Just out of curiosity - what kind of car, and how long ago was this? ???

What kind of car = maybe theres some reason it doesn't like Shell.

How long ago = was this before they had the new formula.

Also - might be that that station has a bad tank - if the tank is allowing ground water to seep into the gas...

There was one here that I had a similar issue with - not like as bad as you describe but I could definitely tell when I filled up there vs other Shell's in the area. I even mentioned it to a manager there once. I doubt my complaint instigated it, but 6 months later they were tearing the tanks up replacing them at huge expense (it involved a lawsuit with the property owner as they lease the place) - turns out two of them were cracked and seeping water. Took them 3 months to finish the job, but now their gas is as good as the others!

Just sayin' - maybe try another Shell & see what happens, lol.

Mmm...did I mention goat cheese? I LOVE a soft goat cheese that has herbs in it...like Montchevre.

Finally getting a real tune-up on my car, fixing all the problems I was to cheap to address before. Seriously, I just spent like $1200 on my car. New brake pads, rotors, calipers, rear drums and shoes, fixed the plastic shield that was loose under my car and had been making this tik-tik-tik sound for months, synthetic oil change, tire rotation. And in another couple of months, once it reaches 100k, I'll have another serious tune-up. Unfortunately, this means I'll be keeping the car longer than I would like to. Guess the new Corolla will have to wait a few more years...

^ Oh god, I can totally relate. I need to get stuff done on my car (basic things like changing my oil, etc.), but it's the one thing I always find excuses to put off. But whenever I get my car tuned up, it always makes me feel good!

    1. Turning down extra work opportunities because I just don't feel like doing it.
    2. Buying or smoking my cigars
    3. Getting my nieces and nephews gifts
    4. When I buy the bourbon/honey marinated salmon instead of just making my marinade.

    Shopping at Whole Foods.

Which transports me back to being a child. I can remember when grocery stores sold ingredients.

Anyway I went for some Jam and jellies to fix up a care package for my Dad. Cheer him up as he is old and bed ridden.

You're supposed to have a BF or guy friend to do that stuff, lol.

    Nobody else touches my cars.

    Great thread!

    For me:

-living on the water with a balcony that directly overlooks the bay, where I see dolphins and manatees at any given moment in my backyard
    -always having beautifully manicured nails
    -shopping at wholefoods
-fresh cut flowers (I spend like 5-7 bucks a week on fresh daisies or tulips for my dining room table)
-opening a nice bottle of wine
    -gourmet coffee
    -high thread count sheets
-treating myself to a martini at an upscale bar
-buying nice hair and skincare products

Having the ability to take a random Tuesday off work because I just don't want to.

Buying a bottle of lemon Perrier and sharing it with a friend on said random Tuesday, in the backyard and sun, bbqing organic hormone-free meat, wearing soft-rubber flipflops, enjoying fresh fruit.

Most of all a really good laugh with the people I love.

taking my cousin's daughter out BIG shopping sprees. she's 13 and I SPOIL her. my cousin is a waitress and her piece of shit ex husband doesn't help her any more than he's court ordered to so I love to take her daughter out to the designer outlet mall and buy her little coach accessories. they have INSANE sales there and last time I bought her a pair of sneakers, a wristlet, and a watch (all from coach) and it only cost me 200 bucks, but the smile on her face was priceless. she sent me a thank you note a few weeks later saying how now she's the envy of all her friends.

also, footing the bill for my friends. my best friend works at mcdonalds and is always short on cash. we like to go on mini road trips to boston to go shopping at the prudential center or to go to concerts and I always drive to save her money on gas and she's always like "do you want gas money???" and I'm like "no dude you're good! I just want to have a good time with you"

I'm kind of a tightwad when it comes to spending money on myself so I love to look at things I COULD have for when I do decide to splurge on something. either online or going to the mall and being like "oh man I could totally afford the new iphone" "I could EASILY afford the payments on that '05 BMW" "I could live in that apartment!" "I could rock that LV bag" etc.

    also having a clean apartment

and a clean apartment that SMELLS nice

    multiple air fresheners

potpourri sachets in my underwear drawer :]

waiting a week to buy groceries when I run out and grabbing breakfast at starbucks, eating salads at panera bread for lunch, and ordering japanese or thai for dinner

    wearing my silk bathrobe

    deep conditioning my hair

having a TON of magazine subscriptions

getting any sort of mail that isn't junk mail

    being tan and thin

dressing up just to go out by myself

having over 1000 points on my sephora beauty insider card LOL

not being in debt like all of my friends and family

OMG dry cleaning! I had my duvet drycleaned last year and I still fantasize about it. I don't really have a need to dryclean most things but damn I felt on top of the world - I'm really excited to dryclean my winter coat this year.

+1 on the nice scents too, its such a pick-me-up.

Its so funny that the things that make us feel like we're living expensively are actually pretty simple.

it is pretty funny but I guess living expensively in our minds translates to living well. you could live expensively if you have drug habit, but it's not rewarding and the key word is what makes you FEEL like you're living expensively and by buying and doing things that are indulgent yet healthy for the mind and body we feel a deeper sense of satisfaction. :]

Fresh mint in my tea/punch/lemonade/water!!!! It makes everything smell fresh and summery. Even better, it grows in my garden so its free!

Also add fresh basil, tomatoes, cilantro, peppers, etc. Anything home grown feels gourmet and fancy.

To me it seems that we enjoy these things more because most of them are in a way extra. Because if your budget is really tight, you can't really afford a lot of these small things that make us feel like we're living well. Having a lunch with friends only makes me feel good if I don't have to think afterward how I spent money I really needed for something else. And so on...

^that's a really good point I didn't even think about that. it's been so long since I've had a minimum wage job that I barely even remember what it was like hahaha. but thinking back yeah, when I was working at starbucks I would never spend my money on tanning or candles or organic groceries. I would RARELY go out with my friends, I would rarely go for joy rides, I would rarely take days off just because I didn't want to go to work. back when every single dollar I had mattered I couldn't frivolously spend on ANYTHING. each purchase was well thought out. that's why I love the financial freedom I have from dancing. I can spend AND save. in fact, I'm spending more than I was making every week at starbucks, and saving ten times as much as I was saving back then.
