No.
When I first started that weren't any resources online for how to become a stripper, the famous Stripper FAQ website did not yet exist, nor did EDC, SW, or EDN. The first two sites popped up later, & were very useful to me in having great mentors that to this day I still attribute to my success in the industry, & a few whom I'm still in contact with.
However, because those sites didn't exist I literally didn't even know that stores existed for the sole purpose to sell dance clothes & shoes. By that time though I already wore heels all the time & had a number of skimpy outfits in my closet, so I just put them into an old beach bag & off I went.
The rest is history!

No-but I work in a dive bar. We don't wear gowns and pretty much can wear whatever we want but I try to look cute (not doing the payless heels or anything but i dont want to be like every girl in my club and wear the standard bikini top and bottom), so my outfits are a mix of stripper stores, fredericks, and victorias secret. Surprisingly enough, the outfits I get the most compliments on from custies are from victorias secret.
I rush at the independant costumers that come into clubs. If you want something that not every other girl is wearing (and probably better made) than buy from a woman who hand-makes the items and sells to you face-to-face.
All of my outfits were original, fit well, WONDERFUL fabrics, and held up. They weren't too expensive, ethier. The dressmaker I bought from usually sold her outfits between 30 and 55. Once, I asked her about a bikini's price, and she told me 15 because the girl who asked her to make it never paid and she didn't like looking at it anymore. It's my favorite outfit for webcamming now and I would've paid a lot more.
The majority of my outfits were handmade by a woman who would come in and sell her stuff on weekends. She would do custom outfits, and I have a GORGEOUS gown in dark purple that she did for me for I think $85. Fit perfectly and really suited my body type. I always banked in that gown, especially because all the other girls would be walking around with only a tiny G-string and tiny bikini top. I never got that. The more modest my outfits, the more I made. Every time. Noticeably.
When I started, I always only wore Victoria's Secret lingerie. Looking back, it was a terrible decision. I'm pretty busty, and most of the pretty VS stuff isn't really meant for anyone larger than a small C.
I've honestly never had luck with buying outfits online. The few I did buy fit terribly, or were poorly made.

I went to Marshall's last night and my boyfriend freaked out when I modeled the two outfits I bought for work for him. He seriously was like, "baby, I don't mean to come off creepy, but you will make A LOT of money in those. They're just....wow."
off only an $8 and $12 purchase. WOW. $20 and I apparently will be able to captivate audiences. I don't wear shit from stripper stores. It is A. a dime a dozen in clubs and B. wayyy too overpriced. I'd much rather get the Frederick's sale rack or the Marshall's "New Merchandise" rack....or perhaps that wedged on the very back of the rack peice that you know you will just knock em' dead in.
Marshall's girls.....Marshall's. I promise you won't regret it.
well, you might....but who gives a shit right? you tried it to see what it's all about, that's what counts!

Shoes, obviously I get em from stripper stores -_-. I'm not gonna be sporting "church shoes".

I have been an admirer of lingerie since I was about 13, couldn't wait to wear it, so I wear a lot of it to work. Bustiers, corsets, stockings, puffy little lace skirts, babydolls, and even some vintage lingerie slips I found and fixed upI think I own one outfit that I bought in a stripper store. I remember my first ever shift the manager told me when I expressed that I didn't know if my outfits would let me fit in very well, she said "baby, the more you can make yourself stand out the better!" I make a lot of my own outfits too
I make all of my outfits, that is the only real way to guarantee they are unique, i once ordered an outfit that was "custom made" and "one of a kind" the woman who made it then decided it was quite popular and decided to make more and sell them at a higher price! you should only do this if you have some skills and kowledge though or the poor quality will shine through, there is a girl who makes her own outfits at my club and they look terrible!

Most of my stuff is from stripper stores or Victoria's Secret... I guess I haven't graduated to finding my own stripper clothes on the cheap! lol. You guys have great tips!!!![]()
I make a lot of my own stuff, but I have alot of costumes from costume people too; sometimes I just can't resist something that's on thier rack.
Nope! The only "stripper" stuff I own is the shoes, everything else comes from slutty teenybopper stores or regular apparel that I made slutty (cutting a skirt into a micro-mini, wearing a shirt as a dress, etc.). My closet and lingerie drawer surprisingly had quite a few things that were club appropriate when I started dancing!
Honestly, and this is the cheapass in me, I find that most stripper stores/clothes are waaaay overpriced. I know it's only the cost of two dances, but I can't justify spending $40 on a teeny tiny skirt when I can buy a regular skirt for $10 and just cut it up. I'm very frugal with work expenses though, and rotate through the same few outfits because I do well in them.

50% - 50% I wear alot of sparkly tacky stripper bikinis .. as long as it's in my signature "stripper jenny pink" .. kind of an ongoing joke with the housemom...
I also own a fair amount of cute bra/panty sets from Marshall's and target... It doesn't really matter, I'm not really an overachiever in this department.. as long as it fits the image I aim for I'll buy it..
my new years goal is to get a bunch of outfits made especially for me. I go to pick out fabric next week! we'll see how this works.
I like to party.. So I like my Jesus to party too.

Burlington and deb have really cute shit on the cheap too.

I mostly get my stuff from the housemoms and ladies that come in to sell their stuff they make.
I've taken gambles on stuff on eBay...I'll just say, be careful haha I do have a few nice things from there. I have a few dresses from there that are big hits. I love the seller, myshoeaddiction, that's where I got my shoes. They're cheaper than in-club sellers. I tend to shy away from the women that come to my club and sell, because it's just so overpriced and I can't convince myself it's worth it. I know, girls like me will spend tons on "regular" clothes but not on clothes that make us money. I will buy thongs from them (And this lingerie store that has exotic dancer wear) because regular thongs look tacky, IMHO.
Anyway, I'd also recommend other websites such as stripperwear.com and chelseasofnewyork.com for dresses, gowns, garters, stuff like that. My favorite dresses are from those two sites. I also love lingerie, so VS and Frederick's are good (Hosierty, garter belt outfits, etc)
edit:
In my opinion, you should try and look like a fantasy girl, not like a "normal" girl. If the customers wanted a "normal" girl in "church shoes" and cheap-looking lingerie, they'd stay home with their old lady for free.

I always wear a corset, so I get them from anywhere that sells corsets!! Booty shorts - same deal...
Shoes I will always get from a stripper store, but other than that, for a lot of stuff, I find stripper stores to be over priced, and a lot of the online stuff is just so flimsy, it falls apart after a few wears. I will only buy stuff online if I know that the brand is good quality. For jewelry, there are a LOT of stores that sell the same stuff as stripper stores for half the price!
I take cash, debit or credit. I just don't take shit.
