Default Trying to lose a few pds WITHOUT losing my butt

I wanna lose about ten pounds. Im 5'9, and 145.
I am not fat. Nor am I skinny. I have 36 DD boobs and wear a size 8/9 jeans.
Ive always had a nice butt. Not flat, but not J Lo by any means.

Anyways, I have been doing alot of weight training and Im doin squats, lunges(w/weights) step ups/downs..
Anything else I can do to lose weight but not lose any of my butt or is it a hopeless cause??

If you're doing squats and lunges you will gain muscle on your butt and the muscle will retain memory if you keep at it!
So even if you lose weight you will be able to keep your behind shapely! I used to be a personal trainer when I quit dancing.
I suggest switching up your routines and doing other exercises like donkey kick backs.

Use lots of weight and do few repetitions; you're increasing the size of the muscle. Don't forget to increase your protein intake; egg whites and dairy are the best sources of protein when losing weight.

Yes, I do have of those "J.Lo" asses; I'm Puerto Rican too.

Fat loss is 75%+ diet. An easy way to drop weight fairly easily is to reduce carbs throughout the day. So...your first meal of the day is where you'd have most of your carbs and then go down from there. Try to eat frequent smaller "meals" throughout the day, perhaps 4 or 5...6 if you can swing it. "Meals" not in the traditional sense, just meaning you eat some food. A "meal" might be an apple and half a can of tuna.

So an example might be: Meal 1 - 3 carb portions, 1 protein. Meal 2 - 2 carb, 1 protein. Meals 3 and 4 - 1 carb, 1 protein. Meals 5 and 6 - 0 carbs, 1 protein. Sprinkle in some healthly fats throughout the day, esp. with meals 5 and 6. "Healthy" fats would be things like nuts (esp. almonds, cashews, walnuts), avocados, olives and olive oil, canola oil, natural peanut butter. Do a google search for ideas on fats. In general, fats don't make people fat. You just don't want to go overboard with fats because they tend to b more calorically dense, and excess calories from any source will be stored as fat. Sugar and processed carbs are really what to reduce and/or eliminate.

The gluteus maximus (and medius and minimus) itself is pure muscle, but the outward appearance and shape of your butt is also determined by the fat you are carrying in that area. 2 women may have the exact same amount of fat around that area and look completely different. Genetic factors determining precisely where and how this fat is carried might mean woman #1 might have a shapely, tight looking back side while #2's backside isn't nearly as tight nor shapely.

There is no such thing as spot reduction. When you start losing weight, your body is going to drop the fat from wherever it's genetically programmed to. For men, the abdominal area and lower back (i.e. love handles) is where they tend to retain their fat and that's the area where the fat is last to go when exercising and dieting. In general, the hips and butt are where females lose fat last. The ramifications of all this for you are as long as you take in adequate protein to retain muscle and continue doing exercises like squats, lunges, step-ups, etc...combined with the female predisposition to hold onto fat around the butt...means your butt likely isn't going anywhere and might actually be enhanced.

I've just noticed that the things you want to lose you don't and the things you wanna keep are the first to go. -_- Murphy's law applies to weight loss too.

It depends on how strong you are. I would do squats first in your routine...a little more heavier working with reps between 10-15. You don't want to go to heavy because of knees & lower back. Finish up with walking lunges & depending what you have done in between you may want to go with no weight or 5-10lbs dumbbells will be fine. Lunges should blow your legs up with blood from the work.

Side note....when doing your squats, if you keep a narrow stance the pressure will be on the outer sweep of your leg the farther apart your stance more inner & butt leverage you will be working.

Here are a few photos of me when I trained for a show in Vegas...not as lean but my legs are still very big.

Not a hopeless cause, but I find women who are not naturally gifted in that area use the wrong exercise choices, and or, the wrong loading (e.g., not using heavy enough weight to actually build muscle in that local...). Sounds like you are more in the latter category. See Booty Building Facts

    Good luck.
