    Default Getting back to sleep

Im a light sleeper. Anything from my husband coughing to my daughter calling out on the middle of the night wakes me up. The annoying things is I could be in the most deep wonderful slumber but once Im awakened all i do is lay in bed wishin I could return to that deep sleep and it never happens. I might doze in and out but Im getting robbed of that deep sleep and I really need it. Any tips on breathing , ot any other techniques that could help me quiet my mind and get back to sleep would be appreciated

I said this in another post, but I sleep with a fan on. It helps me to have some white noise so I dont wake up at every little peep in the night.

Try a white noise generator (here's a free one for your laptop http://www.simplynoise.com/) and an eye mask.......Here's a site for some stuff that might help http://www.dreamessentials.com/

That sort of mid-cycle insomnia is very poorly understood and correspondingly difficult to treat. Ambien CR can be effective, but it's best to save it for those occasions where you absolutely need to get uninterrupted sleep. It's not a good idea to take it regularly on a long-term basis. Something that seems to work for some people is listening to audiobooks (with headphones, so you don't wake your husband). You can lie there with your eyes closed listening at a low volume, which keeps your mind from getting into thought patterns that would otherwise keep you awake. For some people, that gets them to relax enough to get back to sleep. And if it's an "improving" book, you won't feel that you're wasting the time that you spend lying there.

I like sleeping with a fan on as well. I usually go to bed around 4 am, and hubby gets up to go to work at 7, which totally wakes me back up. The only thing that usually works for me is smoking pot and reading for a bit.

That's the only thing that would work for me too! That or muscle relaxers when I messed my arm up. But ill smoke and then take a hot bath with stuff from bath and body works relaxation salts and oils and read till I got sleepy (like 30 min). *sigh* I'm turning into such a pot head just so I can sleep lol.

I sleep with my little fan on, too.

I've also started taking Lunesta because I've become such a light sleeper. It really helps. It doesn't knock you senseless like other sleep drugs do, but it helps you go to sleep and, once you're there, it helps you stay asleep.

Lunesta is like Ambien, though: OK for occasional or short-term use, but you don't want to be taking it regularly over the long-term.

    I second the earplugs suggestion.
