I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not, but someone mentioned it in another thread.
Instead of derailing threads with arguments and bitching about something or other, post it in this thread instead so we can keep all of the other threads on topic. So if an argument erupts and you simply CAN'T keep quiet about it, post it in here instead.
I have nothing against abortion or people who choose to get them, but I chose not to do so in my own situation, for personal reasons. That is my right to do so. No one in a free society should be forced to get or not to get an abortion, or be forcibly sterilized like you suggested.
So you're saying that unplanned children turn into criminals? That's very silly. Yes it's sad to see poor people with a bunch of kids, however you have to keep in mind thatyou know who also had their kid unplanned? practically every mother of every criminal out there. thats great that you turned out so "wonderful" not every unplanned kid is so lucky. it seriously makes my blood boil to see poor people lugging around an army of kids. i would see it all the time when i used to take public transport. Having children should be a privilege, not a right.
1) A lot of poor people are uneducated and may not have proper understanding of safe sex.
2) Birth control is expensive, and abortions are VERY expensive for a low-income person. A lot of people simply can't afford them.
3) Condoms, the other alternative, are not always foolproof.
For the record, I was living on my own when I was pregnant, and I actually wanted it to stay that way. It was my mom that called me up, convinced me to hop on a plane and move back in with her temporarily. Doing so allowed me to deal with the birth and the first few months with a lot more help than I would have had otherwise, and I was able to save money and generally not stress out so much. So no, I didn't "force" her to deal with my own mistake, she actually wanted to help me out because, you know, she's my mom and she loves me and wants the best for me. Insane, I know.and my god if i ever have a kid and she then has a kid out of wedlock and decides she "needs to" move in with me i would probably disown her. I'm very much of the belief that children should be cut off financially once they turn 18. when I'm 50 i shouldn't have to stress myself out and take on the burden of raising yet ANOTHER child who I DIDNT MAKE because my idiot kid decided she loved unprotected sex too much. I feel so bad for grandmothers that are basically forced to take care of their grand kids. they had no say in the manner, and its so incredibly selfish and disrespectful of the mother to just throw their responsibility out to their own mom who should be DONE with parenting.
While I agree with you that people should be able to support themselves at 18, I must say that parenting does NOT end at 18. You don't just stop being a mom or dad once your kid turns 18 and you shouldn't disown them for making mistakes because EVERYONE makes mistakes at some point.
You wouldn't know this since you don't have kids but daycare, especially for young infants, is EXTREMELY expensive and difficult for some people to manage, even married couples who make decent money. That is why one parent usually stays at home because the cost of daycare wouldn't make it "worth it" for them to even go to work.
Also, being poor does not necessarily mean that the child will have a horrible life and that they'd be better off aborted. Growing up, my family was very poor and I didn't get to enjoy a lot of privileges that other kids did. I didn't have as many toys or videogames or clothes as other kids, and I didn't get to join clubs and do activities that I wanted because my family couldn't afford it. Guess what? I had a GREAT childhood anyways, because my family actually loved each other and there is more to life than living in a big house or driving a new car instead of an old beater. My son is loved dearly by many, many people and he's well taken care of. Oh but yeah you're right, he should have been aborted I guess.
Okay everyone feel free to bitch all you want![]()
