I got my Toshiba c650 for $350 at best buy I love this machine.

when I broadcast on rude.com live house I use mini dell netbooks, but I am going to see if the budget will allow to review more netbooks since they starting to make them with more power and features.

but hun 900$ can get you 2 really good computers for webcamming or 1 good one and money to spare.

Exactly. Go get a laptop, but pay no more than $500. Just make sure it has adequate (i.e. nonintegrated) graphics to run video. I might even advocate getting a manufacturer refurbished/certified machine, if you're looking for a really sweet deal.

Oh, and consider getting rid of Windows and running Linux! Much more better.

    ^^THIS!!!
If you're just looking for a good computer for camming... there is NO WAY you should be spending $900 bucks.
$350 is a good price range for a laptop for camming... a bit more if you're wanting a desktop (although laptops are king for camming, imo).

Touch screen, ect SOUNDS great... but unless you have a real use for it (you do some sort of web-based design or spend a LOT of time touching up pictures for a living)... you're just pissing away money.

$900 for a laptop or desktop are usually for gamers, and game developers do you really need it probably not. will it look cool having it yes

What you need to be a webcam model, and just an average high power computer user is the following

    The hardware requirements are simple:
    1. We support any Operating System thatcan successfully run the Flash browser plugin including Windows, Mac OSX andLinux.
    2. USB or Firewire Webcam
This is highly recommended! We suggest the Logitech line of Webcams. For more information click here.
    3. Video Camera
Any newer digital camcorders ( Sony, JVC, etc. ) with USB 2.0 or Firewire connections are highly recommended. Digital camcorders will provide the best video quality.
    4. Broadband Internet Connection
DSL, Cable modem, or better (You will need to show proof of your connection)

I am in class for web design, the only game I play is sims I am more concern of my lighting in my room then the type computer I am using.

when I use a webcam I my budget is $150 after taxes, even goes with video cameras $500 or less.

You say it yourself oyu don't know alot about computers then why go out an spend money on something you don't need. Yes it great to have fancy stuff but having more money in your pocket is a lot better.

Linux is not supported for being a webcam model, so what are you going to dow ith that if you get it.

MAc finally got on board to being supported on most sites.

i've had horrible experiences with dell and i'm so-so on gateway, but i LOVE hp - my most recent purchases have all been hp and hp's laptops are awesome i cam on my hp pavilion laptop, which i bought three years ago. after i move this summer i'm going to save up for an imac for camming, though - they're super expensive but the screens are gorgeous (plus i'm a gamer so it's good for that too) and they run mac and windows.

I've had quite a few laptops over the years, but my HP Pavilion & I have been together since '06. Right about now, she's ancient, yet she's doing it until I get another machine, most likely another HP (HP Pavilion dv-6 - wanting something smaller). My current one I bought refurb, costing me a little over a grand @ tigerdirect (before they went CompUSA offsite), but it's the media and it came loaded, plus it's widescreen. It was the shyt back then...With 80 gigs, 1 ram mem (I forget processing speed), ha...

Anyway, I agree w/what's been said. I've learned a bit from mystery shopping for lappies, so 4 gigs of ram is nice, perhaps at least 500 gigs of hd, and strong graphics card is very decent for camming. The gigs of ram helps w/running multiple tasks, like splitcam & such w/o crashing or lagging. Reading reviews on Amazon can be helpful, too.

I like Toshiba Sat very much, Compaq is HP, and I know only what others have said about Dell & Gateway, which wasn't enough to impress me to invest in one. I heard from tech guys (Staples, OfficeMax & CompUSA) that Acer is groovy (don't sleep on the quality b/c of the cheap price), they produce the hardware for many of the popular ones.

I'm still on Windows XP, but 7 looks very nice, considering it uses a lot less ram than XP & offers a lot of user friendly features they worked to implement in that latest Vista (folks keep going on about this taskbar). I used to work at Red Hat, so I became a fast lover of Linux, but this is a Window/Mac world for the most part from my perspective. Otherwise, I would so be on Linux.

Btw minnie, sims2 is the only game I've got going on mine too, w/pretty much all the expansion packs and downloads from all the shopping I did for them. Since camming, I haven't played much & I miss them. I guess w/all the stuff I've got running, it's just too much for my old lady to run it w/o the lagging. I want to get a machine to dedicate to them b/c I'm on that 3 too.

Consider a laptop instead of a desktop. I get bored as hell camming in the same spot all the time. Borrrrrrred! It is nice to be able to move the laptop to different areas. I especially like bringing it to the couch so I can lounge comfortably. Plus it's easier to move around this way when doing more specialized shows.

4g ram is essential for camming as a business. If you're just doing it occasionally or not seriously, you don't necessarily need that, but it will be frustrating and negatively affect your productivity when you are working. The ram gives you the capability to rum multiple programs at the same time without crashing or bogging down, which is really necessary in this business.

tessarubyxoxo: somehow i ended up on SW's homepage.... then i clicked on "forums." & i was in fucking narnia.
