not buying KMS or Matrix etc. I just get mid-to-upper range of what you can find at the pharmacy and only when they're half price or near that.
I tried the baking soda and whole no poo thing but my hair still looked dirty. Do you use a conditioner or some sort of alternative as well?

I just adjusted the amounts until I found the perfect combo for my hair. I spray leave-in conditioner in my hair when I get out of the shower. I feel like normal conditioner makes my hair feel so heavy, and the leave-in is still light and gets rid of any frizz.
And I mean "over the years"... I'm not spending $200/year on shampoo. I'm going to fix that typo...![]()

Ah, thanks, I'll try playing around with quantities. You've inspired me to try it again over the holiday period. When I'm working I can't really afford to experiment.

Oh yeah I also add a couple drops of tea tree oil to the baking soda mix. It gets rid of any dead skin or dandruff.

I DIY my own hair-have gone to high end salons and beauty schools and have good results and scary results with both, and since Im only dying it from medium/dark brown to black, I just do it myself...with the cheap revlon dye
I used to use la mer, but found Nivea cold cream (come in $.99 blue tins and can be found at the walmart checkout, with all the other random stuff)
One girl told me she uses headbands-like goody's brand or something from walmart, instead of official garters. its like 5 dollars for a pack of them
she also made her own legwarmers from clothes at goodwill
she said she removes her eye makeup with lotion instead of makeup wipes, because its cheaper that way
