Disgusting how? To lengthen the life of your polish, I'd suggest using a rubberized base coat like the one Orly sells if you want to go back to that route.
I walk around barefoot practically everywhere so I don't have the prettiest or softest feet.Lots of soaks with epsom salts and lotions help.

I used to always use a light colored polish on my toes, they would end up chipping while i worked but it didn't show as bad as a darker polish.

Get gel polish on your nails. I've had mine on since Feb 4th with no chips. It costs a little more but is worth it IMO. It's grown out now so it's time for a new pedi but the polish itself has stayed intact.
When I go in to the nail salon for paint... the polish lasts significantly longer than if I paint them myself.
And yeah... pretty sure it's floor work. I've noticed when I work at clubs with softer stages my polish lasts longer than when I work places with very hard stages.
Seriously, though. Pedicures will become your new best friend. Dancers' feet can get seriously mangled.
