Default Smile Lines - Freaking Out!

I'm going to be 27 y/o next month, and I've started to notice fine lines developing around my mouth. I'm very animated and smile/laugh a lot, plus I have this horrible habit of biting the inside of my mouth (ew, I know), which makes the sides of my mouth wrinkle up.

I really want to do something, but I'm afraid of botox. I've had filler in my lips, but I'm afraid to get that in my smile lines, because I've heard that sometimes it makes them look too puffy (at the beginning of the day), even tho the puff goes down at the end (kind of like my lips). I don't mind this in the lips, but on a surface that's supposed to be smooth, I can't chance this.

This brings me to the topic of laser skin treatments. Does anyone have a suggestion? I want to get into the habit of doing these (or something) anyhow, as my current skin routine is lacking.

What kind of laser skin treatments do you all recommend? My current place offers:

    sciton profractional
    pearl
    titan
    laser genesis
    IPL

Also, what types of face creams do you recommend for wrinkles? I've heard to use creams w/a specific percentage of retinol for the best results.

On a final note, my skin isn't THAT bad, but I want to get into better habits, so that I can still say the same @40. Oh yes, and I wear sun screen SPF 15 everyday, so at least I suppose I have that going for me lol.

I've noticed I'm starting to develop one fine smile line. Just one! It's so weird because it's not on the other side. I think it's because I tend to half-smile a lot. Other members of my family do it too.. As far as fillers go, I dont think you should be worried about getting an injection. The kind you put in your lips and the kind that go on your face are different. I think Juvederm attracts more water than other fillers and that why it primarily goes in the lips whereas Botox, Restylane, and Dysport are used on different areas of the face.

I've never had any laser treatments so can't help you there, but if you go to your derm and get an rx for a retinol product that will definitely help smooth your skin.

Yeah I wouldnt reccomend resalynne at your age. I didnt start doing it until 36. I did do seires of ipl treatments and this worked well for me. It will definitely plump up that area, its what kept me without having to get restalynne so long. Also I would use avage a gentler version of retin a along with 30% md forte for like 3 months on, off. That works well and get monthly peels as well.

I use to go to the school by me and get glycolic peels but you can get deeper ones at a dermatologist or year ago there was a thread on here and platnium skincare I think was the site? You can get the same percentage they use in doctors offices. I think I ordered 30% it did dry my skin out a bit but it was strong. Try the ipl you should like that, though when I started a thead about it years ago I had the original ipl machine used on me created by d. bitter which worked excellent but sadly cost so much( like 100,00) most places dont use it and the cheaper machines just are not created equal. Though a high end plastic surgeons office may still have the original machine. The others are small cheaper machines that nurses can use the other a doctor has to administer by law.

Ok I ust looked it up quick. Dr bitters invented the photofacial what I had also called ipl but you want the origial photofacial machine not the little ipl. It still works but no were near as good as the original and you will need more treatments.

I got the tiniest bit of juvederm in mine and you cannot tell at all. Just looks slightly less pronounced. I think if you go to a good injector then they wont go over board. My lady just did a tiny prick close to my nose on each side from the juverderm left over from my lips.

I can't help you with the laser treatments (etc) but I remember a while ago a treatment called CACI was really popular, and it got decent results on all kinds of facial lines. Not sure if its still around, as I'm not as into the facial scene as I used to be.

On the topic of creams - retinol is definitely an ingredient that you have to have! Look for skincare systems, rather than a mix-and-match (the ingredients complement each other) and I really love the ones with a serum step, though I know some people really dislike it. And before you splash out on a really expensive treatment - research the actual studies that they are using to back up claims - some of them fall apart really easily!

Try the Dennis Gross extra strength peel at Sephora. I had some lines too and this made my skin amazing!

    1) Try AHAs and BHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids and Beta Hydroxy Acids) for exfoliation
    2) Retinoids or Retin-A (do your research; try makeupalley.com
    3) Facial Exercises ( a lot cheaper and safer than procedures and injections)
