I definitely agree that's unhygienic . Did you ask her to use new sticks each time? It's been forever since I've had one done so I can't remember what my salon person did. I would think the heat would kill the germs, but still-- gross. And if she's going to double dip, dang-- I'd just buy the same type of wax and do it at home as much as that would suuuuuuck. Plus it would save you money since the wax should be less than $25 and should last longer than one time. Just....ouch, it's so much easier to have someone else pull it. I'm sure someone with more knowledge than me will chime in though.

my expensive places only use one spatula once.
i dont know, wouldnt the wax be too hot for any bacteria or would i just be desirable for its breeding ground?
i never heard of anyone getting stds like this though

^shoot! Even better. You came up with a great idea, and if she acts offended, well, that's not your problem. She has two choices-- either open up a new can and use new spatulas, or have you bring in your own can of wax.

yes you can contract something. im an esthetician. double diiping is illegal in the state of texas and should be everywhere. no the heat is not hot enough to kill infection.
she needs to have either new pot or use a new wooden stick everytime,
waxing draws blood and that is getting into your open pores.

Yes, you can get something from it, although it's not common. You need to contact the state licensing board & let them know about this! The wax simply does not get hot enough to kill everything off. Some places have a large pot of wax & pour into a smaller pot of wax for individual clients, but it's better to report them to the state board to have them check it out.
Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

ALthough the wax is very hot, they should use a new stick everytime.

The heat that wax is brought to is NOT enough to kill bacteria - I am a sterile processing tech (certified, though I don't work in the field - I work in tattooing), so this is an area where I have a fair bit of knowledge! Even high temperatures need to be maintained for long periods in a vaccum to kill all pathogens (hence, sterilizers). An STD would be pretty rare, as very few of these live outside the genitals, but a simple skin infection would be very possible, and nasty!!
As was mentioned above - while it shouldn't break the skin or draw blood, waxing can do. And where there is blood, there is a risk of infection.
Ideally, you would want her to use a new stick every time, but she would have to do this for every client. Otherwise, if she is double-dipping for everyone else, bacteria from them would be in the wax, even on a new stick used just for you.
Honestly, I tend to think that you get what you pay for with personal services - this is a prime example! I wouldn't risk your health - go somewhere that has more hygenic practises.
I take cash, debit or credit. I just don't take shit.
