After a horrible incident where a hairdresser "accidentally" chopped off a foot of my hair, I have been trying to grow it out for years. My hair grows incredibly slowly (about a quarter inch a month, if I'm lucky) so it was a long, tedious process full of deep conditioning treatments, vitamins, and careful brushing with a wide-tooth wooden comb.
My hair is still not as long as it was, but it's long to average people-it comes just at the top of my bra.
I'm really sick of the reactions people have to my hair.
Every time I wear I wear it down, everyone from coworkers to complete strangers come up to me and say "Your hair is so pretty, you should donate it", or my favorite, "It's really selfish of you to keep your hair to yourself. Little kids with cancer need it!"
1. Why is it okay to demand I donate my hair? If I walked up to someone and said, "hey, nice shoes, you should give themt o Goodwill" that would be obnoxious
2. Most of the "hair for wigs" charities are notoriously horrible. Locks of Love is one of the worst ranked charities according to the Better Business Bureau, and if the hair has been dyed, highlighted, or heat styled, it can't be made into a wig anyway.
And finally...
3. I WANT TO ENJOY MY HAIR MYSELF.
Do any other long haired girls have this problem? What is a polite but witty response?
