The ideal start to my shift is going right on stage. It gives me a chance to make my presence known and check out the crowd - along with who is checking me out! I also try and have regulars come in at the start of my shifts so that I get in a good money mood right from the get go.
Otherwise, I like to take a slow walk form the dressing room to the bar, scanning the club for any potential customers. If anyone makes eye contact or gives me the up and down, I shoot them a little smile. I pour myself a drink (we always have cups and pitchers of water at the bar for us girls), have a bit, and scan the club again. Then I move on to my first victim. I don't really see the point in disappearing right away to "look busy" because you're wasting perfectly good hustling time. I'll do that sporadically whenever the club is fairly empty later on in my shift so that I look new, but not right at the start. I like to get right into things and set the tone for the rest of my shift by selling a dance.
^Agreed. I never really feel like I am in work mode until I do a stage set.
However, if you have to wait a few sets before it's your turn, I think you should just dive in head first. Whenever I started a shift, all the other girls who were arriving would group at the bar, or stay in the dressing room until it got "busy." There might not have been a crazy amount of customers there, but all it takes is one guy to make your night. I always went around to every single available guy as soon as I was on shift. A lot of the time, even if they didn't buy a dance right then, they would later, because as the first girl to talk to them, I stuck out in their minds. Or they would come up to the stage as soon as I did my set and tip very well. And a lot of the time, they would buy dances immediately...just because YOU just got to the club, it doesn't mean they haven't been there for hours. Honestly, I frequently tended to make 80% of my money in the first hour and the last hour, because all the other girls would arrive late and leave early.

at the begining of my shift, after i check in with the dj, i always tell him to skip me one stage set so i can have a drink, scan the crowd, give hellos and hugs to friends/regulars/customers. then by the time im called to stage ive had my drink, said my hellos, im now in "stripper mode". and if someone is paying extra attention to me while im on stage, i always tell him ill be down to dance for him when i get off stage so i know i have my money lined up.
Yeah i feel awkward until i finish my first stage set. So until i get up there, i just order a drink, scan the club, and watch the girls on stage, have a smoke, walk in and out of the dressing room.. lol, just try to keep myself occupied. I feel like everyone is like this. Just smile at everyone and look like you're enjoying yourself.
In the words of Lil Wayne, "Confidence is the stain they can't wipe off"
I check in with the DJ and go to the first available guy I see.

1. Get into the Zone before you get to work. I have a free youtube video on exactly how I do it. Having the proper mindset when you walk in the door DEFINITELY helps you to focus.
2. To answer your specific questions
Should I just make an entrance on the floor and then disappear so people think I'm busy? Yes, but only if you are confident, feeling good, and in the Zone. Make your rounds with your head high. If the first round is a dud, go somewhere they can't see you and plan your next approach according to the Colors of who are in the room.
Should I stand by the bar and watch?
Is there a place you can survey the crowd without them seeing you standing there alone? You want to LOOK BUSY.
Should I plop down next to the first guy I see?
Only if he is making eye contact and waving money at you. Never "plop". Artfully approach.
Also, before I have made any money I always feel a bit desperate but once I have made some I'm fine.
This is mindset. Guys can sense when you are desperate, which is why it's soooo hard to break the downward spiral once you are in it.
Can anyone relate to this? How do you make yourself feel fabulous at the begining of your shifts before you have made any profits?
I can relate, and it's all easier said than done. I personally HAVE to work out and eat really clean on the days that I dance so I feel fit and sexy. I play my favorite pump up tunes on my way into work, and I always approach Reds and Blues first because they make decisions quicker than Greens and Yellows.

I fake it!! Half the time, I'm not feeling it, but before I leave the dressing room, I take a couple deep breaths, shake my hair back, and throw a huge smile on my face - eventually, I fake it far enough that I start to feel it!!
More specifically - I like to take a walk around the club. Walk slowly, sexily, smile at all the customers, catch eyes, and basically see whats what. I'll look for regulars first, then go back to the guy who looked the happiest to see me, or who tried to catch my eye. I tend not to go for the first guy I see, because I like to try to pick the most likely one first to get that money ball rolling (also getting a reg first, obviously!) I also find that when you are obviously striding toward the first guy in your line of sight, he doesn't feel special...when you have gone past, got him thinking of you, and then come back, it makes him feel like you chose him...
I take cash, debit or credit. I just don't take shit.

Hear me ramble about random things:

I have my spot at the ticket desk (which is around the corner of the cloakroom, in full view of the bar) that I go lean forwards on when we're having a slow start. I'm there for the customers to see as they arrive, my bum (as I purposely wiggle it) is in view of the bar, I look busy chatting to the cloakroom girls, and I'm right by the ticket till so when the customer that spotted me from the bar decides to say hi I can whisk him straight into a dance. I hover there a lot at the beginning of my shifts and it works a charm for me![]()
