I used to work at a club where management would mix fake 1s with the change they gave customers. Maybe one out of every 20 $1 bills were fake.

Always check your money when someone hands it to you. Even when you're not at work, its good to check!

My club has black nights which I can tell just by looking at the cash whether its real or not, esp the feel too... I was always paranoid some guy would do that at a SC.

Get a small blacklight lighter. Use it to light customers cigs and when heading in dance room and getting paid use the side button to turn on light. You can always say something along lines of "it's so dark I have a little light so you can see which bills you are giving me." Most dudes don't complain and the 1 I had that did ended upgiving me a $102 tip trying to be cheap. He was gonna give $5 then decided on three instead since I didn't "trust him".

Also beware that pens don't always work because they are sometimes using real currency paper but washing the amt. ie: $5 to $20 or more is really popular. Be careful ladies. The secret service investigates fake money. If you get fake $ at work and take it somewhere and use it and that business realizes it before you leave they will call cops then them and will interview you on site. They may call your job as well to verify that you do work in a cash business where it is possible for you to have gotten it. Most businesses will get over $5-$10 maybe a $20 but a $50 or $100 and they are calling you in.

i got a fake 20 one night, the bouncer taught me to use my nails to feel the texture of the shirt the pres on the bill is wearing, it should be rough and scaly on every bill, if not it's a counterfeit. this is easy to do in a dark club, i do it a lot now

It happens, but you need to be extra aware. "Feeling" the money is the best you can do... It's hard to fake that authenticity. after working in the cash biz for years I've seen so much counterfeit $ but it is still hard!

Always check! i had a customer who had 2600 in fake money mixed with real money, he would have never been caught and i would have never been paid, you can never be too careful!

So a marker and checking the collar on the bill is the best way to know?

there are many easier more discreet ways to tell, heathette's tip about feeling the suit on the president to make sure is textured is something i always do, use light to check for the band in 50's and hundreds's, also the money should have little red and blue fibers woven in

If it glows in the backlight it's fake right ? I've noticed this and had managers tell me ohhh it's just an older version that's why....

Glowing in the blacklight doesn't mean its fake. I think it usually means it went through the laundry in someone's pocket or something. Some laundry detergents glow in blacklights (when I was a teenage stoner I used to paint designs on my bedroom walls in detergent and then trip out with my blacklight on, ha). But I see glowing bills all the time and I've never had a problem turning them in to the bank.

When they glow in the blacklight they have been exposed to some detergent or other substance. When using a black light to look at them you are able to see watermark, and the denominational strip. Holding small blacklight under the $ does the same thing for you that a cashier holding $ up to the light gets, a chance to see safety features like watermark, strip, fibers.

I check all of my $100's. Our bars all have special bill sized magnifying glasses with black lights in them.. but, I go and have them check it while I get a water so the customer can't really see what I'm doing.

I should check my $20's but.. I guess I'll take my chances
