Crossfingers broken wisdom tooth with root exposed-- treatment while holding off extraction?

My partner unfortunately shattered 1/3 of his wisdom tooth off by, of all things, chewing on a piece of food from a bakery we were eating at. He felt a crack and
then was picking at his teeth thinking he'd gotten a seed stuck back there and then
felt a bunch of grainy material give way which he swallowed (obviously the tooth fragment was part of that.)

Now, since he swallowed it, I wasn't about to suggest we bring it up with management since we couldn't prove it had happened right then and there and he hates attention---especially if management would think we were one of those fake litigious people scamming businesses. So this post isn't about that.

Luckily it's his wisdom tooth which he wants out anyway, but his root is exposed. He's oil pulling and swishing with hydrogen peroxide so I assume his root is going to slowly become desensitized. I just hope that he'll be able to keep it from decaying. He has military insurance from the VA but they don't do dental.

    My questions are as follows:

    1. Has anyone had this happen and you weren't able to get to a dentist for awhile? How did you manage?
    2. Any product recommendations to help seal the root for a little while?
    3. Is there a way to get a tooth extraction covered under medical insurance rather than dental insurance?
    4. How much did it cost (if you paid cash for an extraction) to extract your tooth/teeth? I think he and I are expecting to pay somewhere around $600 for one tooth extraction but I have to call around and see.

Clove oil. Its what the dentist actually uses for exposed nerves post wisdom teeth removal

Depending on your area, it may not cost that much. I chipped mine and held off getting it done ( out of procrastination and fear of costs ). When it started hurting last month, I HAD to do it . It turned out to only be $209. The pain pills were only $10. This is all out of pocket without insurance. They didn't put me to sleep for it, so you do feel pain when they put the shots in - not pleasant.
You might want to call on oral surgeon and ask for an estimate / get it over with.

He might want to look into the carecredit card. At the oral surgry place, they got me approved for it . It's no interest for 12 months . I'm just glad I have the credit available too just in case.

I'd check around to see if you have a dental university nearby. We have one down where I live and a friend was able to get all 4 of his wisdom teeth extracted for about $200.

I had one pulled for about $250 without dental insurance and tons of gas.

I second the CareCredit card. It's really awesome for things like this. You can also use it for things like vet visits if you have pets.

If it gets infected, medical insurance may cover it, since it could affect a ton of other things. Of course waiting for it to get infected is a terrible idea.
