    Default facebook and normal jobs

can a job fire you for what you post on your facebook?

i know someone that works at a club and got fired for having pictures of dancers on his pictures page, no nudity but the breasts were "the main attraction/focus"

im not sure if the girl knew about the pics or if that was part of it

the title isnt so fitting, but oh well.

he is paid hourly and is an employee of the club and not an independent contractor like the girls would be.

    I would say yes, actually.

It does depend on the situation though - if the photos were promo-style shots, then I can't see the problem. If they were taken within the club, then I can absolutely see there being a problem - at the basic level, this guy was breaking club rules! (assuming that the club has a "no photo" rule, of course!) It could also have issues if they were not taken with the girl's permission (how pissed would you be if you were stripping in secret and photos of you on stage started popping up everywhere?) in which case it would be an issue between employees, and to do with employee harassment.

I think it sucks that employers are firing people for drunk photos and silly things on facebook, but if I was that girl, and someone took a photo without my permission and posted it in the public domain, I would be FURIOUS!!

Easy answer, set your profile to private and don't friend anyone you work with.

This. My FB is set to private. I've had prospective employers try to friend me but that's not happening. Several former coworkers are FB friends but they were people I like from work (and I trust them).

^ x3. It may not necessarily be fair, but people have definitely been terminated or not hired over things posted on their Facebook profiles. It's much smarter to a)not post anything you wouldn't want the general public to see (Facebook's privacy settings change all the time, and I'm sure there's ways around them) and b)keep your privacy levels very high and only add people you know.

You can be fired for any reason that is not based on race. Or gender/sexual preference i believe. You can get fired because the boss did not like your shoes.

I would go with the don't post anything you dont want your employer to see...there are ways to get around the privacy settings.

Social networking is an HR department's dream--it's an inside look at their employee base. My company has fired lots of folks for Facebook/Myspace/blog postings. And they'll continue to do so in the future.

Basically, people are stupid and post things they shouldn't.
