Default "where do you live" WHY do customers ask this?!?

I always find it incredibly irritating whenever a customer asks me "where do you live?"

I'm a stripper. You don't need to know about my personal life. I am NEVER going to meet you outside the club. I am NEVER going to tell you my real name. Why would you ask me where I live? Every customer that asks me that thinks they're trustworthy and get all pissed if you even imply that you don't trust them. if all SC customers were trustworthy, we wouldn't need bouncers and cameras in the club would we?

I was working in a club one time and a customer asked me where I lived so I lied and said some nearby town. He was like "oh I live there too!!! I live by such and such a place, where do YOU live?" I didn't know much about the town I named so I just said "oh I don't really feel comfortable telling you that" and he kept asking me "why?" over and over.

As if he didn't realize why I wouldn't want to give him my exact location. Super annoying.

Why the hell do customers want to know where I live? I'm sure sometimes they're just "making conversation" but we're in a STRIP CLUB. respect your dancer's goddamn privacy.

I think the case with most guys is that they really just are trying to make conversation and don't realize that it can come off as creepy to be basically asking for your address. Living in the same area is a common ground and can serve as a great jumping off point for conversation, but it's also important to keep your privacy. I've had customers make a big deal of wanting to know where I used to live (I moved to this city a couple of years ago from a Toronto, so they want to know like the intersection I lived at and what high school I went to) probably for the same reason, to be able to relate to something, but it makes me feel very awkward, so I keep it general. Downtown is a good answer for this sort of thing, because even if you DO live downtown, it tends to be a large area and they're unlikely to track you down from that.

Basically, when I ask it is merely to make conversation or in response to the lady asking me where I live. Responses range from anything like ''out of town'' to ''on the west side''. Does not matter whether it is true or if I even believe it. To push for details and more information is completely out of line. Once I was actually told the intersection where she lived. When I asked ''really?'' she verified it thru the bartendar who was her friend. Had to explain to her while I appreciated her honesty and trust, it was not a very smart thing to do.

My girls have been followed home 4 times between the 3 of them, 3 of those times while living with me. Boy were THOSE guys surprised when they pulled up, lol. Especially the 2nd time the same guys tried it & there was a cop waiting for them at our place.

A close friend of ours was followed home & called her hubby ahead who met them at the complex gate with an aluminum bat. New Mercedes, too - that was an expensive repair job... 2 headlights, a grill, a windshield, one side window, a tail light, & several dents on the hood & fenders before he could 3-point out of there as I heard it.

Given that thee events happened without the guys knowing where they lived, WHY THE FUCK would a girl TELL A CUSTOMER even an approximate location?!

Seriously - making conversation is one thing, but really - respect the fact that she doesn't know you, dude.

Hope this was not directed personally at me. I never ask for specifics and usually if I do ask, it is something general such as ''in town?'' or ''from out of town?'. Could not really care if told truth or not or if they even answer. Specifically told the one dancer not smart to be as specific with others as she was with me. Figured she had comfort level with me as I am a regular for years and years but still not smart.

I get this as a camgirl too. If they ask me anything beyond my city, I sometimes answer by cocking my head to the side, smiling coyly, and asking them, "What's your credit card number?"

They usually figure out they've asked a way too personal question, apologize sheepishly, and the conversation moves on. ;-)

i always tell people i live like 5 hours away. it's pretty much true. my friends tell them i live even further. on a similar vein i see people on facebook post "from" the locations they are at thru-out town. i would never do that. people are so real-time with the updates, on their smart phones, they can get am message you are __________ location doing ____________ and be there. not cool.

Do what i do.. "I'm sorry sweetie but personal questions are five each." They don't pay they don't get to know and tell them you only have a work number and its for high paying customers. If you can't give numbers then a email addy make only for work.

Here's a good story on this topic. I first visited a SC regularly maybe 8 yrs ago. It was located 75 miles from RI and was home to an adult star who had gotten my attention. In any event, one day I got to talking to a couple of dancers and we had the following conversation (for no reason other than to make some small talk):

me: "where are you girls from?"

    therm: "RI" (I'm from RI)

    me: "whereabouts?"

them; "Cranston now, but we used to live in North Providence" (I live in NP)

    me: "where in NP?"

them : "off Smith St" (I live off Smith St)

me : "what part of Smith?"

them : "near the Prov/No Prov line ( I live near the line)

    me : "whereabouts?"

    them : "on XXXX Ave"

    me: "really, what number?"

    them : "56"

me : "you lived upstairs from Joe? Remember the two little Bichons across the street? Those dogs are mine."

    them : "OMG!"

I live at #55. They lived across the street from me for several months. No word of a lie. Sometimes its a small world. I remembered a couple of tenants across the street but never actually met them.

Just politely throw out a generic lie about where you live and keep the convo going till you sell your dance. It's not really a big deal.

The clubs here are mainly downtown and I live outside the downtown area, but still paranoid to tell people what part since its like my home area where I dont want anyone knowing.

So I tell customers, downtown. Its busy, its packed always, no way in chance they'll "see" me there. If they ask where, I tell them "5 mins from here" and they usually stop asking. Its none of there business.. and 5 mins could be 100 units to pick from.

Its all conversation bullshit talk. Its best to lie when you do get come creep/

"North" is about all the information I'll give. Usually it's because they want to date me (EVERYONE WANTS TO TAKE ME OUT, WTF!) and I smile and tell them "I don't exist outside this club.". It usually takes them a while to figure that one out. Then I go from "girlfriend material" to "stripper material" and they're fine paying me to take my clothes off again.

    Awesome.

I agree... It's like being in a bar - you start with an ice-breaker and small talk hoping to find something in common to have a more interesting conversation. This is usually harmless stuff. I can understand the concern if somebody is asking what street you live on, but if they just ask what city - I don't get what the big deal is. Dancers ask me where I live all the time.

Dancers ask me - where I'm from, what I do for a living, where do I work, if I'm married or have a GF, etc. These are personal questions, but,... its just small talk. The dancer is just trying to a start a friendly conversation, so that I'll get the urge to buy dances. I may ask her questions like - How's your day going? How long have you been dancing? Do you like this club? Where are you from, originally?... Etc.

Why do dancers ask me where I live?

I always assumed it was just conversation... Now personally I don't care where they live, so I don't ask, but I can see situations where people would ask it conversationally. But my opinions on appropriate strip club conversations are a totally different thread.

^I do that. I lie and I move on for the most part and everything's dandy, but every once in a while I'll mention a nearby town and I'll get a guy who's like "whereabouts?" and it just irritates me! even if it IS "just making conversation" what makes them think it's ok to ask a question like that? I would just think that it's common sense not to ask a dancer a personal question. it's common knowledge that the name she gives you is fake. wouldn't you realize that the reason she's giving you a fake name is for her privacy? I get a LOT of personal questions and I have a high tolerance for dealing with annoying customers, but the ones that make me uncomfortable are the ones who seem TOO interested in where I live and I'm sure that as a dancer you know what I'm talking about.

I find that the best customers are the ones who just say "are you from around here?" and when I say "no" they leave it at that. they respect my decision to be vague because not being from "around here" means I could live ANYWHERE and it's at my discretion to be more or less specific.

I don't ask that! I'm sure customers aren't the slightest bit worried about a dancer following them home, but I try to stay away from anything too personal. it sends the wrong message. if I wanted to get to know a bunch of strangers personally I'd go hang out at a regular bar.

I always think its funny when customers ask you where you are from then you ask them and they get all vague? Then you ask them so what kind of work do you do and then get uncomfortable. I explained this to a guy the other day who was just wouldn't stop. I said you know where I work and what I do, but you want to keep your personal stuff personal huh? Think I might show up at your job or something? Well, you just showed up at mine. Pointing out the reverse usually breaks a guy from that type of behavior. Most of them are harmless and just bad at conversation. Still there are the crazies, so beware.

when people ask personal questions like that i usually make a joke out of it. if guys ask where i'm from, i usually reply "stripperville!" in a happy-ish sarcastic-ish voice and make a joke out of it. a lot of times people ask where i go to school (because in conversation i will say im in college) and i say "stripper university!" usually for both responses they laugh and don't say anything else. they realize it was kind of out of line to ask those questions but i don't yell at them and call them a creep about it. they appreciate me letting it slide and i usually end up with some dances from it.

I tell them where I work - Houston - a city with over 4 million people (greater Houston metroplex). I also tell them where I live - a mid-sized suburb North of Houston. I don't see what the big deal is, unless they ask me for my street address.

I don't like revealing my profession, only because I don't want the dancer thinking I'm going to spend an extravagant sum of money. I'm not cheap, but I'm not excessive, either.

One time a dancer (stage name: "Thia") asked me where I lived and I told her. It turned out she lived in the same community. She told me what supermarket she shops at and said it was not uncommon for her to run into custies in that grocery store (but often, they were with their wives, so they didn't say anything to her).

She also told me she was selling her house and the price at which she was listing it. I was amazed at how much info she was providing, specially considering this was only the first time we met. Surrendering to my overwhelming curiosity, I later looked for her house on the MLS listings and found it. - Her real name was Cynthia ______ and I had her complete home address... Lucky for her, I'm not a psycho. ... And no, I did not go to that supermarket hoping to run into her, there's another one closer to my house.

I HATE it when dancers do that kind of shit. it makes guys think that all of us want to share our entire personal lives.

like the girls who go around the club saying "this is my stage name but my real name is this" and guys wonder why I refuse to give out MY real name when THAT girl did it.

there's another girl at one of the clubs I used to work at who would regularly just hang out with customers OTC with no pay or anything. they'd pick her up at her house and take her wherever. she didn't fuck them or anything she just hung out with them and then whenever those guys came back to the club they'd be like "well so and so hangs out with me I know where SHE lives" and then you seem like the stuck up bitch for wanting privacy

This. It is just "get to know you" chat material. I probably wouldn't get too worked up over it unless they start trying to drill down to your specific street address.

Around here customers ask because where you live here is a status thing. For the most part they want to know what your background is because they come from some tosser suburb where they inherited their wealth from their daddy. I lived in a shitty suburb when I first moved here cause I didnt know it was shitty and customers would actually avoid me when they heard where I lived. Now I usually lie just for safety reasons cause the suburb I live in is really small. But I generally say a pretty affluent one that I used to live in so I know it well and this seems to make them happy. I dont get it...

This conversation Sat with lady who said she has been dancing for close to 3 years:
    Her: Live around here?
Me: Yes, west side of town by the highway.
Her: Oh, sounds like we might live close to each other. I live in the house at the corner of Main and Grand by the airport.

First time I had ever talked to her. Never asked her where....she just gave it up. After about 5 minutes of trying to explain to her this was not a good conversation to have, I gave up. Her point was that she has never had a problem??? Wow!
