    Dizzy Member Site

February has started off slow for me, so I'm kicking my behind-the-scenes work into high gear... I've been thinking about setting up a new website for myself and a few of my friends, with a "Members Only" section... but how the heck do you make that?? I've got the rest of my site all set up (using WordPress, because I'm used to that) but I'm not sure how to make the separate section for people who have to have an account and Log In to get there.

If I absolutely can't figure it out I guess I'll just "password" those pages and give the password to paying custies, but that sounds so lame.

I checked out a few other girls' sites, and they all use zombaio or ccbill to get members to buy their subscriptions, but I think I can set that up on alertpay so I'll probably do that since I have an account there. (has anyone done this with alertpay?)

If you don't have nudes the alertpay may not make you set up the 2257 info so that could be a good option.

I couldn't get them to approve my site without jumping through a lot of hoops, so I have to send invoices directly to guys emails to get paid through them.

It seems like a super long and confusing process to get your website approved anyways. "Please provide a copy of your terms of service", "What measures do you take to prevent fraud". Um, what?!

I can make a "subscribe now" button though, so I guess I'll just go with that and tell the guys to make an alertpay account. Or, like you said, send invoices.

You can make them, but as far as I know they will not function until they approve your site.

I think most girls use buddypress for wordpress. And you'll have to jump through hoops and get your site approved for a nice streamlined process.. but it will probably be worth it.

For you, extremely so because you can be nonnude, and eventually have your naked debut which will make everyone join join join

Hehe, that's the plan bun, I'm going to work it as long as possible.

    Thank you!! I'll try buddypress.

use zombaio billing to start. they will help you with password protection and all that. my old memebership site was wordpress, sometimes buddypress.

Im just wondering what you are offering as non nude model as far as memberships? Live shows? Videos?

I ask because membership sites are close to played out... and being non nude makes it worse.

What is your objective for the site? You dont have to answer that either... just a thought.

Exclusive content is the main idea (pictures and videos) as well as live shows if I can figure out how to do that on the site. It's me and a couple other girls who will be the models on the site so we're hoping for some fan-sharing. I'm non-nude, but one of them does topless, and the other does nude, so I'm hoping we can get a bigger crowd because of that.
Objective is... have my *own* platform for selling content that I can *completely* customize at any point, and not have to pay fees lol... also have a place to go when MFC crashes haha... and share fans with my girls. That's about it so far. other than generating that little extra bit of cash.

THIS. Having a whole membership area setup via ccbill type arrangement is becoming hard to make financially viable. I think many find that it is a better payoff to have small areas of private/sales (packages of pics or vids) rather than full membership areas to upkeep.

I could set up a whole members area again for my site, but the payoff is not there. A more effective way (for me anyways!) is just to give the people that do spend on me, many many outlets to put their money into.
There are so many ways of buying small clips and content separately that it makes more sense than limiting myself via their memberships. And also, customers see this too and prefer it to being wary of recurring charges.
Also, maintaining a member's area can be quite the time-draining task if you're doing it yourself.

I have gone from nonmembers area, to members area, to non again, and now I am re-tooling the site to remain non members area, but optimizing the areas for sales.

This of course may be different to you! It does depend on your fanbase and your ability to drive large amounts of traffic to your site (this is NECESSARY for a members area IMO), but as camwhore said, it's rare that many girls decide on that as a way to go now. 5-10 yrs ago all the $$ was in membership areas but to say it's tailed off is an understatement. There's just so many more options now though, so I don't think it's all a bad thing... options that often are better for the model!

Yes, yes and yes! I have found the same thing.

Selling indivdual clips is way more profitable, way less time consuming than maintaining a site, and easier! Guys hate recurring charges and I can't blame them - so do I.

One thing that customers do seem to like though is some form of interaction on a site such as a forum or chat board or something. I am planning a couple sites like this with individual clips and pics they can buy.

Meh, I recently tossed my member area because I was getting too many assholes who would join for one month, cancel immediately, download all my stuff then post it on download sites for free. One of those assholes even did a chargeback. PTV from now on ONLY. It won't stop assholes from posting my stuff, but IMO a member area is just an open invitation for cheapasses to download your stuff in bulk then pirate it.

Also it's much easier for people to hack a member area to get free access. I'd found my site on passwordbay 3 times.

    NO thanks.

Zombaio or CCbill is the way to go for billing though. You get an account and they help you set up the secure area and customers can join then get immediate access as soon as they pay. If you use alertpay without getting your site approved they WILL lock your account, plus you'd have to manually give each new subscriber access rather than have it done automatically upon payment. Alertpay is pointless for membership billing. It's really only good for taking payments for cam time and such.
