IUD. There are different ones, some with hormones and some without. I believe the ones without hormones can be left in for 10 years. They insert it into your uterus...the procedure is similar to a PAP smear. It's also very easy to remove them, and the instant they are removed you can get pregnant. They are supposed to be the most accurate form of birth control, because they make it physically impossible for the uterus to hold the uterine lining. I have heard that the ones without hormones make your period a little heavier and a little more crampy, and that you spot for awhile after getting it, but that probably depends on the person.

I've also heard that a lot of OB/GYN's are very resistant to letting just anyone get them...a few of my friends were told they needed to be married and/or have children with a monogamous partner in order to have one. My friends were under the impression that was for physical reasons. I asked my doctor, and she said that isn't true; it's just that the IUD is SO EFFECTIVE that some OB/GYN's are worried they will encourage unprotected sex with multiple partners in single, "promiscuous" women, since it's impossible to get pregnant, and then the risk of an STD is higher. So, I think you just have to have a chill doctor in order to get one.
