Default How do I tan my face?

I prefer working with a tan, but it bugs me that my face and body don't match. I do a UV session usually once, sometimes twice a week, and maybe twice a week use L'Oreal's Sublime Bronze gel a couple of hours before my shift starts (I like the subtle shimmer on top of my tan). Should I try a self-tanner made specifically for faces after or instead of my normal face cream? Can someone recommend one? Or should I try using a face powder a shade darker than my face? I'm kind of afraid of foundation because I don't like the obviously makeupy look it tends to give people. But maybe a high-quality foundation in a tan shade would help me?

Self tanner for face. Or a bronzing powder dusted over foundation.

I am a huge fan of Clarins self tanner. I recently tried Beta Glow pads by MD skincare. There pricey but I use the alpha/beta peel pads and find they work as well as chemical peels at the dermatologist.

You don't. It will make you look older, noticeably older after doing it for even a few months. Find a nice bronzer or use a makeup on your face that matches your tan.
Thank Goodness I smartened up! The old me is dead and gone.

If you have normal to dry skin, you can moisturize your face well, then immediately apply a small amount of foundation in a shade comes near matching your tan.

If done right, this will look more natural than most face powders and bronzer. Remember to blend into the jawline and in your case, possibly your neck.

i tan a few times a month to get a base tan going, i do not tan my face though...i also use loreal sublime for body (like one coat a week) and i highly suggest Clarins Body MILK self tanner for the face-it is so creamy and doesnt break u out if you have acne prone skin. exfoliate before you use it. its pricey but worth it--totally.

A few years ago someone told me to tan in a booth 2-3 times a week (i did only twice) and then go out into the sun and tan for 15 mins or so. That helped me. But she also said to put some darking tan oil with spf 5 on my face only in the booth and outside.

This was some lady at some spa who I knew, it did help me, but after tanning so much I got more mole/spots on my body that I stopped. Reason for tanning in the booth was so your skin wouldnt burn and just to prep it for outside and that its more direct onto the face. I used spf30 all over my body and darking oil with spf 5

Thanks for the replies. I did read the Jab-A-Tan thread, and thought it was interesting but a bit too drastic-seeming. And I know the idea of it would freak out my needle-shy, proudly Irish husband.

Anyway, the face/body mismatch that was bothering me all winter pretty much resolved itself now that it's April and sunny and warm again. Just running my normal errands on my bike, walking my dogs to the park, reading in the backyard, etc. seem to be providing my face with enough sun to match my body again. I'll just have to remember this thread when next winter rolls around.
