Hi, I'm about to start dancing but I've had chronic fatigue for about 18 months. I'm 22 now. I got it after a bout of glandular (mono). I've been mostly unemployed for the past year.
I also have pre-existing depression/anxiety, which also affected how my CFS manifested what with the lethargic periods. But I just switched to Lexapro before Christmas, and my depression at least has been minimal. I'm very happy right now, even though my physical symptoms keep nipping at my ankles. These include recurrent reactive neck glands, and general lethargy.
I've been feeling energetic the past 10 days or so, but still had a few days where I've overexerted myself and felt my neck glands swelling. They react to coffee, chocolate and alcohol, all of which I've cut out, but sometimes just to a slightly stressful event, or socialising. These are a major concern, as sometimes they would get bad just from stressing about how I'd clean my room or something equally domestic.
The club where I'm starting this week has a 3 shift minimum per week. Not sure yet how long they'll be, but I'll try to do the minimum. Any other tips for not crashing? How to keep energy up during shifts (no alcohol or caffeine), how to wind down after work to get really restful sleep, any dietary, natural medicinal or exercise suggestions?
My current management plan: Pilates, yoga, or light strength and cardio a few times per week. Try to stick to healthy food, tonnes of fruit and veg, beans, some meat. For the past two weeks I've been drinking Berocca (B complex, mag, C, etc.) as I weaned off coffee, which seems to be working. I no longer miss coffee, and if I have a weak latte or a small Coke, I actually feel jittery!
My specialist recommended dairy-free in October, but I was on welfare and living with my bf. It was too stressful to organise seperate food as we mostly ate together. The idea is that if I earn decent money as a stripper I can afford better food. Going to try dairy-free again and maybe gluten-free. I've met a few people who had success with the latter. Maybe just gluten lite, cos I've got a big appetite! I made a big plate of rice, stir-fry veg, and satay chicken for dinner the other night, and was starving two hours later. Rice just doesn't fill me up like bread or pasta. I always need a sandwich after a huge Japanese dinner at a restaurant!
