Default What kind of car do you drive?

I've been dancing for about 2 years now and currently can commute to work on public transportation and from work in a cab. I'm thinking about purchasing my first car. Many of my co workers drive pretty expensive vehicles. While I would be able to afford one I'm debating whether or not this would be a good investment. I could buy a nice car, or buy a reasonable one and save more money. What do you ladies drive?

I am reasonable and drive a 2005 red Ford Focus SE. It's easy to maintain and no issues. When I was actively dancing I drove a cheap used car (many kinds) because I didn't want to fall into the trap of buying an expensive car like so many do.

It truely depends where you live. If you live in a big city in downtown a car is uncalled for, if you live outside the busier area then getting a car can be option. Downtown here is super busy day and night, and parking can be a problem with higher parking costs, esp the amount of traffic you'd be dealing with daily traffic unlike when you can jump in a cab or the public transport which will cost less and save you money.

If you are considering a car, consider the cost of living. I drive an SUV (mercedes ml350) and it takes higher gas and service for its maintance. I've been wanting to get a regular honda or acura to save on gas and mainly the maintance and parts since that will take money of the pocket quickly. Whatever your budget is go ~25% lower of repairs and who knows what.

'96 Chevy Blazer...this is the first car I've NEVER had a problem with.
Even if it is rather old...still runs great.

    2004 mustang.
    I love her
But she is NOT a good snow car. My next purchase will be something more sensible as I live in PA and we do get a fair share of snow and rain.

even if u live and work in a city, driving should be cheaper than taking a cab home from work every night. it doesnt take long for cab fare to add up big time.

id recommend getting something that is fairly new and reasonable. if its your 1st car, does that mean you haven't driven before, or atleast havent driven on a regular basis in quite a while? in that case, then you shouldn't get something too nice or too big since it takes a while to get used to driving...esp around traffic infested city roads. id recommend something small and sensible and fuel efficient, like a honda civic, vw jetta, or ford focus. something that will get u from point a to point b but will also last u for a while and will retain its value pretty decently. preferably something around 5-10 yrs old, which are "old" enough that they've already depreciated in value, but "new" enough that they prolly wont need any major mechanical or structural repairs for quite some time.

I really couldn't give two shits about cars. I chose my 2008 Honda Civic Coupe because in 2008 it was the car that was 2nd best on gas. Prius was the first but I didn't like how sensitive the steering was.

    2010 Honda Civic. Hate it!

Of course my two prior vehicles were a 2003 BMW 528i and a 2007 BMW 535i, never took those to work though, always took my Cavalier or had the ex-hubby drive me.

Cars are a terrible investment. Buy the least expensive to own and operate you can find.

^^Agreed! It's why I'm now driving a Honda Civic that I lease. My guy ask me why not lease when I was looking around....and honestly, I'd never thought about it. I drive so many miles back and forth each day, by the time I graduate, I'll have so many miles on my car it will be worthless. If I buy, I'd be upside down and still owe half the cost of the car. If I lease and go over the milage 100k miles (which I don't expect to go over that much), I still am around what my monthly payment would be but won't owe anything more on the car (I already incorporated the charges for 100k extra miles in my "monthly payment" so that is set aside to pay the over milage charges at the end of the lease.

After I graduate, I plan on another lease, but with a Fusion or another Beemer. I miss being rich!

I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant that I hate. It was my first car. I hate it because my ex-boyfriend did a lot of damage to it that wasn't readily obvious...for instance, apparently one night when I was asleep, he fished my keys out of my purse and took my car for a joyride (keep in mind he did NOT have a license and his permit was suspended), picked his friends up, they all got drunk, and then he ran the curb at a McDonald's and hit one of those concrete trashcan-holder things on the sidewalk. It didn't cause any noticeable damage on the bumper other than cracking the license plate holder, but it did cause the hood to buckle just enough so that it won't lie flat, though it will latch closed. He also ripped open the panel underneath the glove compartment on the passenger side and was stuffing trash in there. In any case, he cause a ton of damage that I am still finding out about today, and I don't really feel like it's my car anymore. I hate spending money on it, even for stuff as basic as tire rotation and oil changes.

However, I plan on getting a new Toyota Corolla within a year. I sold Toyotas and I fucking LOVE that car. Excellent mileage and enough safety features that insurance is wicked cheap. Not to mention it's a wonderful ride.

I drive a '97 BMW 540i...and I adore it. However, it took me a LONG time to get to owning anything like a luxury car. When I was working - I bought and ran something halfway decent but 100% reliable...a Ford.

That would be my suggestion to you. Get a reasonably well kitted out ultra-ordinary reliable car like a Ford, or maybe a 3 Series BMW that's a few years old....or even a Volvo, they are SOO solid.

Take your time in getting the mega-expensive motor........

2005 Subaru WRX ... I've already driven it over 100,000 miles on everything from US interstates to horrible south of the border dirt roads, and it's been absolutely excellent in terms of reliability. Unstoppable in snow or mud, plus very good mileage and it's fast as hell too !

I also have a 1997 Dodge Ram 4WD pickup truck with over 100,000 miles on it for hauling stuff, as well as for my monthly cross-border shopping trips to WalMart ! Major gas hog, but I don't drive it that much. Very 'secure' too i.e. it's big enough and powerful enough to push any potential hijacker's car straight into the ditch !!!

Just a note to the OP. As soon as any US state motor vehicle agency registers a car title, the IRS is automatically informed of the transaction i.e. how much it cost, if a loan is involved how large of a down payment was made and how large the monthly payments are etc. IRS computers then automatically cross-check these amounts against the buyer's previously reported taxable income, and based on local zip code based cost of living plus any college related tuition expenses plus any other financial info that banks or other financial institutions automatically report to the IRS, makes a mathematical 'judgement' as to whether the car buyer can actually afford to be buying this car based only on reported income. If there is a huge discrepancy, i.e. paying $40k cash for a 'nice' car while only reporting $30k a year in official income to the IRS, it's virtually guaranteed that the IRS will investigate further. I personally know of two dancers in the NYC area that wound up in a lot of 'trouble' with the IRS very soon after they purchased 'nice' cars.

I drive a 2006 VW Golf FSI. I love it but I wish I had stuck with my much less expensive VW Polo instead of upgrading when I got a big raise back in 2006. I hardly ever drive it. If I ever have to buy a car again Ill prob go back down to the Polo. Ill be driving VWs for life though. I love them.

I have 2 cars-my daily drive is a 2006 Hyundai Tiburon. It's a nice enough car...I've had no troubles with it whatsoever, I got it cheap, it runs like a champ, and it's cute. Maintenence and repairs for it are dirt cheap too.

My other car is an old 3000GT...she's my baby, but just for shows and driving on nice days when I want to show her off

I drive a 2001 Civic. Previously I drove a 97 civic hatch which I adored, but y ex totaled it. I got a screaming deal on the 2001 (4k) on craigslist. I have had to put a lot of money into it, but this car is going to last me a long time.

Where I live, you have to have a car. I always think used civics are the way to go!

If you want a brand new car I guess I would suggest a Hyundai because it has the best warranty. But, when that car has like 120 miles, it will be on its death bed- but a Honda would be in its prime!

    I have a 99 Nissan Maxima...
At the time I'd gotten rid of my old car because I was paying $900 a month between insurance and car payment and I realized it was just ridiculous...
I went with the Maxima because I had no car and had about a week and a half left before I moved. So I bought what I could afford (with leather/sunroof/lots of interior space... which I REQUIRE in a vehical).

But I also have a 68 Mustang which will be my main car once it's reassembled.
(it's in pieces while I find time to finish body work on it.)

Cars are not investments so if you aren't a car person, just buy something cheap and reliable like a used Honda or Toyota.

That being said, I am a car person and drive a 2008 Porsche Boxster. I love it!

I have an 2009 Infinity g37s that I bought brand new. I spent a pretty penny on it as a 19 year old college student. I feel kind of baller driving it but I do regret spending so much money on it. I hardly ever spend money on myself so it was a splurge moment for me. I should have just went to the mall and splurged, lol. But oh well. Now it is completely paid off and I've got warranty on it so I try not to dwell on how much money I spent on it that I could have spent on other things.
