Default Will it ever be safe in Phoenix?

From the time I was 18 up until I was 21 I worked at a club called the Great Alaskan Bush Company. It has a reputation around town as being, for lack of a better word, ghetto. However, when I worked there I made great money, great friends and had some on my best experiences dancing at this club. The staff there were constantly going above and beyond and many of them treated the dancers as if they were their little sisters.

It's been exactly a year since I've worked there. This entire year I've been missing the place like crazy and had made the resolve about a month ago that I would go back to dancing in 2011.

Well, today I got the most horrible news. There was a shooting last night. And a doorman that I considered to be a friend was shot and killed.

The night before at a club not too far down the road another doorman was shot and forced to shoot back, killing the patron.

These are just a few examples of violence and murder happening at strip clubs all around the valley... I just want to know from anyone who reads this if you think it will ever be safe to go back to work? Is it time to move onto another, safer state?

I'm just grieving, mourning, confused and really in need of any advice.

I'm sorry to hear that your friend was killed. Maybe it would be good to take a break from dancing until you feel comfortable again. Incidents like that have happened at my club too.

I can't say whether it would be okay for you to dance in Phoenix or not. Working at any strip club, because it is at night and alcohol is involved, is never going to be 100% safe. We all take a risk each time we go to work, whether we think about it or not.

I haven't worked in Phoenix for years, but when I was there I worked at Bourbon Strip. That, Hi-Liter, and Babes in Scottsdale used to be the better clubs. Christie's was said to be not too bad. That may have changed since I was there. These clubs may cater to a wealthier clientele and may be safer environments.

I worked at Baby Dolls on 35th and Grand Avenue near your Great Alaskan Bush club and a bouncer was shot there too. This was about 4 years ago.

Also Supposedly there is no $$ in Phoenix so you might be better off elsewhere.

Wow.. thats rough. Sorry to hear about your friend. Its really sad when such things happen.

I would honestly stay clear from the club.. and the area. Who knows what might happen to you? Im sure there are other clubs that carry good money... At least for now, I would lay low.

I've been in this industry for a long time, but in terms of violence towards the bouncers I couldn't tell you if it has become worse or better. The internet helps spread a lot of news these days faster, whereas before there were many stories that none of us would have ever heard of.

Personally though, I think people in & around this industry have become more aggressive... which isn't good.

I just got back into town and this happened.

The shooter lived in Scottsdale, my question is "Why was he at a club 25 miles away, when Babes and Skin are in his own neighborhood" The shooting at Chi-Chi's (which I've never heard of until this incident) apparently has some more "behind the scenes" ties to illegal trafficing/drug wars that wasn't published in the newspapers.

The ABCO shooter, according to all reports basically just snapped. Due to AZ gun laws, it's NOT illegal to carry a weapon into a bar, restaurant, or public place. It could have just as easily happened at Walmart, McDonalds, or Scottsdale Fashion Square.

The shooting at the Bush was a complete tragedy. From what I heard the shooter had been inside the bar for over an hour, then went out to his car to get his gun. He came back to the entrance where he shot a customer in the face and then turned to shoot the bouncer, then shot and wounded two more people. I think he even shot at the door girl. After he stopped shooting he laid the gun down and walked into the nude side of the club where he was tackled. He made comments that he would have shot more people had he more bullets. It sounds to me like this guy just snapped.

Just a couple of days ago we had yet another tragedy in Tucson where 6 people were killed and 13 wounded. Again,

    Violence can be anywhere....

I'm so sorry. I understand your pain. We went through some tough stuff like that at Centerfolds about 5 years ago or so... it was actually one of the factors that made me take a break from dancing, but I regret it. I worked at Hi Liter for a while after the Zanzuccis took over and I showed up one day and there was a bullet hole in the water wall. They just left it there for everyone to see... and they put up cheezy silvery stringy stuff along the previously beautiful waterwall. I imagine they've fixed it since then, but was only there for a year, went to Centerfolds, loved it and stayed. I'd "like" to say all this stuff is happening over drug wars, but I can honestly say that I know the stuff that went down at Centerfolds was NOT drug war related and it doesn't sound like that's the case at the Bush.
