Default I can see the bottoms of my implants.

Guys, I'm kinda freaking out here... a very small, just less than a centimeter part of my incision is slightly open and has been bleeding for awhile now... got silicone unders and I'm almost 4 weeks in. You can see the implant through the incision, half a centimeter of it. It looks like my skin is trying to weave itself together in the open area, but should I be freaked out? Because I really am. Should my incisions be healed by now? I really doubt they're infected, but still... the skin feels really thin.

My Doctor's office doesn't open til monday... what do I do, guys??? Is this normal? Can't find anything about it on the internet...

I dont want to worry you.. But how many days ago did you see your PS? Was it like that then? At 7 days the slit should be FULLY closed (not healed) but.. stitched in fully with no openings at all.

I really think you should call the emergency line..

Umm yeah, at four weeks your incisions should be fully healed. Mine were good to go after the first two weeks. :/ Get seen, asap babe.

    Houston ... we have a problem !

If your incision has (re)opened to the point where you can actually see the implant bag, there is a major risk that germs can enter that opening and infect your breast pocket.

The good news is that if your breast pocket hasn't yet been infected, that your doctor can reclose the incision. Typical indicators that no infection exists are that any 'discharge' from the open incision appears reddish-clear in color.

Try to keep this area as clean and germ free as you can until you get in to see your doctor on monday !!!

Thanks guys- asked some people online and they agree, it needs re-stitching! So I'm cleaning the incisions every 2 hours and holding the small open parts closed with surgical tape.
No other infections or complications so far... just gonna take it easy till monday!
Thanks so much for all your sympathy and help

...my doctor's removing my implants tomorrow as an emergency surgery... lefty appears to be infected. Haven't cried this much in years. Getting my tits back in 6. fucking. months... at least I'm not getting charged. SUCKS because it's a snowstorm tomorrow, and I'm getting trouble finding someone to drive me.
Thanks for the support! I'll get through this! It could be worse, right?

Oh, I'm so sorry for you. I've had mine 7 months now and I'm still always paranoid something's going to go wrong. What a nightmare - hang in there hun. At least you're going to get them back!! If you're anything like me and you've wanted them your whole life - what's 6 more months, right?
It sucks, but it'll be okay. Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear that your luck turned bad re infection of the breast pocket. I know that this is 'crushing' right now ... I've been there ! But here are a few things to keep in mind ...

    - something like 2% of all BA's wind up with an infected breast pocket complication. The cause can be anything from a stray germ drifting around the Operating Room, to a symptomless infection somewhere else in your body ( mine was a wisdom tooth ! ), to an overstressed incision that just decided to reopen.

    - because you caught this early, you're not having to deal with systemic infection issues ( like high fevers ) that can affect your whole body's health. Also, there probably wasn't a whole lot of tissue damage to your left breast pocket ( at least compared to an alternate scenario where the breast pocket infection was allowed to go on for several more weeks behind a closed incision ).

    - while the 6 month figure is right out of the ASPRS handbook, in purely medical terms it's possible to place new implants as soon as the infection has cleared up. So you may be talking 5 or 4 or even 3 months not 6. ( in my case it was 4 months )

    - if your incision reopening was your body's way of telling you ( and your doctor ) that your breast skin isn't highly elastic, you ( and your doctor ) may want to consider a different type of implant next time. For example, Mentor makes a post-operatively adjustable implant called the Spectrum. To ease the strain on your incisions, you could for example get a pair of 475cc rated Spectrums but only fill them to 400cc or so at the time of your next surgery. Then once your incisions are completely healed, your doctor can inject additional saline through the implant's filler valve ( hidden under the skin, usually in your armpit ) every few weeks to 450-500-550-600cc. This will greatly reduce the stress on your incisions, and as a side effect will also allow you to 'try on' different cc ratings ( although as a dancer odds are that you'll wind up going for the max ! ). Once you're happy with the size, the doctor detaches the filler valves, the implants permanently seal, and you're good to go for the next decade !

what is "over filling" as far as ccs go? I hear people talking about it but never really understood how you can overfill a breast implant.

^^^ well, to start with, every implant whether silicone or saline has an elastomer outer 'bag' to contain the saline or silicone 'filling' and give the implant its shape. Every implant bag is made to certain dimensions ... which in turn translates into a particular cc rating required to fill that bag to the point of having a 'natural' shape. However, since the bag is elastic ( a lot like a balloon with very thick walls ), it's certainly possible to put more cc's of 'filling' in the bag.

Going back to the 475cc rated Spectrum implant, with 475cc in it the implant has a 'natural' shape. With only 400cc in the same bag ( i.e. underfilled 20% ), the implant has a pancakey shape. With 570cc in the same bag ( i.e. overfilled 20% ), the implant has a firm and perky shape. With extreme amounts in the bag ( i.e. 950cc or 100% overfill ), the implant will have a very firm, round, fake, 'softball' shape.

One of the trade-offs with silicone implants is that they can only be filled at the factory. This means that the doctor must make an incision large enough to fit the pre-filled implant into the breast pocket ( as compared to a saline implant that can be put in partially filled via a much smaller incision, and then filled in the operating room before the incision is closed up ). This can potentially be problematic when a particular girl has chosen a relatively large silicone implant size versus the amount of elasticity her skin can provide.

Thanks for your support, everyone! I don't know how I would've gotten through this without your encouragement, seriously... feeling much better even though I barfed after surgery- breathing is back to normal, heart palpitations stopped, and getting some antibiotic injections today. At this point I'm just glad all the pain is over.
You're right- 6 months will fly by! Maybe I can get them even sooner if my doc says it's ok
For future reference, how can I make my skin more elastic to solve the elasticity issue beforehand?

I'm glad that everything went 'well' during yesterday's surgery ! Hang in there !

nothing that you can really do about this, unfortunately. If it IS the root cause of the problem, next time you'll either have to think about going with smaller silicone implants or with saline.

Thanks for the advice- as it turns out, the major cause was just bacteria, so everything's supposed to go alright with my skin the second time around

Also... I hate to keep this thread going for longer than necessary, but now that my implants are out, my tits are FLOPPY. Like man titties, it's really not cool at all. The doc says they'll bounce back to their original shape in a few weeks... anyone got any idea when? He's not being very specific, it sounds like anything from 2 weeks to 20.

Your doctor probably had to forcibly stretch your breast skin to try and make room for your silicone implants. If you had skin elasticity problems stretching bigger, that skin is also going to have some elasticity problems shrinking smaller.
