I read along time ago ..and I have been trying to find it ever since... It was either a little of hydrogen peroxide... or the blue bleach powder into your shampoo.. to keep up the brightness in color? It was on a thread about beauty secrets

Blue or purple shampoo! It takes the brassiness out of your hair and makes it look lighter. The kind I used to use is Clairol Shimmer Lights. You can also buy the blue or purple color separate and add it to your shampoo, but I think it's just easier and cheaper to buy one premade. You should only use it every other time you shampoo (max), because the color can start to show up in your hair or make it look ashy.
Hydrogen peroxide (in your shampoo?) might make your color lighter, but it would probably do more harm than good. That stuff is pretty harsh on your hair.

awesome thanks! ... Ive been using the john freida highlights but will try the clairol...

Yes, use some purple or blue shampoo. It works miracles, people always think I changed my color! I either get Shimmer Lights from Sallys or Blue Malva from Aveda Salons. The blue malva is more potent and if you leave it on too long it can turn your lightest bits blue.
As a natural blonde who occasionally gets highlights, I can tell you: DO NOT use anything that is supposed to make your hair lighter, such as hydrogen peroxide or Sun-In, or those shampoos that claim to lighten blonde hair. These are extremely damaging to your hair, and will make it that ugly brassy bleached yellow color--plus your hair will be so fried it will start breaking off.
If you color your hair, have it done professionally, whether it's highlights or full color. NEVER use any color treatment over the counter. Oh, the horrors I've seen with other dancers trying to become blondes at home... If you're already blonde, go to a nice salon get some full-head highlights in a color similar to platinum. It'll give you that sun-kissed look without being obvious.
One way to keep your hair bright and shiny and to maintain color is to get a clear color shine from a salon. It's the step in the coloring process when they seal your hair and give it the luster--a clear shine will really make your existing color fresher and brighter, and your hair will be very shiny. It also protects your hair from normal damage. My salon charges around $70 for this process.
Maintain color with shampoos that are designed for color-treated hair--they'll usually specify. DO NOT use anything that has seaweed in it...I discovered this the hard way. They never tell you, but seaweed dulls color quick.
Keeping your hair moisturized is one of the best ways to maintain color. Use a deep conditioning mask about once a week, depending on your hair type. Don't load your hair with product--in addition to drying your hair out, it coats it so that color dulls.
Really try to avoid ANY hair products with sulfate in them. Sulfate is detergent--the same kind you wash clothes with. It results in a lot of lather, but it does the same thing to your hair that it does to your clothes when you wash them fifty times--they start to fade, fray, stretch, and become threadbare. There are actually a lot of shampoos that come sulfate-free: depending on how much you're willing to spend, some good options are:
Living Proof--sold at Sephora, great all-natural products and they target specific hair types, averages about $26 per product
Organix--sold at most pharmacies, Wal-Mart, Target, grocery stores, etc., made with organic ingredients, really phenomenal smell, averages about $7 per product
Wen--sold only online and through QVC. It's an unusual system in that there is no shampoo, just a cleansing conditioner...the amount you use depends on your hair length and thickness, and there's about a week's long "detoxing" process in which your hair will be really weird. However, after you use it faithfully, your hair will stay cleaner longer and be REALLY soft. Plus it helps with static and flyaways. Good for colored hair. Averages about $24 for the medium size.
If you use product, do try to get something targeted towards blondes, whether it's mousse, gel, hairspray, whatever. John Freida used to make a lot of purple-tinted sprays and mousses, and truly clear gels, targeted towards blondes.
