    Default How many calories?

*part rant/rambling* Ok so I am 5'4 have been stuck at 143lbs for 6 months. When I first started dancing i dropped 5lbs super fast and got to 138, then it went back up to 143, and has pretty much stayed there till this past month where I have suddenly gained 5 pounds. I have been calorie counting every single day for over a year so I literally have all the data of how many calories ive been eating vs how its been affecting my weight. It seems like if I eat 1200 calories, I lose weight, if I eat between 1300-1600, i stay the same, and if i eat any more than that I gain weight. But the thing is, I dance 4 nights a week, I go on stage on average about 12 times in an 8 hour shift and I make sure I pole dance alot every single time I go on stage (intermediate-advanced) So i MUST be burning a ton of calories. It just seems like 1200 calories is just so little compared to everything im burning. Ive read that 1200 is the absolute minimum anyone should be eating. Ive read about BMR and mine is about 1400 and I shouldnt eat below that to lose weight but if i eat 1400 I dont lose any weight at all. Ive heard that my body is just 'used' to all the exercise im getting so im supposed to go to the gym and burn even more calories while still eating a puny 1200? im just at a loss. I know I need to eat 1200 but it just seems like so little and unhealthy. How many calories does everyone else eat to lose or maintain weight?

You probably need to change the type of calories you are eating. Lean protein and veggies/fruit. Whole foods and maybe cut dairy out for a while.

REV up the cardio in your workouts. (sometimes club dancing isn't enough because you cant control the intensity) and do free weights to tone.

Don't judge your body by weight. Judge it by tone and body fat. Anyone can starve and loose weight but you will end up skinny fat and its hard to dig yourself out.

I think some people just have a very slow metabolism. When I danced, I also ran 6 miles 6 days a week and did another 45 min or so on the stepper and 45 min or so of weights. I still couldn't eat more than about 1500-1600 on weekends and about 800-1200 during the week without gaining weight. Everyone on this board argued that I was eating too little, but even when I stuck it out for 6 months, eating more just made me gain weight, it never "reset" my metabolism like everyone claimed would happen. Finally I talked to a nutritionist who told me that my mother being bulimarexic when she was pregnant with me made my body stay in a constant state of starvation and there was not really any way to fix it. It's just the way my metabolism is programmed.

    ^^^That
Honestly... there are a ton of things that are supposed to speed up metabolism, ect... but I can't eat more than 1500 calories without gaining weight unless I'm working out 3 hours a day.
    It's ALWAYS been like that.

You need to learn about macronutrient ratios. Google it, and make it your friend. It's not just how many calories you eat per day, but more importantly where those calories are coming from in relation to your amount and type of physical output.

i'm not a nutritionist but i feel like they overestimate how many calories we all need... i have never met ANY woman who wouldn't gain weight eating 2000 calories or more a day... just sayin.

i think we need to change WHAT we eat, not how much we eat.

when i fill up a plate, i do AT LEAST 50% green veggies then the rest split in half of healthy carbs and lean protein. that way i am satisfied but staying within a calorie range that works for me (1600 calories a day). i saw a nutritionist and she said i need to eat 2200 a day and i laughed in her face.
