Lawd have mercy. That's probably YEARS of chemical treatments and improper removal. Yikes. I JUST got my first one and even though I spent 500$ on the wig alone Im going to pay 30$ to get it professionally applied. And that includes one removal. Then I can see in person. I know there are tons of tutorials on YouTube but I do better when I can ask specific questions as I go. After dropping that much dough I'll be damned if Im gonna ruin the piece OR my hair.

I hear that! I found out where Tyra and Beyonce get theirs--they start at $1500 an up to $3000!!! Ain't no way I'd experiment with that either! LOL! No one in town sells them much less applies them. I'm thinking of going to Atlanta in a few months and really look around for a place to buy and apply it.

That is why I finally gave up the braids. No matter how often you get them done the continual tension on that part of the hair thins it. I saw a lady at the bs one day who was like 50 with that going on. I said to myself: I do NOT wanna be the 50 lady who someone says, "wow, she must have worns a lot of weaves or braids when she was young cuz her hairline is fucked up". Then again maybe Naomi shaved it to have a full lace applied professionally. I know they say to shave the fine fuzz that sticks out, but that looks like a history of improper removal mixed with some "Fuck It, I'm Rich Bitch!"
Thank Goodness I smartened up! The old me is dead and gone.

I think you're talking about B and Tyra's supplier? You're welcome to the info. Her mom custom order's at Wilshire Wigs www.wilshirewigs.com . You have to do some digging to find some basic lf like hers. She gets her strand density overstuffed beyond 100% and it's silktop. Tyra gets hers custom from ESPY www.espyhair.com . Frickin' UBER expensive!
BTW, you notice you rarely see Tyra giving her wigs a break. It makes me wonder how she can go for months without ripping her hairline out. I saw her hair cornrowed flat but as long as she's been out of the industry she should have a mane! It only takes 2-3 years to grow it out. I was rockin' a Rhianna cut last year. Now I'm rocking a weave and have to wind my hair around for it to fit smoothly. Her hair should be very long by now. She could be using clip ins a`la Jessica Simpson and have nearly no hair issues. Kinda odd I think.

^^i think its cause she just started taking care of her hair underneath. If you see her hair was soo thin. Now she went natural and everything. Look at oprah. Her hair is nice thick and long cause she had a stylist for years taking care of all her hair

Check this thread out: http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/foru...-your-hairline

Also consider looking into glueless lace front wigs. http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/foru...lace-wigs-help

I've been wearing lace wigs for 6 months now so feel free to ask me stuff.

Yes! I just removed my full lace and my hairline is intact and beautiful. It took patience but the removal was quite easy. Im really very happy with my investment

Seriously though.... the wigs have saved my hair ( and my sanity ) till I could regrow my own hair... which took about forever and a day!
Taking some minimal precautions and doing your due diligence can have wonderful results.
Numero Uno... scalp protector. http://www.wigs.com/product_info.php?products_id=3813
Numero Dos... don't use krazy glue (seriously some chick did this!)
Numero 3... Use a glue or tape that is sensible. That means if you remove your wig every night, use a tape/glue that is meant for daily removal. If you wear your wig for a lengthy period of time (week+) use an equally appropriate glue/tape/glue+tape-combo.
4..................Don't even think about gluing or taping anything onto your hair. Yes, your hairline will look lower, but trust me, it only looks slightly odd to you, today only, and honestly no one else will be able to tell. A centimeter of (not even that much!) difference is not a big deal. I assure you. Do not glue or tape your wig onto your hair line!!! Cuz that will eventually result in a hairline waxing... which we don't want to begin with!
Lucky number 5... When you remove your wig use an adhesive solvent. That will help protect your skin and your hairline... plus, it can extend the life of your wig. Easy on, easy off.
Just for the record, I do not think that poor Naomi's hair issues stem from wigs... more likely from overly tight weaves. I had weaves put in monthly... and over time I started to develop bald spots(!!!) Which is why I went towards wigs in the first place. I -had- to save my hair.
So yeah, long story short: When done right, a wig can protect your hair and your hairline.
Anywho... for the record, a wig should NOT be super expensive. I know that a limit of $500 sounds crazy but I feel that it is fair for the peace of mind/consistency. Anything over the $500 dollar range is a little too much.
Unless you want to jump into the NON-US wig market headfirst, you may have to pay a bit more (aka around $300-$500) and try some American vendors.
I can recommend http://Pinklacewigs.com, and http://ultimatehaironline.com . <<<USA based. Non-USA vendors can be hit or miss, however they are less expensive. IDK if it is worth the gamble.
I have not purchased stuff from these folks yet, (USA vendors) but they are highly regarded:

I hope that helps a bit.
Have fun!

its the glue, now imagine wearing a lace front almost DAILY!
most girls will cut their hair like a boy to wear a lace....
whats wrong with a great sew in though?
Traction alopecia. That's what happens when someone has constant tension from braids/weaves. Balding of that magnitude doesn't happen with lace fronts because the glue isn't applied that far back. People are just quick to condemn lace fronts because they're the hot mess du jour. Years of improper weaves caused that, most def. Braiding and pulling on the same area constantly will damage the hair follicles to where they stop functioning. My husband is a weird example of this. Years of cowboy/combat boots rubbing have made it so that he's bald on below mid calf (and he's a hairy mofo so it's marked).
There's this board out there, blackhairmedia. Hundreds of threads on everything you could ever wish to know about weaves, wigs, your own hair, and other beauty regimens. They will definitely keep you from looking like Naomi.

I have a sew in now but I hate that I can't switch it up on a moment's notice. It's in a simple straight style with bangs but I can't pull it into a ponytail. Also, customers love touching it because they really want to believe I'm the one in a million black chick growing real blonde hair!![]()
Some odd fetish I guess. Also I'm about to start working out for a month to burn the winter flub and I don't want to tighten my tracks over and over.
Thanks for the heads up on wigs.com, Sophia! Good stuff! I didn't want to spend more than $150-$200 and they have plenty under that.
Thanks to everyone for chiming in so far! My follicles thank you!![]()

I been wearing full lace wigs for 5 years and thats what cud happen to ur hair. It is cuz of the harsh things u use to hold the wig down (adhesive). I too, use to shave my edges off cuz the adhesive adheres better to ur actually skin. I wud have to wait a while for my edges to grow back (I looked like a cancer patient). I even tried to snatch the wig off when I ran out of the remover (OMGGGGG!!!!!, what a mistake). Then if u got that adhesive that holds long it pulls when u have ur scarf on and sleeping at night. IDK, over the years I see that my hairline is farther back cuz I wear braids underneath the wig. Any questions or if u need any tips feel free to ask me.... O yea and I second that comment thats above mine. I cut off my hair shorter than Amber Rose just to wear my damn wigs (I wanted them to lay flat on my head). It took me a year to grow it. My hair is to the middle of my back now cuz of always having it braided, I just dont like to deal with the texture.

Lol @you trying to snatch your wig off! Jeezuz! I haven't tried a full lace front yet,but I have been extensively researching. So far I like sassysecrets.com the best. Also egoextensions.com and mylittlesecretsonline.com
I am so tired of sew-ins and the lack of versatility, also the men love to touch because my hair is very passable, and I am told I have a carribean look and most carribean women have naturally long hair. Thanx for the websites ladies!
I'M A HUSTLA HOMIE!!!
@ MOP, yeah girl the wig was hanging off my damn head n sum places and still glued to the rest. I took that junk off (I screamed my head off while doing it) and I end up looking like Matilda father when his hat came undun lmao.
Well the human hair lace wigs do feel natural if ur lace is thin enuff. The hair that they sell at beauty supply stores is a damn joke!!! That lace seems more plasticized than the actual lace that you get from ur online dealers. Plus their measurements be off, they try to make em one size fits all. I love these wigs, I just bought another one last night, waiting for it to come through the mail. The only problem I have with them is that I use Citrus spray to take off the adhesive and do the mirror slide to the wig and that can be quite time consuming. Also it makes the hair really greasy around the baby hairs. Plus u have to be very careful so that u dont fray the edges when u doin it. And sometimes the knots are not bleached enuff when u get em. I do extensive research on the vendor before I buy. I have been burned in the past and spent hundreds of dollars on a wig 4 years ago that wasn't even human hair (She said it was going to be). Human hair does not make a snapping noise if it breaks and there should be no red strands in it. Also it didnt take well to flat ironing or chemical products. All the rest of them seemed to be ok. I can honestly say only one of the ones that I had was truly worth the money and that one was the cheapest one ($250)
Times are hard...Make the most of it.

@ Aierka, yeah before I fully researched I went to a beauty supply shop and the wigs were TERRIBLE. They looked like complete crap. No wonder they were 50$. Im really happy with the one I have now. Although it is time consuming to remove and I need to order some better tape.
If you're going to do synthetic, I'd suggest anything by Ozone or Friday Night Hair. Ozone has decent SOFT lace and their hairline is excellent. Those run about 80 - 100 bucks. FNH wigs use hard lace (good for glueless/tapeless wear) I believe, but their hairlines are ALSO very very good. I think they run 60 and up. Anything else synthetic generally isn't worth it I've noticed unless you're just doing something for fun. I definitely wouldn't waste time bonding them down though. There are some chicks on youtube that can make things like Freetress look smashing...but I think it's better to come out of pocket with extra for that little bit of oomph you want.
And yeah, generally speaking all the undetectable QUALITY lace wigs are gonna run you 250 plus (stock. we won't even get into custom)...worth it though! When I think about the one (and only) weave I got, that ran about 250 and was so-so. Not much versatility. So a full lace wig that I can style up, down, curled, straight, etc and if I take extremely good care of it, can be used for 1 year plus? It's a worthwhile investment.
They DO take work though. Human hair needs human hair care so washing, conditioning, brushing (also post "production care" like knot sealing to prevent shedding because some vendors really suck at this) properly and application as well as removal takes time (and time take patience). Again, well worth it!
Maybe you should apply it 1/2" behind your hairline. That way you won't have to worry about your hairline being damaged or looking suspect.

Ehhh... it seems like that would damage the hair 1/2" and further back.
The idea is that you tape/glue the wig in front of the hair line so that none of your real hair is messed up.
The goal is not to apply glue or tape to your hair at all.... at least that's the gaol for me!

What tape would you ladies reccommend? I prefer tape to glue but the one I have sucks
